    Fun Fact about Aluminum Foil: The difference in appearance between dull and shiny is due to the foil manufacturing process. In the final rolling step, two layers of foil are passed through the rolling mill at the same time. The side coming in contact with the mill's highly polished steel rollers becomes shiny.

    Maybe you could try to powder coat an old metal sauce pan or stew pot next.

    That surprises the hell out of me. Many years ago I used to work in a powder coating plant, and the amount of times I'd have to touch up aluminium sections because the packing department had knocked chips out of it was unreal. I kind of assumed it was a kind of hard brittle plastic when it had cooled. I'd never thought it would have put up with what you did.
    Then again, we mainly used epoxy powder coat there, the polyester stuff tended to be softer and a little more forgiving.

    Make something out of clay and let it fully dry, then coat it very heavily, maybe a few coats, but keep one spot uncoated.
    Wash ist out, the clay won´t harden at those temperatures at all, and see how strong the shell is.
    Or, to pick up a suggestion fromothers here, take a piece of glass, but coat it with some silicone spray as a heat-resistant release agent.
    Should leave you with a thin sheet of coating.

    Hi Martin, another thought, have you done much powder coating of cast stuff, just stripped and coated some ornate garden bench ends that would have had issues with faradays cage effect getting the powder in the corners, so I had to do them shortly after the degassing whilst still hot enough for the powder to stick and used loads of powder but looked great. Just a thought. Rich

    Martin can I ask advice please, I enjoy priming and painting house hold items such as kitchen cupboard handles and I keep running into the same problems, I clean and lightly sand down to get a key for the primer and then I paint, and lacquer all in stages, the problem I have is they look good for a few days then I noticed they all start to crack I don't know if its the paint or the lacquer, is this a problem you have ever encountered and if so what's the solution please

    • @RetroHax
      @RetroHax  3 года назад

      Make sure the paint and lacquer are compatible bud. Ask the supplier to recommend.

    Honestly thought this was going to be some sort of early April Fool’s joke 😂, but it turned out to be something with genuinely quite interesting results. 👍🏽 I don’t know whether it would be a good idea or not, but I know that polystyrene melts at 270°C, so could be interesting to see what happens when powder is applied to it, if it’s even possible. This is probably a terrible and stupid idea, but just something whacky I thought of... 😁
