Wow this video is 2yrs! Anyway, thanks for this video! I just applied to a position as a Clinical Documentation Improvement RN position. I just got an email from the recruiter to forward my resume. I hope I get an interview!!
This is exactly what I was looking for!
Fantastic and very informative video!
Thank you for sharing.
So happy to find this video. I have been looking to do something different. My main goal is to eventually get into healthcare analytics- this seems like it would be a great stepping stone.
Thank you for this video.
A documentation nurse job sounds perfect for me! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for sharing!
I enjoyed your video. Your presentation style is clear, encouraging and calm. Thank you very much for sharing your experience.
This was just what I was looking for…. I have almost 25 years bedside critical care and ER expertise as and RN and recently saw so many jobs for this an was curious as to what it was and what it entailed. This was most informative for me to make choices. Your a Fantastic speaker!
Yess this is awesome information as a nurse with tons of nurse with documentation, ICD code and inpatient hospital experience
Very informative, thank you!
OMG!! This is so awesome. Thank you!! Nicely done.
Admission Hospice/Palliative Nurse here!! Former ICU nurse.
Great great video❤. I just applied, praying I get an interview and an offer. I am currently a case manager, Nurse that have currently almost 7 years of experience of Home Health, MedSurg, telemetry, critical care, mobile IV hydration and travel, nurse
Your video was very helpful. Appreciate you
I have worked in bedside nursing as an RN doing medsurg and behavioral health for 5 years. Got burned out. I then transitioned to utilization management doing prior authorization for medical and behavioral health review for a managed care company and I have done that for 7 years. It is so stressful . I have worked from home for 5 years and I love it. I have been looking to make a switch to do something else so watching your videos was very helpful. CDI sounds amazing but I am not sure if I qualify for that since I do not have ICU experience.
I'm super impressed with your presentation. I'm looking for a remote job but have not found a good fit for me. I taught clinical for a graduate FNP program but pay was very bad.
Thanks Nadesha for this information. Joy
Thanks for watching
This was so interesting and informative. I am a nurse case manager in a hospital and documentation seems like a natural career progression for me. Thank you for breaking it down!
Your welcome. A lot of case managers transition into documentation improvement.
I have been a Coder for 6 years, currently taking prerequisites for nursing school. Documentation is HIGHLY important for accurate and OPTIMAL reimbursement. Great video! ❤️
Kudos to you for embarking on the nursing journey. Best of luck to you. Yes, documentation is far more improvement that we realize.
I'm in a foreign Doctor from Haiti; I moved here 2 years ago, looking forward to have to clinical documentation certification first and after I m thinking about to have my nursing degree. I need advice 🙏
Great video thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching ❤️
I'm a Surgical Clinical Nurse Reviewer for the VA. I review and track surgical cases for mortality and morbidity. It's under the scope of quality improvement as we capture data to improve our patient care outcomes. I've been a nurse for 20 years, but away from the bedside for over a decade. I'm looking into doing something different that builds on my clinical and chart review skills. This may be a good fit for me. Great channel!
That sounds pretty interesting and similar to the scope of a DI nurse. Thanks for watching ❤️
Very informative
good info.. keep it coming 😀
Thanks Alan 😊
I’m hoping to pivot my career after bedside and phone triage nursing for 32 yrs and this interests me greatly!
You were lovely and very informative Ty! I would love for you to give examples of how you respectfully approach MD’s who need to document their findings. Consider doing another video exclusively with examples please? 😏
This is something I am very interested in!
Thanks for watching ❤️
Love this post. 🤔💖
No wonder a 10 min PowerPoint presentation was a part of my second interview. 😂
I just accepted a position 3 days ago! Looking forward to it but I will miss my patients in the pediatric ICU.
Things in my resume that I believe helped me get an interview for those of you applying after watching this video...
5 years of Pediatric ICU experience
Involvement in council work
Presented research and work at a nursing conference
Speaker at many nursing events for my college and hospital
Seems like there will be many educational presentations! Happy applying!
Thanks for sharing this information ❤️
Thank you so much for this video! So informative. I currently work in primary care as a nurse care manager, following patients as they are hospitalized and transition back to home. It’s very insurance driven. I’m interested in learning more about the backend of healthcare and clinical documentation improvement is something I’ve always heard about but never really knew what it was. Can’t wait to see more videos!
Thanks for watching ❤️
Me too! 6 years of care mgr. experience here & I want to get into CDI !!
Thank you for this information. I’m ER…. Maybe I’ll look for an opportunity to break into ICU for experience.
You are awesome!
