German army units, taking part in NATO's largest military operation, were moving toward Kosovo from Macedonia on Saturday.
This is the first deployment of German troops in strength since the end of World War II.
Making their way to the main border crossing point near Blace, the German troops were cheered by hundreds of refugees from Stankovic camp.
They shouted "NATO! NATO!" and made victory signs.
Meanwhile, more British troops crossed the Kosovo border at the village of Djeneral Jankovic.
The movements are part of the build up for "Operation Joint Guardian", one of the biggest military undertakings in Europe since World War Two.
British and French troops were spearheading the initial NATO thrust, with German, U-S and Italian forces moving in later.

Kinda poetic, 60 years before this event were german tanks rolling through kosovo an scary sight for the inhabitants, they came as conquerors and now they see them as liberators.

@@diedeutschenkonservative7551 In the 2 nd world war, when the Germans came to Kosovo as an effective army force, they where waited as liberators. Not because Albanians Kosovars where Nazis, but they suffered too much from Serbian Slavic brutal kingdom regime. and also one argument, they (Kosovans ?Albanians have a nice and positive memory with German AND Austrian Hungary army in the first world war.
My ant which died some years ago, she was in that time a grown girl and remembering German Wehrmacht soo nicee. She told me not once but many times that they cvonsidered German army AS their blessing dfrom God after being terrrorised all the time by serbs. This is why especially we in the Kosovo even today we like GermANS and Germany and considering Deutschland as an honest allied.
