Ahh, this made me sadddd! The sixties was the pride of Americans expressed in the car industry. We all felt it, we all admired these cars, and every time one drives by, we all stop and think about those days, if not just enjoy the view and sound of a sweet street machine as it roars by. Sweet, thanks for this post.
Hey Kyle - thanks for posting this. Although it was painful to see! Plymouths...Fastback Mustangs...good lord. I suspect that since April 2009 - maybe - just maybe one or two or a dozen have been rescued. At least, I'd like to think so.
I saw several rarities that still have potential in this video... The most noted I saw would probably be the 1966 Chrysler Imperial at 0:54, they only built 514 of 'em and that one seems to be in restorable condition. Overall, cardude1111, you're really starting to depress me with all of these photos of rare cars rotting away... :(
man this is the only video I see with 5 mercury cougars in it love them all specially the cyclone man I wish I had shit load of money to have them all restored
very nice video, really worth a story to give these wonderful cars, I always liked an muscle car, shame that in my country there is none, but I'd like to catch me one to restore
When I was 16 in 1981 all the teens drove cars like 71 Mustangs, 69 Firebirds, etc in this condition. The Buy-Here-Pay-Here used car lots were full of them. MY co worker at the Supermarket had a yellow 1969 Camaro with a V-6 he bought for $900.
I was going to post a similar comment about this video but you worded it perfect. Ive seen things like this too often. Good to see other people feel like I do,
After that i dont know where it wound up but i hope it did finally get restored. Getting back to the costs of restorations. I'm almost finished having a 1968 Dodge Dart GT Conv. restored. The Dart is painted 2010 Plum Crazy Purple with a black top & interior, 727 auto on the floor, Ford 9 in. rearend and now has a Supercharged 360, instead of the stock 273. I've spent almost twice what i originally planed on the restoration, but i'm lucky and could afford the extra cost.
i am british and i greatly admire old american muscle cars , give me an old girl any day my car is 15 years old and still going strong, lets hope some of these cars get saved , i would take one in a heartbeat.
At 2:00 a 69 Hurst Olds Cutlass is shown,I'd like to know where that car is,I have a 69 "S" model Cutlass and would love to find that car to restore, any chance you remember where it was and if it could be bought?
my 1965 buick lesabre was a barnfind that i discovered in some old mans garage justt sitting there being used as a shelf. me and my girlfriend are restoring it. bout 905 finished just a little more body work to be done. cant wait to find my net one
that first pic of that cougar is almost like the one at my work we have a 68 cougar xr-7 and its engine was pulled a few days ago so it sits like that it was black but was repainted green like that... well on the outside it looks basically the same except its a rust free body with drag slicks in the back w/o a hood or trunk lid
The very first car, a green 1968 Mercury Couger XR7 GTA, is a very rare car. One sold at Barret Jackson last year for 125,000.00. That is one rare cat worth saving!!!!!
Great video, thanks for sharing. Its upsetting to see all of these classics rotting away, especially the Superbirds and Daytonas. Wish I had the big $$$ needed to buy and restore them. Sad to see these icons in this #4- condition. Where's Jay Leno??????
My parents camaro would be a perfect example on this slideshow. It's a 69 SS with all matching #s sitting in the garage for 20+ years without even being turned over once. It's not really in bad condition at all. Unfortunately due to their divorce they are selling to a friend for $15k, but at least it's going to a good home.
At 2:57, that 1970 Plymouth Superbird, restored, would be worth about $120,000.00, and about $210,000.00 with the 440/6-pack, and if it has the 426 Hemi the price would be at least $500,000.00
Alot of these people that own all these rare cars shown always say that they plan to restore them, but when they find out how much it will cost they more than likley Will Never Have The Money fo a restoration, and the car will forever sit there. I bought a 1970 Superbird with the 440 /6-pack in the mid 80's. The car had been sitting on cinder blocks for about 10 years and had severe body rot. not having enough money to restore it i sold it to a guy who wound up re-selling it again.
most of these cars look like it would be worth it to restore meaning the kind of condition it's in but im not sure about the cars with half of the body parts welding off the car.
@cardude11111 Yea, well not all of these rare classics are saved. I imagine most of those Imperials were crushed during the fuel crisis era, because of poor gas MPGs..
I wish Jay Leno would walk up to all these houses with thousands of Dallors in hand and say here, Ive got the cash and you've got the car. If i had that kind of money, I would buy every car thats rotting away and restore it.. Just so it will be there for future people to see.
Nope i think somebody was trying to make a drag car out of it. Its stripped to bare metal with no motor. My dad had 69 mach 1 and he sold it in 1998 for 14,000. Now its worth around 40,000.
At 1:50 I can see the pipe or that steel...thing...dunno...but i don't really understand how that car can stay at that position...great vid....sad pics...awesome cars
lol rice burners, i gotta 69 charger my grandpa left me when he passed away and let me say, she runs like dream and has left many tuners sitting at the line.
A Shelby Daytona!!!!! you have got to be kidding not to mention the numerous Superbirds I saw just rotting away also a Corvette Stingray.I would only hope that most of these was restored or found a good home.I would trade almost every car I got(Buick Grand National included!) for that Shelby Daytona coupe!
I looked at a slide show about worst mileage for cars, and the new, supposedly great cars are getting worse mileage than the ones we drove in the nineties, from the seventies, and we carried tools because we knew if something happened it would be easy to fix, and we could help someone else, too. So our car was also paid for, and no computer glitches to send us into kingdom come if our brakes failed....
@Bronywithguns870 good man those cars are hard as Hell to find cheap my dad had a green one in a 396 but had to sell it because of my sister was young and my mothers was afraid she'd get shaken baby syndrome that thing would have been mine the cars just bad ass in general
If you have the money like Jay Leno you can have anything restored to perfection. Now for many of us, including me: my advise is find a car you love already restored. Most restored cars aren't going to sell for close to the amount the owner put in it to have it restored including many top dollar sport or ultimate luxury cars. Don't get too weepy over a rusty past jewel, it most times has no future but is ready to be crushed.
66 Imperial yes a very Rare car in deed and it looks very complete too it would make a nice restore project and this car is worth it and being hard to find parts but loos like all there just need alittle tender loving care to get her back on her feet.If I knew where it is I would give 1000 for it in a hart beat its worth 10 times that restored or evern more .
no shit dude i saw a 1966 ford fairlane gt/a just siting in a fild in Katy tx i asked the guy if he wanted to sale it he was im thinking about fixing it im like just sale it all ready
Ahh, this made me sadddd! The sixties was the pride of Americans expressed in the car industry. I wish this video was 2 hours long, I would never get tired watching it.
Hey Kyle - thanks for posting this. Although it was painful to see! Plymouths...Fastback Mustangs...good lord. I suspect that since April 2009 - maybe - just maybe one or two or a dozen have been rescued. At least, I'd like to think so.
oh my god. at 6:33... that car is so rare and worth soo much! one of them sold at auction for like $12 million
damn some of these would make good dirt track/ hobby stock cars thats what we use them for when they are too rough to restore
man this is the only video I see with 5 mercury cougars in it love them all specially the cyclone man I wish I had shit load of money to have them all restored

