    Lot's of Mopars there! I would love to get one of those Challengers and fix it up. I used to have a Plum Crazy Challenger back in the day. It had a pistol grip four speed and a built 340.

    I love the old Mopars! Did everyone see the Super Bee? Such great history. Each of these vehicles were the pride and joy of someone driving them for the first time...Wow!

    i went there on sunday, wow was i blown away. out of all the car shows ive been to put together, this guy has more cars. unfortunatly, after having a conversation with Junior (the owner) he said he was getting rid of it all, and he was in the process when i arrived. fortunatly, he knows the value and said hes getting rid of the smaller value and unrestorable cars first. Hes actully a pretty nice guy. Thank you so much for uploading this video or else i would have never known about this place

    I live near here. The state found out about it and gave him one month to get rid of them. After the month was up they came in, took what was left and crushed them up for scrap. This is no BS. It was basically a collection. It was in West Greenwich RI. I live in Cranston. This was back 6 months or so ago. Sad Sad day.

    hard to put into words...those vehicles are proof that there was a proud and strong USA at one time. so many options available on so many different models and makes. my dad (RIP) always said its not right if it doesnt have a chrome detachable bumper.these photos represent more than just a junkyard. RIP classic american muscle, united states, and dad.

    In the 80's, these old 50's, 60's & 70's were VERY inexpensive. They were everywhere and now most have gone due to that stupid cash4clunkers debacle, the prices have sky rocketed. So it's really exciting when someone finds a site like this one.
    Great upload. Thanx for sharing.

    • @frequencyfluxfandango8504

      danbau08 Wow, I was picturing all those cars. I remember in the 80's seeing equally insanely cheap classic American cars for sale in the UK. I didn't have the money back then either. Rare cars for next to nothing, or 'a song and a dance' -as we say here.
      But, KEEP YOUR DREAMS ALIVE ! = )

    I just want to cry when I see this. It's sad and beautiful and I know if I took my husband and his buddies, Steve and Matt, all three of them would take off and I wouldn't see them for a week! I'm only an adopted Mopar girl but I saw several I wanted to take home with me.

    I am a ford man but I am just sure that is the best collection of barricuda back glass I have seen. I'm pretty sure I saw a barricuda bodied valiant in the video too. I haven't seen one of those since the '70,s. I had a customer that had one when I ran a Phillips 66 station back in those days.

      I hate seeing cars like this as well. I saw a Camaro I believe with a Playboy sticker on the back window. I wonder what that car has seen. Some guy was excited to buy it...drove it all over...made out with girls in it. Cried in it...got mad in it....and one day had to sell it. It eventually winds up here. Kind of like people I guess....

    thanks so much for the great video, im in CT, so RI isnt too far. id like to take a day trip out to one or both of these to see what i can drag home. im only 18 but my dad had a reatoration shop that he closed when i was 5 so gas and oil are in my veins. we mess around and flip cars here and there so a place like this would be great for us. these cars might not be the perfect candidates for a restoration, but im more interested in giving them new life than making money. -derek

    The cars of my youth... I had 2 70's and a 71 Roadrunner, a 69 Superbee, a 69 4 speed sport Satellite, a 73 duster, and 2 Fury Cop cars, a 77 ABD an 80... all big block, mostly Pistol Grip, the 80 Fury squad had a 360... best days of my life were spent in those cars, the friends, fun, girls, and life, are sadly, all gone, I'm in the same shape as these great old cars, alone, broken, cold, and waiting to die... damn it hurt seeing those Mopes like that... they were King of the Road in their day, so was I, now they are forgotten, unwanted, and slowly dying, most beyond help. Just like me. Watching this HURT in a Profound way. It was an absolute metaphor for my life. death can't take me soon enough... see ya in the funny papers...

    I am in the UK and have restored several vehicles from conditions not unlike some of the better ones in your excellent film. If we had something like that in our country you would have people in a long queue to get in and rescue them. I am sure a good vehicle could be made from several of the same model (and with that number, there must be more than 1 of each type built since the 50/60s). That yard to us would be an era that must not be allowed to disappear into the picture books - which with the few restored ones would be all nearly 2 generations would know about that period of the American automobile industry.

