Well Honestly you should look into any job for a Hospital if thats your interest. Once you work for them for awhile it makes it easier to go to any other position without a degree, I started in EVS. But pretty much any position makes them more likely to want to pay for your certs or overlook a degree when the time comes.

~> Warning, mild rant ahead... ~~> I AM STUCK. I graduated in the year 2000. I did OR, PACU, and Ambulatory Surgery Centers for 9 1/2 years. Loved PACU. Semi-intense, fast moving, only one to three pts at a time, I'd do my magic, fix'm, deliver them, then wave goodbye to the floor nurses knowing the arsenal of standing orders I had will not be available to those nurses when the drugs I gave wear off and they have to get the pts up, every single day, all day, until discharge. I felt bad for those nurses, while I snickered getting on the elevator after giving them report. Sorry!! Then I took about 6 years off to stay home being a Mom. Of coarse now not only do I no longer qualify to even step foot in an OR or PACU, (a new grad has a better chance at landing one of those jobs), I refuse to ever take Call ever again --> I'm 50yrs old and too old for that and just DON'T WANNA take call. SOOOOO.... Now the only thing that I'm "qualified" to do (and I use that term VERY LOOSELY) is Long Term Care. I NOW HATE MY JOB, AND I SWEAR, I AM ALLERGIC TO MED-CARTS, AND I CANNOT, CANNOT, CANNOT handle having 50 freaking patients with very little support. I am not helping anyone! *I couldn't even handle 5 tables as a waitress before nursing school.* Trust me, I would probably fire me if I were my boss in an LTC facility. Which is why I work Agency, NOCs only! And I'm still expected to do medicare charting on pts I've never even seen?? The whole system is broken!! I want OUT! But I'M 50 AND STILL TO NEED TO EARN A LIVING WAGE. Teenagers are expensive and so is everything else these days!! I am a good nurse, but we all have our talents and strengths, and this is not mine. I WANT TO WORK FROM HOME but having trouble figuring out where to start!

Hi! I am an Ob RN for more than 10 years. I already passed the CPC exam and removed my A status via AAPC’s practicode. I still find difficulty looking for a job and some of the agency wanted a FT position and with actual coding experience. Unfortunately, they dont count the practicode as an actual coding experience. I applied several times and even applied for a HEDIS position but still unlucky to get a part time job. Is there any more options that you can suggest because I am beginning to loose hope in a coding world. Thank you.

TFS. I am a 37 year nurse and a CDI. This is not an easy job. You sometimes do need to put in more time regarding meeting your matrices. While I see many commenting below wanting to jump to the next best thing I want you to realize you need to sit put and get charts reviewed coded and “query” the providers so you need to understand that this is not intuitive at all. I have done ICU, trauma, transplant, CCU/ CSU, Case management, UR, Legal nursing, School nursing and now CDI. The learning curve is steep and difficult. No luxury to wait on performance anymore. They used to give you that. Now expectations are swifter and higher. I spend a lot of time educating myself, taking classes and paying for classes. For information look up ACDIS the professional organization for CDIs. It took 3 interviews and passing a test for me to get this post. I had worked in the CVICU at this organizatio for a long time. I work hybrid. I have to sign a contract. Work from home does not mean you can care for kids loved ones it is a serious job that you have to do ethically. I think humanly everyone always jumps at what sounds good next. But I see CDIs come and go because the job requires self discipline and accountability and they do not listen when we tell them that. Im am lucky our program has been in place a long time and we make a serious difference to the bottom line. No I cannot tell you specifics of my work. Sorry. But please do your due diligence before you think you are going to be doing better than you are. This job may not be a good fit or it might. No 2 programs are alike. A lot of contractors and travel cdis lost jobs during the pandemic.

I'm a cardiac rehab nurse. I do have a question, in your video you mentioned sometimes you do education to the physicians as a presentation. That is really the only thing pushing me back from this. I don't do well with public speaking 😕 any type of advice for me? Is it a group of doctors when you present? And is it something you do by yourself or as a group with other CDI nurses? Thank you

I have worked in bedside nursing as an RN doing medsurg and behavioral health for 5 years. Got burned out. I then transitioned to utilization management doing prior authorization for medical and behavioral health review for a managed care company and I have done that for 7 years. It is so stressful . I have worked from home for 5 years and I love it. I have been looking to make a switch to do something else so watching your videos was very helpful. CDI sounds amazing but I am not sure if I qualify for that since I do not have ICU experience.

I'm LATE to the party but I have to say having kids will definitely change the way you do things. I was a RN working nights at a hospital and that quickly changed when I had my kids. I am a RN field supervisor in school health now. In my area the schools use a outside agency to staff their clinics, not very many of the school systems here hire a nurse directly into their schools. I didn't even know School Health NP was a thing. Thank you both for sharing this!
