I will never stop believing that Paul was the driving force and strongest talent in The Beatles for the subtle complexities in hidden gems such as this one.
John, Paul & George are brilliant accoustic guitar players - Examples - John ("Working Class hero"), Paul ("Blackbird"), George ("Here Comes the Sun) to name a few !!!
When Donovan taught John and George " Travis picking " in India, Paul didn't care about learning it. He continued playing with his thumb and other 4 fingers strumming the way he always did. He still plays that way today. " Blackbird" was a brilliant exception. Although he never has read music, his chord structures are complex and unique. Thank you for uploading this. Great job.
At last , finally, a video which does this song justice. McCartney’s unique style is very rarely replicated as it is here. Even he is on record saying, lots of people play blackbird but nobody plays it right. It’s the strumming pattern in particular which he is referring to.
I use to be in a Beatles Tribute Band and we would use your vocal harmony lessons all the time. You sir are a legend and I’m so happy to see you frequently uploading and still educating Musicians all over the world ✌️💚
Paul and John grew up in musical families. But their technique grew to a new level when they met George Martin. I believe that he taught them music theory and technique, moving their music up to a new level.
@whatdupdoh No, Paul has used that technique for years. It was even featured on Yesterday. It's his own version of Travis picking, and is deceptively difficult to do. The Donovan anecdote refers to John.
This is fantastic! I discovered The Beatles as a child, and fell instantly in love with their music and the band's members. It motivated me in buying my first guitar and learning to play. My goal was to learn "Blackbird" and "Mother Nature's Son", among others. I can do them fairly well, but this video takes it to a whole new level. In my view, McCartney is the greatest musical talent ever, and noticing all nuances and details as shown in this video takes a great ear and a lot of talent as well. Thanks for sharing your wonderful work.
AGREE !!! McCartney the Greatest !!!! but then Lennon too !!! Me too, I was hooked to them since I first heard "Love me Do" and the rest is history. My problem is that I always compare everyone else"s songs with the Beatles & obviously there's a big gap. I love listening to the "White Album". Thank you for your comments.
I've been working on Blackbird for months. Must have played it a thousand times by now, and every time I do, I'm struck by how he handles the complexity with such economy. Never more than two fingers on the fretboard at any one time, yet he produces a masterpiece of harmony and euphony. True genius.
I listened to this song today on my drive into work and have been humming it all morning. Your videos make me want to take up guitar for the first time in 29 years
Galeazzo, I am so appreciative of your videos. I am glad you are doing well during this time of a Pandemic. I wish you very good health through this whole shin-dig. I hope to hear much more from you. Keep yourself safe. You are a national treasure. The quality of your videos are getting better too by the way and we are all grateful for that. Fan for life!
Grazie infinite amico!
Nice to see we both play the middle 8 the exact same. I think the closest/accurate tutorial was from Shut Up And Play. He plays it very much like you do
Paul is in another league, naturally a complete genius. He deserves more credit, which is a funny prospect considering he's a f***king BEATLE! It's complicated, the massive fame overrides his amazing talent
It’s hard for musicians of today, to understand the incredible impact the Beatles had on music, thought and society. Their ability to absorb and reimagine what they were learning, as they were exposed to different styles of music, is unparalleled. The fact that they were technically brilliant musicians, singers and harmony singers and musical arrangers, as well as great songwriters, is what really set them apart. They also appealed to a broad spectrum of people. So glad I was there to experience it.
Thank you for the outstanding lesson. I had thought I really knew how to play this one, but you’ve helped me understand so much more about it. It really is a beautiful song.
can you talk about the guitar on Junk? i saw your harmony vid, but the guitar is what fascinates me! i would love to see your analysis on such a great song in every aspect
Absolutely magnificent. I've been learning Beatles for over two decades from various sources, books, sheet music, videos, this video is one of the most insightful, intelligent, thoughtful, accurate and artistic. Many many thanks for the care and the artistic teaching!
Yes absolutely that slide! This is the 3rd video ive watched on this song and i am not disappointed as i am familiar with your vocal harmony breakdown videos which my daughter and i love to watch because of your attention to small details. I know this is and old post but if you happen to see this thanks for your appreciation for those nuances Galeazzo!!
I really love your precision and attention to the details. I am like that too when it comes to playing the Beatles songs on guitar, can't have it not sound like the way it was structured
I am glad to find your channel. To learn and, at the same time, to appreciate the Beatles'songs it is a pleasure! Best regards from São Paulo Brasil.🇧🇷👏👏👏😘
Love it. A wondrous creation that'd be much better known, I suspect, had it not been eclipsed on the very same album by it's more melancholy sister, Blackbird.
Written in India, but this is the music of the Scottish highlands, ancient songs of Scotland / Northern England. The greys and greens of that sodden countryside ❤
In a sense Paul's technique here is a variation of the "Carter Scratch" where Maybelle Carter would play melody along with a strum on the treble strings. She invariably played the melody in the bass of course. I am not suggesting this was his inspiration - probably Donovan was the immediate influence.
I've always loved this tune since I first heard it at 12. However it's very simple diatonically. I like figuring out how to do it my way though. There's something very magical about this tune.
Thanks! I always struggled with the picking/strumming on this one. I can usually do the legatos. Anyways, always loved this song, that D drone is so hypnotic!
Let's not forget Donovan. During their trip to Indian, he was able to teach the Beatles about more guitar playing skills. Which lead to majority of the acoustic playing styles we can hear on the White Album.