    I paused this video frame by frame as to not miss anything. It's just so sad. There really is a lot of iron that could be saved and lots of body parts to be pulled for those looking. I just pray they don't scrap all the sixties and seventies big iron just because they think no one would want it. I just love the Chrysler three hundreds and Plymouth Furies. What can I say about the wagons. I just love station wagons. Does anyone know of such places in Missouri or Kansas? I am in Kansas City Missouri. Thanks for putting the video together!!

    This might sound weird, but my 64 Chevy Nova goes in storage soon because of fall and winter here in Minnesota. When i drive it, I feel like I'm a "voice" for all these cars which have pasted on and that are sitting wasting away. Every classic from these Mopars to Buicks to Hudsons and Oldsmobiles. I feel like I speak for them and how if they were human, they would be proud of me to show what GREAT AMERICAN WORK AND LOVE can make. I Want to save these cars, I just wish my generation cared more.

    Looked like a lot of them could be restored. There were quite a few complete cars. It's sad to see them like this, but it's neat in that you don't find a lot of old salvage yards like this much classic metal. Most cars in the lots by me have mostly 90's with very few 80's and some early to mid 2000's.

    You should have asked Junior if you could poke around his 2 other yards with the real good stuff in them and see what he says, lmao. but Harry is a great guy, if he doesnt have the part you need he will help you find it or tell you where to look, there is another old junkyard with about 20 - 30 cars in it near harrys, but there are no roads to it, its behind an old egg store near the Walmart, all around RI are many old yards that only a few people know about. Keep up the good work.

    could you tell me more about the mopar yard? do you think there are any salvageable cars and would one be able to buy a "whole" car and is that a large yard? (would you be able to give me a number estimate?) also do you have any idea what the yards look like now?

  • @DocZoidberg549
    @DocZoidberg549 11 лет назад

    We had a old junk yard near us. The old man who owned it was killed. Cars were stacked 6 high. The farther down you went the older they got. There was nice old cars that got crushed by the ones on top of them. The old timers did not care and rare old cars rusted away. It was such a shame. There was 50's corvettes. After he died they crushed them all. I wanted to cry, I use to explore it on the weekends.

    I am 54 years old . Here in the south I have built alot of cars out of junk ones. The body shops I learned from the men were the best. They made there own tools even and would run you off. They are all dead but one. When one needed to fix a car that was every one would have sold for scrap ? He would call the other men in on the build.I seen cars not be a foot thick from door to door.Everyone in the crash was killed. I walked back in the shop in less then two weeks ? There it would set like not a blimess on her.I would Love the chance to build agan. I am not sure the craftmenship can still be produced today ?

    @thisisunreal1 Thanks Mike! Car whisperer... I like that! I totally agree, if he'd sell them for 50 he'd make a fortune. I mean - 20.000 cars X 50 makes 1 million bucks! It's pretty cool this vid got 625 after one day, I'll try to advertise it so more people get to see this yard. I hope some of the cars will be saved before it's too late. Fortunately, it'll take many years for the government to clear out the yard. There is hope!

    Sadly, alot of these cars cannot be saved. So many MOPARS. My first car was a '72 DODGE CORONET CUSTOM. The a year later I bought an accident damaged Dodge Aspen 2 door. My intention was to drop the rebuilt 318CID and 727 torque flight transmission in that, but that never happened. I was stupid in my younger years. I ended up getting rid of both of them. I was really pissed off for a long time.

    If it were "easy", most of these would all be in perfect condition! I stored my mint-condition classic for only THREE MONTHS during the winter many years ago, and it already started decaying. Believe me, its far from easy keeping these new. Its a monthly battle, as most people with a classic car can attest.

