- In this video, Russell Mayes tackles the Jim Morrison of The Doors shag haircut. He uses the Feather Styling Razor with the R-Type Blade to give movement and slight texture to the ends of the cut. The shape is the most iconic shape of the late 60's and 70's but easily modified to modern styles and works well on all textures of hair. It's not a mullet and it's not a bowl cut but somewhere in between!

⭐⭐⭐⭐ I'm aware this is an old video. However, that's the hairstyle I want to get therefore, I'll be taking this tutorial video to my hairstylist. I have long hair below my shoulder blades, and same texture plus as thick as the manikin shown in this video. Thank you for posting.

It looks great! Jim's was more curly/wavy in front especially though. I have the same hair and my bangs always curl upward like his. I am growing my hair out to hopefully look like this when I go get it cut after about a year/ year and a half... we will see! No more clippers

Show them this video a video helps them to better understand the hair you want. and ask them to show u how to style it if you don't have natural poofy/wavy hair.

haha...maybe? At least show a pic. Many barbers are not so technically trained to do haircuts like this unless they normally do long haircuts. Most barbers do more short haircuts.

I have this cut. I do it myself. But I would love to find a great savvy cutter to fine tune it. Hard to find ppl who know terminology and communicate well. Then they actually need skill. Haven’t had much success w that.

Yes the shape will work but your hair won't have the same fullness from the curls and it will look more like David Cassidy from The Partridge Family which is from the same era as Jim Morrison.

Depending on overall thickness you can reduce the amount of hair thickness by texturizing more, but you will have to balance how much you texturize and thin with the amount of waviness and curliness. The more curly the more volume you may get, but you can counter this volume by adding a curl cream styling product to weigh the hair down.
@JataiFeatherRazors is this a unisex hair cut? If so, would it be possible in any way for a woman with wavyish, straight/ slightly curly hair at the front of their hair line to have this hair cut?
This shape can be both feminine and masculine. To keep the shape more feminine, leave the bangs a bit longer and sweep them to one side to keep the hair from getting too round if the hair is super thick. If the hair has too much texture or curl only around the front, control it with either a curling iron/straightening iron or blow it smoother with a round brush.
Didn't work on my hair type ahaha. I wish I'd had thick hair instead of thin hair, but oh well. I'll grow the hair back and go back to the more of a hippie style long hair.

I have a ways to go before I can have my hair this way as I have pretty short hair right now. I'm growing it out from very short shaved in back and sides. It's lookin pretty good but nowhere near this length yet. Once it does I'm gonna get it cut like this. I love Jim's hair. I have the same wave in mine so should look pretty good. My bangs are already to my eyebrow but the back is very short still. I want about to my collar... Been growing for 4 months

Using a razor and gently applying pressure will make the cut softer and different lengths. If you apply a lot of pressure, it would cut a clean, more one length solid line. Also, by cutting the layering the same as the head shape, the layering will be shorter than the overall perimeter length.
