I've been watching Omeleto for a while now and noticed the titles too. They seem to have adapted pretty well to the social media sphere by just stating what the film is about in the title. Simple and effective. Great video btw!
This is a great niche set of advice, so many things I never thought about, and I have watched a SLURRY of videos about releasing films and how to market them the right way. This is an original advice piece, worthy of attention. Well done!
Oh man…need to put some real thought into this for my first short film, which I’m putting together right now! Even though I’m just in the beginning of my filmmaking journey, I don’t want to mess this up…😆 Great content as usual! 👊😃
The amount of information and great advice packed into this video is unreal. This channel really is turning into a one-stop shop for filmmakers. Appreicate it ❤📽
Man you just made me relise how many Omeleto shorts I've seen just because of their micro summary title approach alone. Definitely going to consider this approach wherever it seems most appropriate.
I saw the wall clock at the start and instantly knew you were a Back To The Future fan. Then the time travel happened with the BTTF sound effects. Great Scott! Loved the video, thank you for highlighting these to us. Very helpful!
I don’t think I will ever name a short film that I make “That Thing” in my life🤣🤣🤣🤣 I hope no one else does it too unless a big studio is backing them up.
You are great inspire! I was working on TV for 3 years and hate what i've been doing there. My main dream has always been to make a feature film and only now I am starting to make it come true. I've already made three short films, and one of them even got to film festival in South Korea (I was so happy), and I want to make another 9 short films in 9 months and after to start working on the feature. I don't know how but my trailer to short film "Stuck at work" got 8k+ views, that's crazy)) Now I love what I'm doing, and wanna say thank to you! You are a great inspire! And I love your videos and movies, especially Will The Machine. Can't wait for your third feature, it's gonna be sick!
Acutally learned something here. I never knew anyone was ever searching for "Dramatic Short Film" or "Comedic Short Film" I guess there are some people looking for that huh?
It's funny because I found out about your channel a couple weeks ago (love it btw), and thought that it would be great if you had tips about giving a great title to a short film, as I could not find a good video covering that topic on RUclips. And here you are, posting the exact video I was hoping for! Awesome! Love this style of videos, with some humor and special effects, it's entertaining and informative, keep it up!
I like the title idea from Omeleto. "Short film" is not compelling enough. Your video is full with useful tips and ideas. And congrats on a future baby
Do you think you can make a video about tips on making a short horror movie. Things like making the viewers feel vulnerable when watching, building up tension, sound design ETC? I would greatly appreciate it! Also love you content, I'm a college student who is studying movie production so your content helps a lot!
Great advice. I've seen a ton of short films on RUclips. I watch Omeleto, DUST, ALTER, and so many other channels that host short films. But I like to try films outside of the network-like channels. The best short I've ever seen is called Two Strangers Who Meet Five Times. I found it in the wild, and the title piqued my interest immediately. I'm so glad I watched it, because it was perfect. The structure, acting, and ending. I cannot recommend watching it enough. Years of looking for the perfect short film, and I just found it a couple weeks ago. Better late than never! My only complaint with channels like ALTER is that they have a bad habit of using a shot from the end of the movie as the thumbnail. It is infuriating, and a slap in the face to those who went through the trouble of making the films. A twelve minute long film, and ALTER will just be like, "Hey! Here's an eye-catching thumbnail to entice you into watching it!" only to find out that they used a shot from the last minute of the film.
I wonder if this era of catering to short attention spans will eventually reverse. When I heard that people watch ten minutes and then click on something else, I thought it was a joke. It's not. I think that business, not science or art, will make the change. After all, investing in something that has low probability of return is pointless, and at a certain point, business might require a change. Either that, or the government will change, and qualified filmmakers will get a base salary plus grants for movies and they can make movies for artistic reasons rather than for profit.
For titles since you couldn't get in depth about them, I would suggest using rhetorical devices in titles like diacope, tricolon, Epizeuxis, oxymorons, etc. Rhetoric devices really elevate titles in my opinions.
Mmmmmmm interesting, yet I'm still learning, I really need to remember to make a thumbnail. And first of all, I better start to find a cool title for a couple of shorts I need for a film school contest.
Excellent video! Haha laughed so much when future self first appeared! But yeah great points here. Do you ever test thumbnails on your Instagram? Ask the audience type thing?
No but that's a great idea. I usually get feedback from a more experienced RUclipsr friend before posting which has been very helpful. You wouldn't believe how bad the original thumbnail for this video was 😬
Really interesting debate. If a movie is great then it doesn't matter what it's called. Even if a few people love it, word of mouth kicks in and creates a following, and, in many cases the more wacky the title the more intriguing, at the very least someone will check it out, out of curiosity, and if the movie is good they'll recommend it. Another way to look at this subject is to take your movie "Title" which will inevitably be something logical than something creative, let's call it a "Tell" rather than a "Show". Shaking hands? How else could that title idea be developed so its more intriguing, and so a potential consumer, doesn't just go, "I know what that film's about, next"...
I think they go for shorts that had a strong/award-winning film festival run. One of the producers connected me to them after we'd played at a bunch of fests. Their website should have a submission section.
@@StandardStoryCo Gotchu, thanks again for the good content. Maybe consider doing a video about where new directors can put their short movies on without needing to win awards before hand.
A man finds a camera that reveals where and when he will meet his future girlfriend. 👍 (I didn’t even know what my short film’s longline was until I watched your video. I just added it as the title for my short film on RUclips. We’ll see if it helps. Thank you for the advice. It is much appreciated. Your other videos are very helpful too.) 👍
Why don't you interview the dude from Omeletto and get him to explain their whole process: where/how they acquire their films, how/why they choose thumbnail images, etc, etc...
My understanding is that the algorithm doesn't support stand alone films. Occasionally one will hit but that's mostly due to audience from your other content coming over to to get the ball rolling. Am I right?
@@belivaboy One piece of advice I can offer in the grand scheme of writing is that I often practice writing loglines for the many project ideas floating in my head. During this brief writing phase I try identify a primary theme and assign a potential title to that idea. After a while of doing this I have ended up with a repertoire of pitches, and it has given me the ease of mind to more easily see which Loglines stand out to me as being the most viable option to pursue now that I'm finally gearing up to start making short films. In short this alone has given me something to more confidently fall back on in the likely case of failure and/or rejection.

by far the hardest part of fasting is the boredom. If you've never done a multiday fast, you have no idea the enormous amount of your daily time is spent thinking about, preparing, or eating food. Depending on your lifestyle, it can be really hard to fill all that extra free time. If you want a fast to be easy, start it when you are very busy

So weird how the concept of "one hit wonder" is somehow a bad thing when most people don't get to do anything with their life

I think al use this technique in my first short film titled [BAD DAY TO STEAL]

I saw the portraits in the back and thought they look like Chris Fornataro's work. Then I saw him in the Will the machine trailer.

Just commenting cuz I want to see how long I've been following the channel
You mention that RUclips will take a frame from the film and use that for the poster. Is there any way to control which frame is selected?
Yes, you can choose to upload a photo as thumb image after the upload.
Great job - really useful and well made too.
Love it man
I’m here for the Felix the Cat clock.
Where the heck do you find all the actors? I film nobody but myself. 😅😅😅😅

I uploaded a 15 seconds short where I am playing both handed table tennis but only a few hundred views 🤔 the RUclips algorithm isn’t my friend 🙈
