  • ✝️ “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6 verses 19-24 New King James Version
It’s hard to believe, but just a few short years ago you could actually drive almost to the end of this abandoned road. From the large open meadow near the end of the road, it was a short scramble down to the river for some awesome views. We never made that journey while the road was still drivable even though we knew about it and had it on our “bucket list” of places to visit.
Now that the road has been abandoned, very few make the difficult trek to the river. Many thanks to the kind people who use their own time and resources to occasionally make repairs to the road so it is at least drivable for part of the journey (usually still requires high clearance and AWD or 4WD). This year, the hike was a mere 2.5 miles. In previous years, we’ve had to walk 6 miles on the road due to downed trees and washouts.
MORAL OF THE STORY: don't put off going to the places you want to visit because they could become inaccessible quickly. Reminds me of the Bible verse found in Isaiah 55 verse 6, NIV: ✝️ “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.” As it says in the Bible text above, seek your treasure now, don’t delay, begin that journey before it is too late.
This is not a journey everyone should take. Hike smart, know your limits (and your vehicle’s capability).
