It is amazing to see these Crypts and Mausoleums (from part 1 and part 2). They are beautiful. I hate to see the broken windows and damage; I hope someone fixes them. Not only are these incredible, they are historic too. Thank you for taking us on a tour!
I actually feel so much at peace for the families that are able to afford these and are able to all be together for eternal rest. To me it’s just such a special thing to have at the end. ❤️
Eternal rest? What religion is that? Our body goes back to dust and ash. If we’re a Christian, our soul departs to be with Jesus to spend our eternity in the New Jerusalem. If we were not saved, we will spend our eternity in the lake of fire being tormented.
Hi Mary ! I found this channel by watching the 'shorts'. Unfortunately the 'BELL' wasn't by the 'Subcribe' so I had to click on the channel pic name to finally get to hit the 'bell'. I'm subbed to Ron's channel also. Two great channels indeed. 🤘👻💖
@@CryptDoor You're a k👀l dude. I loved the Dark Shaddows music one of the 'shorts' you did. When folks got carried out of homes they always were carried feet faceing outwards, cause they didn't want the 'sprite' to find their way back to the house if they'd been murdered. Cazy eh? Maybe they didn't want to have to sprite coming back to seek revenge on who killed them?🤔
@@CryptDoor same here 😀 in watching all the way from the rock of gibraltar i also used to do this on my channel but it got hacked and had to start a new one but i love your channel!!
I have always been fascinated by mausoleums. I guess it’s a combination of my love for history and love for beautiful things. I know the immediate family members from these families are long gone, but I’ve always wondered if the cemetery had keys to these as well? Does anyone know?
I just watched Video One and So I Had Gotten So Into that One I Had To Watch This One Too… I just can’t believe how people spend so much money as was done on Millionaires Row👩💻🤷♀️
I know next week I have some hillside Crypts I’m going to show on a video that I would love to see what’s behind the door just to see how it set up inside
@@CryptDoor, if these was rich people I am sure family lived on after them. Then what happened to the money that could have kept up the resting places. Where are the families left behind. Do you know?
Hi Tony, this first mausoleum, as you can tell, this is one of the drawbacks to having windows on a mausoleum. I almost wish the cemetery management would install iron grills, instead of boarding up the broken windows. Iron grills would offer more security.
Millionaires planned & built their monuments ante-mortem during the Gilded Age as displays of power & wealth. When cremation became popular, many of them chose that option even today. Cemeteries are great to visit-not a place where you can have a family picnic & play baseball on Sunday afternoons. Good stuff! 👍
You said that word so fast I almost thought you said sh.. master 😂 Mary Deming was born on November 26th 1827 and on October 27th 1889 Roman numerals are not easy to read sometimes. You actually could see something through the keyhole. I took three screen shots they are all very interesting. The second one I took I see a face the one right before and after it's not there. Very interesting indeed.
At -- 16:35 -- If you listen closely you can hear a weird voice as you're walking to the steps. They chained the statue so no one could steal it. Sad to see the nose was damaged.
I have visited Mountain View many times. Always amazed by the displays of wildly rich dead people! BTW Elizabeth Short (the Black Dahlia) is buried here. You have to search for her to pay respects. The office will not help, which was requested by her remaining family.
Awesome videos. They give me ideas if I ever can afford my own mausoleum. I saw a video that explains good and bad quality mausoleums and I was hoping your future videos could demonstrate the qualities of old mausoleums. Thank you
I've been there a lot of times and have eaten lunch at the Crocker memorial. My fear is that some developer is going to come along and try to buy the cemetery since it is on very valuable land. Hopefully that will never happen. I now live on the other side of the world and really miss this place. I think it is on the same level as Highgate Cemetery in London in terms of how beautiful the funerary architecture is. On the Highgate Cemetery tour they actually let you into the large community mausoleum where you can see actual Victorian coffins in the niches. Around 1971 a bunch of people broke into it, opened the niches and took out the coffins thinking there were vampires there. No joke, it's insane. That's why you can see the coffins there.
Wow I remember as teenagers we usto go to lake marett and lay on the grass by the water back in early 70s I been away from Oakland for about 30 years now I live in Lousania
Were you able to visit Colma while you were in the Bay Area? Some really outstanding examples of historic memorials and the history of the move of graves. Cypress lawn is the most prominent.
I wonder why the cemetery doesn’t notify the owners/family that the repairs need to be made instead of letting them fall apart? If they’re millionaires surely they could get it fixed.
Do they have the same problem with the windows in these mausoleums out in CA that we have in the northeast: windows by Tiffany or LaFarge (or someone similar) that aren't broken, but stolen because they're worth a not-so-small fortune?
Amazing.... What do people think of themselves....one of the richest men in America died not too long ago....he is buried in an unmarked grave... Go figure🤱❤
It makes me wonder, for the families nowadays who are still wealthy, why they do not do some maintenance on their family members mausoleum/s after many years. Heck, some of these need a nice exterior cleaning to remove the water marks, biological grow, etc. A contractor with a pressure washer, the right chemicals for stonework, a couple of hours work, etc wouldn't cost them a fart in the wind to do so. It says a lot to me about their families. Mind you, I'm referring to just the families that are still wealthy btw.
Thank you for the tours, I couldn't imagine how much $$$ it costs to have one of these built? I'm saying by the looks, there not cheap...I'm being cremated, would rather spend my money now than to lay in a crypt so other's can walk by and say ohhh or wow.. ya know...great video, I like to peek into the rich peoples afterlife home... I have to say a few of those Angel's where a tad creepy looking if you ask me...
The Charles Crocker monument cost $ 90,000 in 1888. About 2.4 million today. Out of curiosity, I looked up some prices on the internet, and modern mausoleums like these are in the five to six figure range, sometimes over a million dollars, depending on size and materials. Guess I’ll have to settle for an urn! LOL

