Yugoslav police launched a new operation Wednesday against Kosovo rebels after President Slobodan Milosevic told two top NATO generals he will purue afforts to crush the ethnic Albanian rebellion regardless of threats of airstrikes.
In the latest operation, Serb police moved Wednesday into an area near Kosovska Mitrovica, about 40 kilometres (24 miles) northwest of Pristina.
The Serb Media Centre said police had surrounded a house in the village of Vaganica where about a dozen rebels were believed to be hiding.
Police demanded they surrender but the rebels responded with bursts of automatic rifle fire.
South of the area, on the K-L-A held side of the fighting, rebel soldiers continued their manoeuvres as civilians continued to flee the area.

KLA were very much fighting for their freedom and had no choice but to take up arms against Serbs after many years of oppression.

Would Serbs kill their own people if they were in the same predicament? Balkan people (including Kosovan Albanians) are not the kind to kill their own in order to gamble and hope that the world come to their rescue. To me that sounds more like a religious/cultural sacrifice somewhere found far away from Europe.

Frequent attacks by Albanian separatists in the center of Stimlja, Dulja, attacks on telecommunication centers, on police vehicles, army vehicles and civilian vehicles. Also, there have been frequent kidnappings of members of different nationalities, without any reason. In the latest attack on that center, a member of the Serbian police, Svetislav Przic, was killed while sitting in a police car with his colleagues. A total of eight members of the Serbian police, 14 members of the Serbian army and four civilians were killed in those 28 KLA terrorist attacks, with fatal consequences and injuries. In that period, a total of 35 people of Serbian and Roma nationality were kidnapped. Of those 35 people, 14 are still unknown and there is no trace of what happened to them.
The action had the character of an arrest and not a murder, but due to the events on the ground, weapons were also used. The Serbian special forces withdrew to avoid losses because the KLA terrorists had showered them from all sides. After the action, long trenches, piles of KLA terrorist uniforms, lots of ammunition, lots of shells were found in the nearby hills. KLA terrorists were concentrated there. When it was necessary to investigate the murders, specifically of those Albanians whose bodies were found in Rack, a Serbian team of experts, forensic doctors, pathologists from Belgrade and Pristina was sent. The commander of the Serbian police action, commander Janicijevic, immediately said that the previous data that the Serbian police had, as well as those from the field, on the one hand, do not match the report made by the Hague Tribunal investigator. Two groups of bodies were found in the field, three and four bodies each, but not 23 bodies as claimed. So the mission report is fake. In another place, in the mosque, there are said to be several corpses.
A team of Serbian experts entered that mosque and actually found a total of 40 corpses. The team was accompanied by journalists, cameras, everything was recorded, nothing was hidden. The court witness, Dr. Dobricanin, immediately saw that there were no traces of massacre, torture, beheading and dismemberment on the bodies, as Walker had previously said in public. So what Walker said is a complete lie. Walker and Helena Rant tried in every way to sabotage the further autopsy. They knew that everything was designed to accuse the Serbs.
Likewise, Sukri Buja, the commander of that part of the terrorist, criminal KLA, for the village of Reçak, has testified in The Hague that his unit was ambushed. He said everyone died except him. They were killed by Serbian special forces in an operation. It was not a crime. Walker lied that in that ravine (which does not exist), in the village of Reçak, the corpses of women and children were found, even though there were no women and children. Of course they were all grown men. Even the Hague Tribunal later found that those Albanians died in battle. In the end, this was determined by the Americans themselves.