I would never have thought that there are that many Superbirds left that haven't been restored
Superbirds, Charger Daytonas, Cougar Eliminator, AMX'S....ok.....but a ShelbyDaytona Coupe!!!!!...........DAMN!
After that i dont know where it wound up but i hope it did finally get restored. Getting back to the costs of restorations. I'm almost finished having a 1968 Dodge Dart GT Conv. restored. the white '68, 442 just broke my heart. its heartbreaking for people like me with a passion for these cars....
this brings a tear to my eye
my 1965 buick lesabre was a barnfind that i discovered in some old mans garage justt sitting there being used as a shelf. me and my girlfriend are restoring it. bout 905 finished just a little more body work to be done. cant wait to find my net one
At 34 seconds there is a 1964 Impala SS like mine with a 327 , 4 barrel carbs , dual exhaust and the paint the same as mine. I wish I still had mine
that first pic of that cougar is almost like the one at my work we have a 68 cougar xr-7 and its engine was pulled a few days ago so it sits like that it was black but was repainted green like that... well on the outside it looks basically the same except its a rust free body with drag slicks in the back w/o a hood or trunk lid
1:50 what's keeping the car up like that?
The very first car, a green 1968 Mercury Couger XR7 GTA, is a very rare car. One sold at
Barret Jackson last year for 125,000.00. That is one rare cat worth saving!!!!!
Damn I can't believe people let those super birds rot like that! guess how many were build? maybe 500!!
+babak1969van and you know someone is a fucking loser when they let two of them rot side by side
+gary dunn was less than that made and they are almost priceless now
seeing these cars abandoned is really depressing
Great video, thanks for sharing. Its upsetting to see all of these classics rotting away, especially the Superbirds and Daytonas. Wish I had the big $$$ needed to buy and restore them. Sad to see these icons in this #4- condition. Where's Jay Leno??????

@DrSAAS if im not mistaken i thin thats a Ford Shelby GT 500
My ex-step dad was offered 8 grand for his 1967 Plymouth Belvedere GTX 440. He said no and its still rotting up in a barn.

The white one, what car is that?

it's easy for a person to SAY they've got plans to restore a car, but if you NEVER have the money it'll NEVER happen.
a couple of these still looked nice

That's a damn shame to see those car like that, someone needs to save them.
some of them look like a really good restoration project.
Alot of these people that own all these rare cars shown always say that they plan to restore them, but when they find out how much it will cost they more than likley Will Never Have The Money fo a restoration, and the car will forever sit there. Yea, well not all of these rare classics are saved. I imagine most of those Imperials were crushed during the fuel crisis era, because of poor gas MPGs..
"It's not for sale. I'm gonna fix it up someday".....
Is that a mustang at 6:00?
I wish Jay Leno would walk up to all these houses with thousands of Dallors in hand and say here, Ive got the cash and you've got the car. If i had that kind of money, I would buy every car thats rotting away and restore it.. Just so it will be there for future people to see.
Disgusting, breaks my heart to see these classics falling slowly and painfully.

lol rice burners, i gotta 69 charger my grandpa left me when he passed away and let me say, she runs like dream and has left many tuners sitting at the line.
@evan clobb my brother doesn't know these are pictures from google years ago
Most of these guys who won't sell end up never restoring them. Some pass on before they can enjoy them. A darn shame...
A Shelby Daytona!!!!! you have got to be kidding not to mention the numerous Superbirds I saw just rotting away also a Corvette Stingray.I would only hope that most of these was restored or found a good home.I would trade almost every car I got(Buick Grand National included!) for that Shelby Daytona coupe!

i dont think of it as growing up in the wrong time period, i think of it as were put here to save whats left of them.
some of these cars look like they are being worked on :) im doing my part to keep them alive, 64 impala, and 55 chevy pickup

Hope that Scrambler was just a clone car, because they only made 1512 of them.
i would be pullin those superbirds out..
Robin McElhenney That Imperial at the guitar break would be mine.