The right channel guitar towards the end has always been one of my favorite parts
Finally a guitarist who puts the effort on details to play the song the way it is originally played by McCartney.
Paul is the CEO of making complexity out of simplicity
Exactly. His acoustic technique is outstandingly creative. Fundamentally simple yet employed to such an amazing effect.
Agreed!
Nice summary of Beatles' music. That's why I love it.
Scratch that and reverse it
Some call it "adding beauty"
i swear this channel has been holding up for soo long.. this is probably one of the best Beatles dedicated channels out there!
Probable? It sure
I will never stop believing that Paul was the driving force and strongest talent in The Beatles for the subtle complexities in hidden gems such as this one.

Don't really rate the guitar work on Working Class Hero. Dreary and unimaginative. He impressed with the lead on Get Back, though.
You've opened a whole new world of the Beatles. And I was there at the start. Thank you!
When Donovan taught John and George " Travis picking " in India, Paul didn't care about learning it. He continued playing with his thumb and other 4 fingers strumming the way he always did.
He still plays that way today.
" Blackbird" was a brilliant exception.

Thank you for uploading this. Great job.
The Beatles were brilliant at incorporating difficult playing , with beautiful melodies, clean vocals, putting it all together for divine songs.
You are an absolute treasure .. the joy you have given to countless thousands ...
Wow. The song is really complex. That’s why the Beatles is not “just pop music”.
When john mastered the clawhammered picking style, paul on the other side creates his prefered hybrid style of it. Such a genius man.
I always loved Mother Nature’s Son, and now I understand why.
Learned 95% of this from my dad, rest his soul, 25 years ago. Thanks for filling in the gaps and reminding me this is in my repertoire 👍

Paul uses that strumming on a lot of his songs, e.g. Yesterday and Black Bird. P.S. Paul is a genius!
he learned the strumming from donavan or so I've heard
@@whatdupdoh Nope. John did. That's the method you hear on Julia.

Galeazzo you are absolutely right it is a very complex tune . It sounds like two guitars are playing in this song. A beautiful under-rated song !!!
You’re the best Beatle’s song analyst I’ve learnt to play Michele the right way based on of your older videos. 👍
Paul McCartney and/or RIngo Starr should reach out to this guy if they haven't already. He deserves it more than anyone.

John Denver loved this song and covered it. I think the Beatles lost more great songs down the back of the lounge than most others ever wrote.
The famous Macca shuffle.