    My folks had a junkyard business for years in Florida . . . where the northern elements didn't rust out the bodies like the ones here in RI. Even so, this was one sad looking junkyard . . . the cars long ago stripped of their running gear and anything else of much value except small parts.
    Then these hulks were stacked to be sold for scrap metal and I guess the price of scrap hit one of those low points . . . followed by the death of the main owner. Folks, I've never seen such a pile of bashed up, rusting crap like that in my life. I'm sure some people might find a few decent little parts but even the prep work on them would be more in labor than they are worth. And, to my trained eye, I didn't see many valuable little parts that hadn't been stripped off probably 40 years ago on any of 'em. How sad . . . hoarders sat on this stuff . . . moved it around on fork lifts until it was all smashed together and now it's not worth the effort to even clear the lot.
    If the land was already completely cleared away, the EPA would probably condemn the land for further use without mega-expensive decontamination costs . . . so the owners just keep it "open" and kick the can further down the road, as they have for decades now. Pitiful.

Ironically, in 1973, my brother crashed his green 68 mustang on the curve on Weaver Hill just before you come to Nooseneck and destroyed the front end! Hmmm.. I wonder... no.. can't be... :-I

      I went back to Rhode Island for a visit in 2017 and tried to find it but there wasn't anybody around so I didn't stay long, I talked to a friend who grew up with my brother ( I'm a very late child, he was 16 years older than me , he died in 2001) and he said after the crash the car was taken to that yard and Jason (my brother) asked him to get some stuff for him while he was recovering. I showed him a still shot from the video and he said it very well could be the car, it looks a lot like Jay's....When I was a small child (6) I remember riding in it, he used to take me to the beach in it . I guess looking back, I'm not surprised that he wrecked it, it was so so fast and could break the tires free easily, but for me , it's full of memories of warm summer days with the windows down, Del's lemonade and me sitting on a pile of boat cushions in the passenger seat ( not very safe. Lol ) with Bob Seger on the radio and not a care in the world.. So, yeah, I guess I'll probably never know if that's THE mustang from all those years ago... but, well..... I'm just gonna pretend that it is...

    So sad to see all those Mopars slowly rust away, I have a 1975 Plymouth Duster Custom, bought it from CA 4 years ago. It will be saved for the future. By the way, who is guy performing the great song, sounds like some Irish guy. I'm from Finland.

    I'm 22, red blooded American, and my daily driver, and only car is a beat up 1975 Plymouth Scamp, and I hate seeing these cars rotting away, instead of people driving them, preserving our history....

      It's funny that Cubans preserve more Americana than Americans. It's quite sad actually :(

    • @christopherlovelock9104
      @christopherlovelock9104 9 лет назад

      +Jake Morris I don't think it is a case of the Cubans are a preservation minded lot. Most of their cars that are American were already either in use by them or left behind when Castro seized power. Since hardly any have been imported since then it has been a case of make do and mend. Even some of those have 'Lada' engines in them which makes them a bit slow, but then the roads leave a lot to be desired so speed doesn't really matter all that much. My friend visited the island a couple of years ago, and if he asked about any obviously out of use, were for sale, he was always quoted a really stupid price, to give an example a 1948 Hudson at $300,000.

    • @jaymoe5.7
      @jaymoe5.7 9 лет назад

      Christopher Lovelock yeah i guess your right, but they look at those cars with a true love and passion, and not to day americans dont, but they have a special appreciation for classic american iron.

    • @christopherlovelock9104
      @christopherlovelock9104 9 лет назад

      +Jake Morris Give me a 'classic' over anything made today, - at least you don't need a computer plugged into them and a university degree to tell you what is wrong. Yes you are right they do look at them in the way you say, - partly because they still can't replace them if they wanted to.

    • @jaymoe5.7
      @jaymoe5.7 9 лет назад

      +Christopher Lovelock Yeah, they truly cant replace any of those cars on that island because of the US embargo on it since 1961 until 2015, they had to find used parts, make their own, or use what would work. Maybe now they can, but they probably dont have the money to ship parts from the US.

    Cars have all been scrapped at the 60 Weaver Hill Road, West Greenwich, RI.... I used to stare at Google Earth and wish I lived closer. Apparently the EPA had an issue with it. Sad.

    • @GavinJLang
      @GavinJLang 9 лет назад

      Brian Hylander It looks like there are still a few out there based on Google Earths satellite images. Definitely cleared out a lot. I might be wrong about them all being scrapped. I'd give a call, if they are still there can you post on here and i can change my post.
