A convoy of German NATO infantry set off for Kosovo from a base outside Kukes in Albania on Sunday morning.
As the unit passed ethnic Albanian refugees in Kukes they were greeted with cheering.
The German infantry unit was on its way to join British, French and Italian NATO troops in the war-torn province.
Later in the day, the German troops entered the southern Kosovo town of Prizren.
There they were met by crowds of cheering Kosovars who could barely contain their excitement at the arrival of the peacekeepers.
The troops came with tanks, armoured personnel carriers, heavy trucks and bridge-laying equipment.
Another German contingent, arriving in Prizren from Macedonia in the early hours of Sunday, were also greeted by enthusiastic crowds who waved, cheered and threw flowers at the convoy.
Thousands of troops from other NATO countries are continuing to flood into Kosovo from Macedonia.
The deployment, which started at daybreak on Saturday, begins a massive operation to both restore political stability and a devastated infrastructure to the war-torn southern Yugoslav province.

@FamouzzSerbTM Ganz im Gegenteil. Es war vielleicht der einzige Kriegseinsatz Deutschlands der im Endeffekt wirklich berechtigt war und Frieden gebracht hat. Die Mehrheit der Bevölkerung Kosovo's (über 90% zu dem Zeitpunkt) hat den deutschen Truppen zugejubelt. Das passiert in Afghanistan nicht, sagen wir es so.
Dass du das als Serbe anders siehst wundert mich kaum. Ich nehme an dass du auch nichts Verwerfliches and Srebrenica oder den Taten der Serben im Kosovo siehst oder? Serbien war ein Opfer und kein Täter, und das alles war eine Deutsch-Amerikanische Verschwörung gegen Serbien? Genau, das ist der Grund warum Serbien bombardiert wurde. Nichtmal Tuđmans Kroaten waren so verblendet wie viele Serben es bis heute sind. Und das soll was heißen. Glücklicherweise kenne ich viele Serben die das Ganze differenzierter betrachten und erkennen dass es in der Politik kein Schwarz und Weiß gibt.

Und dass Serben ernsthaft noch immer die Opferkarte ausspielen, obwohl die Taten in den 90ern für sich sprechen, ist wirklich erschreckend und ein Zeichen von Schwäche.
Ein Zeichen von Stärke wäre es, sich der eigenen Vergangenheit zu stellen, diese aufzuarbeiten und so eine friedliche Koexistenz azf dem Balkan zu ermöglichen.
Aber nein, in Serbien werden Kriegsverbrecher noch immer wie Helden gefeiert und jede kritische Auseinandersetzung mit den eigenen Taten verhindert. Traurig.

As gruesome as the germans were, the albanians had actually a pretty decent standing with the germans during ww2. They weren't doing bad at all, mainly because serbia was supportive of russia and the albanians were revengeful for the serbian attack on albanian soil under the pretense of attacking the ottomen empire.The ottomen empires power was already fading in the albanian region due to albanias effort for independence. This was also the time albanian populated regions fell in the hands of serbia, mazedonia, greece and montenegro as they started a joint attack onto its regions and kicks off a long lasting ethnical conflict in that region. With that being said, albania itself has good ties to israel even though they were supported by the germans. Mainly because albanian civilians housed a couple hundred jews and hid them from the germans. Once the germans would have defeated the russians and would have gotten rid of the serbs, there is no telling though. They might have turned on the albanians too.

Just like when the Russians entered Bulgaria in 1877. The Bulgarians glorified them as their "liberators", the same Russians who had committed mass murder in Poland multiple times and drowned the 1848 Hungarian Revolution in blood. The Kosovo Albanians in 1999 welcomed the U.S/NATO who starved and murdered millions of Iraqis. It's sad when populations can't make that distinction, and think they're something special to an imperialist power.
Maybe let people in a wartorn unstable country be happy that forces on the populations side enter the conflict to keep em safe?
