The football player was bullied at an early age, which created a desire to never be out matches or out done. He needed to be perfect in every way. That’s why when he saw the boy getting bullied he decided to step in right away. He may have been abused, possible sexually. That is why he felt embarrassment and hid himself from the girl. It may also be fear that she may become a distraction to his goal of physical perfection. When the other player arrived he simultaneously realized he could use him to get even stronger while at the same time triggering his inferiority complex. In the end he admits defeat and realizes the benefit of using the new guy as a way to push his limits even farther.

A religion can *help* you on that path, but it is never an answer in and of itself. Wow! I think your interpretation is fantastic. On a personal level I had a VERY rough childhood but I excelled at Rugby (similar sport) and pushed myself very hard to stay on top. My first thoughts were very similar to yours. I never had the other runner experience. As for the girl, I was attracted but whenever I interacted I was disappointed at how 'shallow' there were. It was only later that I realized I was forced into maturity early and they were at the correct stage of development.

And the awkward no eye contact with the adult coaches is also another stem prominently found in sexual or physical abuse of a former adult stranger. This guy was me when I was younger. People from all around my little rural county called my Rudy. I played football from like third to eighth grade. I was pretty small, but if I got riled up I could take on just about anyone. But the problem was, once my teammates and friends found out, the constantly got me mad. That part of my life was such an absolute mess for my mental health, but hey, we were winning. Eventually I moved to the county where I currently live now and lost every single game I played in. It was probably the worst moment of my life. I thought that if I wasn't the best I was nothing. It drove me batshit crazy. At ages 12-14 I was lifting almost the same bar as my dad. But at one point, I cracked. I couldn't take it anymore. And while my playing suffered, I was the happiest I'd ever been. I quit at the winter of eighth grade and never looked back. Anthony Quiroz AQ, there is something special about talent ... it can and often does.beat hard work. Eg. my daughter is a classical pianist. Reads music on sight, hears a piece once, has perfect pitch. She learns stuff in minutes that takes me days. I once played chess against a 13 year old prodigy ... got my ass kicked. There is definately something ‘special’ and hard work might compensate up to a point.

He was no doubt, not just bullied but, sexually abused (probably by an athletic older brother) as a youngster. The coach may even have heard rumors to that effect. This would also explain his attempting to "save" the younger boy from his bullying big brother on the street. After his own assault, Machine decided the only way to deal with it was to become bigger, stronger, and faster than the bullies. It became too much to handle when his new friend might be bigger, stronger, faster. He viewed him as a genuine threat. Again, thank you for this amazing film.

But this time, I really wanted to see this story conclude. Felt like it needed to, both for the characters and the audience. But great job on the film, I was truly drawn in! Also, I felt like his words while working out and when he got mad at the new guy were echoes of whoever abused him, which is something often seen as a way of trying to gain control - abused becoming abusers. At the end when he discovered that the new guy wasn't going to abuse him, he finally opened himself up to training with someone else!! Great acting!!

This is why I love short stories man, it's just enough information and plot to keep you hooked into the story, and the best part is that the story could go in any direction after what we have seen. Does Will fall from Grace after the new kid in town joins the team and takes his spot? Does he go into a downward spiral that Ultimately destroyed him? Does he finally except that perfection isn't just a physical attribute and he must be at peace with himself before he is truly perfect? Does he overcome his insecurities and decide to let this new kid push him physically and emotionally? Does the kid teach will that he doesn't have to "literally" a Machine. Do we learn about his past and why he's developed his persona as the "Machine"? Was it abuse? Was it bullying? Was it just obsession? All answers are possible but we will never know. This needs to be a movie. .. and the creators of these films should make a movie it would be a hit because they are very detailed films from being so short and say so much with so little words.

I low key strive for that dudes work ethic in the gym, it’s obviously unhealthy and not realistic but honestly it’s pretty bad ass, I love that he was in that weight room before everyone else, and as everyone else was coming in he was leaving.

I feel this. I started wrestling at a freshman and felt I had to work 4x as hard as my teammates in Texas to catch up to the real wrestlers up north. I would have already ran and lifted before 6am practice. And still be the first to roll out Mats. It’s pushed me away from my teammates and ended up messing up my body. I’m about to have my second surgery to fix my knee. I’m getting ready to go wrestle juco in Minnesota next year after I recover. I’m missing my senior season because I didn’t know how to rest. I went from not even going to state my jr year. To placing 6th place at “freak show” 5 months later. Currently top 5 in the state. But these are rankings from last year. If I didn’t get hurt, I’d be in running for the state champ.-know your limits, humble your self. And know how to rest. Let’s see if I can still make the big ten

    Awesome film.
I'd say that definitely needs to be a feature film. Good inspirational football films are the best with a good back story to follow. Wish these guys the best at what they do. Good luck with everything.

If an athlete puts that much pressure on themselves they a bound to fail... most likely getting pressure at home also.
Want to excel? Do it because you love it... don’t isolate yourself. If you are a great athlete share yourself with others.