Thank you! So are you ❤️
Interesting info.
Glad you think so!
Interesting area of nursing. Never heard of or thought about this area of nursing prior to watching your videos. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching 😊
I am a Medical Policy Specialist similar
Very interested in this....
Thanks for the video!!! Do you know the best places to apply? Do you need a CCDS for these jobs?
Came across this video. Thank you for this information. I’m a BSN and I’m taking a CPC course and I was told by my instructor that CDI is usually the way RN’s go when getting into coding.
So I’m not a critical care nurse, I’m an acute care. Is there no place for an acute care nurse in this specialty?
And also, what’s a good starting point to begin this path? Im going to take a CPC exam but have no clue as to how to get where you are haha! Thanks again!
I have the same questions Gerald. I'm in acute care and have a BSN. So wondered how to get started in this career. I'll keep researching. Thanks Nadesha.
I completed a certificate in education of CDI (Clinical Documentation Improvement). I'm so proud of you.
Congratulations 🎊🎈. Thank you and kudos to you on the certification.
How long does it take for the certification? Do you need a MSN first or is a bsn ok?
hi where can i get CdI certificate thank you
I am an RN with 25 years In L&D. Do you know where I can find a job in CDI with this speciality? I currently do not have experience in CDI but am interested in transitioning. Any advice would be appreciated. Love your video. Very clear and concise.
Check in the hospital where you work. I know 3 nurses collegues that found work in the CDI department at the hospital that I work.
WOW thank you so much for your information. I am an LPN so far i am in the process of get certified for medical coder. my goal is CDI.
just curious where can i get my CDI certificate or how to become a CdI consultant.thank you
Hi! I am an Ob RN for more than 10 years. I already passed the CPC exam and removed my A status via AAPC’s practicode. I still find difficulty looking for a job and some of the agency wanted a FT position and with actual coding experience. Unfortunately, they dont count the practicode as an actual coding experience. I applied several times and even applied
for a HEDIS position but still unlucky to get a part time job. Is there any more options that you can suggest because I am beginning to loose hope in a coding world. Thank you.
Hello Nadesha. I have an interview with a potential employer for a CDS position and was wondering what would be some things to know besides the obvious interview questions? Been an ICU RN for 5 years and got a call for an interview despite not having any CDS experience. This is a dream position for me at the moment but I don't want to come off clueless because I have no idea about anything about CCS, MediCal or any of those laws, rules regulations. Thanks so much for this video.
Hey there, congratulations and best of luck on the interview.
Some questions you can ask is
1. What systems do they use for coding?
2. What is the expected productivity once your off of orientation
3. What is the expected query rate once off of orientation?
4. How long is the orientation period being you have no prior experience.
5 . Lastly you can ask what is the relationship like with the CDI department and the physicians. This will tell you how hard you will have to work to get your queries answered.
6. Is there an escalation process for unanswered queries?
7. How often is staff Education provided for the CDS staff.
I hope these were helpful.
I have never heard of a documentation nurse in Canada
I’m not sure if it’s popular in Canada but do some research and let me know what you come up with.
Is this the same as Heath information management? Or u could do that program to become a documentation specialist?
What kind of type master’s degree would be best for this position?
Does a documentation nurse working remotely have to be very structured during 'set' hours?
What is a remote RN position that offers flexibility with the times worked as long as the work gets done?
Are you familiar with the ACDIS CDI-Apprenticeship certification? I have mine along with my RHIT and CCS certifications, including 30 plus years nursing experience.
I have an interview on friday, i am so nervous since I Don't have any experience. Any key tips?
Thank you for your video, very informative! I have a MSN in Informatics and thought it would be interesting to have CDI experience under my belt! I am having my 1st CDI interview today with the hopes of it going well! My concern is I do not have ICU experience, however I've been a PACU nurse for 9 years. Again, thanks for this information
How did it go?
@@marci8850 Hi Marci, it's been a slow process, however I do have a 2nd interview later this week. We will see what the outcome holds, lol
@@marci8850 Just fyi, I did get the job 😀😀
Congratulations 🎉🎈🎊 how do you like it so far?
@@marci8850 I actually don’t start until the 28th! But will let you know ☺️
Good information. how does this role leverage technology?
Thanks so much, the patient information is in an electronic medical record and the Documentation staff uses a software that generates the codes for each diagnosis found in the medical record.
I am an Rn with one year of experience in clinical setting in USA , and 5 years of experience in India. Is there any option to Be a documentation nurse for me. Please reply
I am trying to decide if I should get a Master's in Nursing administration or if I should ditch that plan and work on a CDI certification. I am currently a BSN RN Care Manager from a primary care setting, following up with complex patients after their hospitalizations.
