This is an incredible tutorial/walkthrough. I'm following it along, had to Google some things for my specific system (nothing outside of what is to be expected, of course) and managed to get to the username entry of installing Kali Linux...
So first off: Thank you for making such a simple, easy walkthrough!
My request: Can you please advise on recommended partition sizing for the following laptop specs?
I'm replacing Windows 10 "entirely" on a Lenovo Thinkpad E540.
Hard Drive: 800 GB
RAM: 16GB
Objective: Eliminate Windows 10 entirely from the system and exclusively run Kali Linux.
I'm extremely new -- as in I had to Google how to get to the Bios UEFI (if I'm even addressing that correctly) and figure out how to navigate around the hurdles that "Legacy" imposed on me. I managed to figure this out and am actively installing Kali Linux now -- I'm on the Username textbox entry screen.
I'm overjoyed that I was able to figure out getting this far, but I'm absolutely clueless on how to most effectively and intelligently set the sizing of these partitions.
Really excited to get this installed, but don't want to sell myself short on the sizing limitations here when I want to maximize laptop performance and utilization of all that's available on this old machine.

Thanks for appreciation. You can make multi partitions but at least 100 GB must be for / partition. But I recommend first use Kali Linux in your virtual box or vmware so you can learn more about it. You can make snapshot over there so if you do anything wrong you can easily come back using snapshot.
@@techdhee Hey thanks so much -- I ended up deleting all of my other partitions since I'm getting rid of the Windows 10 OS... was this a bad idea? I have the 4 partitions as discussed in the video though... can you help me understand if this was a dumb move? I'm super close to getting this dialed in!!! :)
I had to watch the video a couple more times in the partitioning section to really grasp what it was you were discussing. You pointed out very specifically at one point which one was the / directory partition, so I just had to pay extra close attention in that portion at that time in the video. I was able to figure it out, so thank you for your guidance up above.
Hope you can help just once more here. I know I'm a newbie, but intend to put in a lot of time so I'm not anymore.
@@techdhee Hey there -- my Final Directory /home currently has 891.7GB free space. Should I re-allocate that by changing how much I give to each of the other 3 directories? Like ESP, Swap, or ext4? Or do I want all that space in /home? Thanks in advance :)

500 MB ESP
8 GB swap
100 GB ext4 /
891.7 GB ext4 /home
Any recommendations on how to adjust for best performance and desired outcome?

On your hotspot or any wifi .then it will show u the name .put in password .
why your instillation wasn't showed is it "Primary" or "Logical" partitions???

What is the /home directory actually used for? Also nothing is getting saved to that partition for me
/home stores your user's files and apps (not the shared ones). For example this is a tree of my user partition:
/--home/--vitek/+-Downloads/
|-Documnents/
|-Pictures/
|-Videos/
...

Everything was waaay too fast. Also you seemingly created a partition then deleted it then robot voice says to follow the steps. Very confusing.

Simple create bootable usb drive and install the windows 10 as dual boot. Soon you will get a video on my channel!!!

Yes, now they change bare matal to Installer Image. You can download tha ISO from there. It is new update in Kali website.

It's perhaps because your hard disk is under MBR and you already have 4 primary partitions.
MBR not allows you to have more than 4 primary partitions. Only 3 primary partition and 1 extended one.

Well if you don't have a second computer to flash another windows or linux distro iso onto a usb, you are pretty much screwed. The Kali Installer has already wiped your Windows installation. You will have to send it over to a PC Repair shop thing and they will install windows. If you don't want to... you can try again installing it from the bootable kali linux usb you got now. I know your comment is kinda old, but If you found this useful in some super unknown way, let me know.
@@itsnotAZ listen, my pc is safe after stucking in detect network hardware, i restart it after some time and it worked properly and started with my previous OS(windows 11)...but is there's any solution for the above problem, or any other way to install Kali Linux in my laptop....btw thanks for reply

@@MFAISAL-rj6wn I'm not quite sure otherwise. Kali Linux never had this problem for me, I would suggest looking into this. I have one last thing, does your computer support uefi, and if so are you booting your usb from uefi more or legacy?

You have to download the windows 10 or 11 make a bootable USB drive and install it back.
