My pops bought a 04’ 450 6.0 powerstroke manual for 8k, a month later it blew up. I’ve done work on some cars and seeing your video makes me want to invest in fixing his truck myself. I think I can do it and would enjoy it, plus I find it relaxing when you’re working in the shop alone. Thank you for your video. I can tell you some more about what happened to my dads truck if you’d like
I’m trying to recall in an earlier video that you mentioned using another manufacturer for the high pressure oil pump branch tube, I could be wrong, excellent detail in your video, thank you Sir 👍😁
No other manufacturer for the branch tube just the stand pipes that go into it. Ford changed o ring manufacturers and the small o rings fail so either a set from dieselsite or ford ones with Alliant power o rings!
Dude, this is the most comprehensive, no BS build video I've seen for a 6.0. I've rebuilt the entire top end of my motor at 245k. $20k into new sensors, wiring harnesses, lpop, hpop, injectors, FICM, manifolds, gaskets, o rings, analog monitoring eqpt. etc. I'm saving to build a 1 off motor to see just how far the 6.0 can be pushed in terms of fuel efficiency. The plan is to use speed of air pistons and street port KDD ICON aluminum heads with a stage 1 or 2 colt cam. Right now i am running an atlas 80 tune getting around 18 mpg with a high miles engine and with modern parts I'm hoping to exceed 20 mpg with over 400 hp. Do you know if there is any difference between the pressures of the early vs late HPOPs? I know that its regulated by the IPR, but the ability to build higher pressures should lead to higher over all atomization of fuel based off of tuning. Is swapping out the entire hpop and oil rail system really worth it? I have had no issues with the older log style rails, and an HPOP is much easier to swap without a lift than standpipes due to the passenger side HVAC constrictions. Thanks for the video!
I just came across your channel and it’s awesome. I just watched this video and went back and watched the one you removed the cab. Can you do a video of removing the motor without a lift and pulling from the front? 😮. I don’t have a lift and I’d like to see what a pain it’s gonna be (LMAO). I may just have to write this truck off as a loss. 😢
I have lifter issues got a stage to rebuild kit do to one of them getting sent through the motor. You know a lot about these motors I have a lot of questions about the older style and newer style motors and what I need to
Installed bull proof oil cooler and s2r intake exhaust. Now the injectors on passenger is will not plug in to ficm harness. Do you have any tips I can use thank. And great video
Really like your channel, content.i m probably looking at new injectors next year on my06 super duty. I saw u used 155/30 Warren s on the redharley truck, but I'm not sure if I shouldn't stick with 155,s and stock nozzles on my truck with will see some towing, getting ready to rretire,I've heard the 30% over nozzles can smoke to much and make to much heat under heavy load. Do you have an opinion on this thank you.. also where are you located.
How’d you get the rocker boxes so clean. Im about to over haul a motor since i had no clue what i was doing when i did head gaskets and seals. But i want to make sure everything is done right and looking clean
I have a really good question. Is there a way to take a 03 motor and updated with the 06 hpop. So you have the reliability of the old style before they went to the ones that have more higher leak. Talk about the standpipes and the Stc problems. Make it work with the original Branch tube system.
Happy Easter to ya and your family. Tech question. I live far from a diesel mechanic. I own a 2004 1/2 6.0. And I am cheap. I want to change out my turbo and injectors myself. Will I need any special tools to do this? And, will I need to put new injector numbers into computer? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Happy Easter to you and your family as well! You will need a medium length t40 torx, H12 Allen, very small t30 torx, 13mm ratchet wrench and some patience for the passenger side. Injectors do not need programmed unless going to a bigger size then you will need some custom tuning for a good idle.
@@Atomic_Diesel Thanks a ton. You are pretty awesome on your teaching skills. I really appreciate your channel. It's like a learning channel for us cheap/dyi types
As a 6.0 owner these aren’t cheap to buy parts for and are super labor intensive to work on. My father had a 1969 911 and those air cooled flat 6 engines are super expensive for parts. Working on one of those is like working on a Continental 6 cyl aircraft engine minus the dual spark plug ignition system.
all them snap on tools and u dont have a wear ring puller or installer? lol u can get the set with the front and rear main seal puller and installer for 700 bucks. if u work on 6.0 and 6.4 its a must. cool video, looks like a nice engine. i also agree using only motorcraft for sensors and gaskets and other critical parts. i even use the motorcraft silicone for the 6.0 and 7.3. great stuff, just expensive.
How many miles are on these motors, I'm at 220k zero issues, only have changed two injectors , just trying to decide if I want to make more power but looks like all these P.O.S lacked maintenance
when install my lifters, i install them with the hole facing towards the front, i didn’t know they go like that, it is my first build on a 6.0 and is my own, i’ve been having fun with it and no issues, should i be worried?
My 6.0 just started making a lifter noise at 270k and began overheating out of nowhere. It’s always ran great with no blow by, only leaked a ton of oil. My plan is to re seal the engine and rebuild the top end. Do you think it’s worth it?
I do. restoration is always better than these new desials there expensive to fix. And u have a payment spend 10 to 15 k ha e agood machanic do it. 6.0 thats really bullet proofed is a bad mamajama
@@BlakeRobison-jh3ft mainly everything inside the engine, new injectors front cover, etc.. re using the hpop since its the updated version so it should be good. I already did the turbo, ipr valve, 58v ficm, replaced other sensors recently

Great Vid, Ty for the Tips .
For these types of jobs I HIGHLY recommend a motor mount engine stand adapter for 6.0, 6.4, 6.7, way better than using a hoist
Another good video
I was wondering where could we find all the torque specs for the engine components. As well as what do you torque the oil pan bolts to?.

Yes everything gets taped up where we don’t want powder.

I wouldn’t worry about a 30 nozzle at all. When you get to 75 and 100 nozzles, they make some heat.