Lol at “ditch that plan”. That would all depend on what your career goals are. In order to get certified in CDI you would first need 2 years experience working as a CDI Specialist.
Im ER ICu nurse looking change cdi nurse. Do i need to be certified or take a coding class ?
Nurse manager here with 12+ acute care experience (most units). 5 plus years of manager/chart auditing exp. What would be my first step if I wanted to pursue this? I want to get into a 100% remote position so I can work from abroad and travel back and forth to California while employed? Thank you for the informative video!
A nurse here. You mean work from abroad, travel back and forth? All I know is their is HIPAA. So you need to work within a SECURED NETWORK.
Can a CNA for 15 years become CDI/S?
New sub
Thank you. Trying to return the favor, what’s your channel?
Wow you sound like you've been a nurse for longer than you've lived. from past life too. lol. You know a LOT!!!!
Do you recommend the ACDIS approved CDI Apprentice Program for beginners?
ACDIS is a great resource for CDI training.
Do we require CDS certification, secondly the salary on Google is about 60k, do people earn more, or is Google providing wrong data
In your opinion, which position is most rewarding....clinical documentation specialist nurse or phone triage nurse?
Retired Critical care nurse
Hello I am a Care Manager interested in type of companies that hire documentation specialist.
I'm a cardiac rehab nurse. I do have a question, in your video you mentioned sometimes you do education to the physicians as a presentation. That is really the only thing pushing me back from this. I don't do well with public speaking 😕 any type of advice for me? Is it a group of doctors when you present? And is it something you do by yourself or as a group with other CDI nurses? Thank you
I would love to interview you on my other channel focused on CDI. Let me know if you do interviews
Sure. I’m open to it🤗

I just got the job on clinical documentation audit and I don’t have that much background. Can you suggest any book or online course related to this job? Thank you ahead.
Will you be working as a documentation specialist doing in-patient coding?

Hello, out of curiosity, is your place of employment requiring that employees for this remote job position take the vaccine? Or are respecting exemptions?
As far as I know they are requiring that we take the vaccine.
Makes me feel stuck where I’m at. At least I have an exemption in place already. Hard to apply for a job when one of the requirements is fully vaccinated and boosted.
Hi there! I’m a BSN graduate and currently working on my NCLEX-RN exam.. I’m really interested on becoming a Clinical Documentation Specialist and make this as a career.. is it possible for a new nursing graduate to become one?
Hey there. Best of luck on the Nclex exam. In my opinion this specialty is for an experienced nurse. The ability to dissect the medical record takes years of experience and strength as a nurse.
how do you get a job like this? and what is your background?
My background is in the ICU. I did critical care for about 5 years before transitioning into this role. You can look to see if there are CDI opportunities in your area.
How is this different from Inpatient Utilization Review?
UR is more Case management
@@naturalenursenadesha7676 from your description of the job (minus the coding part as there is a different department for that and we have logic built into our EHR that automatically codes diagnoses entered in H&Ps, procedure and progress notes), it sounds similar to my previous job. I was a utilization review nurse in the ER and my job was to recommend a level of care prior to admission to ensure the patient was placed in the correct level of care from admission. After the admission order was entered, I would then complete a review using clinical review criteria (Interqual or Milliman) and then fax to the payer. On the UR inpatient side, we were responsible for the subsequent care days in validating the current level of care and evaluating the medical necessity for the patient to remain in the hospital in that level of care based on clinical documentation, severity of illness and intensity of service. We completed concurrent reviews and faxed to payer to ensure continued stay approval. We would also deal with concurrent denials and follow the appeal process to ensure reimbursement. We would communicate with the attending regarding patients in the wrong level of care and obtain an order to either downgrade or upgrade based on medical necessity. Case management, at least for the hospital system I work for, refers to discharge planning and transitions of care. We use a triad model composed of the utilization review RN, the RN case manager and the social worker, so the roles are different but all complement each other. Does CDS involve clinical reviews at all?
What is your work schedule like?
Mine is very flexible but 7am-3:30p. No weekends or holidays.
@@naturalenursenadesha7676 can you work 4 days 10 hours instead?
Hi! I am looking to get into entry level- clinical documentation nursing. What kind of cert do I need to obtain? CCDS? CDIP? or anything else?
You would be eligible to take the certification exam after having 2years of CDI experience.
Im a concurrent review nurse for an insurance company. I have an interview today for CDS. This was informative
Awesome. Best of luck. Let me know how the interview goes.