@@CryptDoor Hi ! I have some EVPs on my last video I made. I'll get back to making them soon.

What you refer to as "Midlevel" style is actually Gothic Revival !

I love the "mideaval" one. I do believe it's more of the Victorian Gothic style though.
Very interesting 🤔

"Merritt" like Lake Merritt in Oakland?
I wonder why the cemetery doesn’t notify the owners/family that the repairs need to be made instead of letting them fall apart? If they’re millionaires surely they could get it fixed.
There's probably so many descendants as to who would they call.
I’m surprised the families don’t leave money in a trust for the care & upkeep of their mausoleum.
should not put a old board to replace the broken window , needs a new double pain window ?
Do they have the same problem with the windows in these mausoleums out in CA that we have in the northeast: windows by Tiffany or LaFarge (or someone similar) that aren't broken, but stolen because they're worth a not-so-small fortune?
Yeah probably as well or some of the metal doors have been stolen off of the front of some of the family Mausoleums also
Where was the entrance to the crocker mausoleum?
Awesome! 😊 Have you ever run into Arthur Dark from Hollywood Graveyard?? 🪦🪦🪦
No
Is this place open to the Public? Im a Cemetery aficionado. (Taphophile). Can you take pictures here?thanks
I heard the EVP as well. It sounded like a 911 dispatcher.
Francis Marion Borax Smith, Borax king, originator of Key system, and many land interests.
Wonder what Mayor Merritt would think of Oakland now?
The "Smith" mausoleum is the resting place of Francis Marion "Borax" Smith. He is the other Boarx King along with William T. Coleman.

Could that Building, Mausoleum belong to A. W. Smith?

the SMITH MAUSOLEUM was of FRANCIS MARION "BORAX" SMITH (1846-1931) - KING OF BORAX

I dislike seeing all the damage. Makes me sad.
BTW, "slough" is pronounced "slew".
Even the dead are not safe in Oakland and need to be gated
The vandalism is rather sad.
