What really annoys me about this franchise is that each game has a strong suit and the perfect game would be a combination of those. Yet, the developers don't use that and it's so frustrating. In my opinion, sims 2 has the best lore and storytelling, which I miss so much. Also, there are so many small details that are utter chaos and it's overall so funny; sims 3 is amazing for gameplay, but I do miss emotions when I play it. I do love walking around the town freely tho. And sims 4 is the best for bulding, plus the emotions system but only if you use mods to make that more fun lmao.

I agree. I wish they'd combine the best of the different games. I understand why people would say it's hard to program like that however if modders can do it...🤷‍♀️ I really wish the gamemakers would work with modders and other cc creators to make the game better. That might help w some of those potential issues. However the main problem I do see with having everything is that it would probably slow the game down like the many mods and cc I install always do😂

Werewolves were in The Sims 2 as well. They came with pets, if I’m not mistaken. It was very difficult to make your sim a werewolf because you had to befriend a wolf and wait for it to autonomously ‘nibble’ you. Also why does no one ever talk about Plantsims?

The pen world really wasn't all it was cracked up to be and the traits were as bad as Sims 4 (you are a dive, so you shower "with flair" same animation and it doesn't do anything). I tried to play Sims 3 again now that I have a better computer because of the hype (it seems to be the fan favorite now) and you can't even bathe your toddler. You spin them around to change the diaper and hygiene goes all the way up. Now imagine if Sims 4 had done that after the toddler patch. Sims 3 is when they started getting lazy. Sims 3 wins for me in a lot of ways, but the one that never gets mentioned is EPIC lifespan and the ability to set a separate span for each age (babies can grow up, but I don’t have to worry about my main character aging out of their storyline). I was honestly terrified of Sims 2 when it came out (playing Sims 1 in my youth) due to the aging; I only started playing it this last year out of curiosity. And the one place where Sims 2 wins for me is romantic interactions, they did do an excellent job with those (cute to steamy).
On a side note, I’ve always found the Sims 3 sims beautiful and have never understood the “pudding face” comments. Maybe I’ve just been lucky in my computers and they could run the graphics at the highest level? But I do agree the spawnies with their middle sliders faces and mud colored hair are pretty blah; whenever I have the time, I have a lot of fun hunting down spawnies and giving them makeovers and back stories so they can become individuals. Some of my favorite sims started their lives as spawnies!😅

    • @mchobbit2951
      @mchobbit2951 Год назад +5

@@ProtoIndoEuropean88 If you want to play rotationally, Sims 3 is just out of the equation too. You need ten million complicated mods to stop story progression and age only the active household just to be able to do what Sims 2 does automatically and what takes two clicks in the game options in Sims 4. And even then you're two, three rotations in and saving takes 10 minutes on a gaming PC. Sims 3 made everything as complicated and convoluted as possible.
I tried playing it again recently because of all of the type how supposedly Sims 4 with all of the patches and DLC juust reached the level of Sims 3 base game and 3 is just so amazing with so much to do and the Sims have sooo much more personality. I have a better PC than I had then and yeah, it runs...for now. But folks must have a bad case of nostalgia because a lot of what they said is just not true. The Sims have so much more personality than in 4? Lol, where? The Sims all felt the same. Sure, there are more traits than in 4 but they are mostly just as if not more useless. You're a diva? So you take a shower "with flair" instead of just taking a shower. Most traits just seem to add more chatting options JUST LIKE IN SIMS 4!
You can't even bathe toddlers in Sims 3. You change the diaper by spinning them around and hygiene goes all the way up. But only Sims 4 is lazy?? Sims 3 toddlers are just slightly above the object baby in 4.
It boggles my mind now how Sims 3 is now the fan favorite. I remember when it came out and how much hate it got. The only one of the sequels that didn't was Sims 2. People pretty much agreed that it was a massive improvement compared to Sims 1. It was a giant leap and added much much more than either 3 or 4. Things like open world and emotions just weren't as groundbreaking as they were hyped up to be.

@@ProtoIndoEuropean88 I like Sims 2 the most too and feel like it's underappreciated and often forgotten. People will scream about how we had this in Sims 3 and now we don't in Sims 4 waa and 90% of the time, it's something that we not only had in Sims 2, but Sims 2 even did it better. Such as a recent comment "Remember when we had REAL STORES IN THE SIMS?" on a Sims 3 video...yeah...I remember when you went there with your Sim instead of staring at a rabbit hole too.
I like 4 more than 3, which I realize is controversial. But if you like rotational play and want to customize the game to play in ways it was never intended to be played in, like medieval words, decades challenges, boarding schools and so on, Sims 2 is the clear winner. I was able to set up stuff like that in 4, but you can't fully do away with everything that breaks immersion. The ugly mismatched townies keep on spawning and no mods stop them (and I refuse to pay a subscription to a mod that supposedly does). I set up a boarding school with a mod and they kept trying to sneak to school. My 1970s kids keep getting those Parenthood character trait cards about texting someone...you don't text anyone, it's 1972!
In 3...forget about it. I feel like you need a degree in technology to just set the whole thing up and you have to do constant maintenance to prevent lag, corruption, story progression fucking up your game and so on. I also wouldn't dare doing a long challenge, like a decades challenge or legacy, in Sims 3. People have managed to play 100 generations in Sims 2. If you don't do stuff like delete graves and bin families, you can keep your save up for a long long time. 4 is better than 3 in that regard, but I don't know if it could manage the overpopulated uberhoods some of us have/had.

    1. Open map
    2. Being able to swim anywhere where there is water
    3. Farming and fishing feels like a game on its own
    4. Cars!!!
    5. More advanced furniture placement and build mode

grocery and clothes shopping is sorely missed in the sims 3 (and 4). sims 2 definitely worked around the restrictions of the world so well. plus in sims 2 you can create your own custom world. I made a city called Melbrook City. it had lots of clubs, corner store, book store, salon, music venues etc etc etc. it sucks you can't really own and run a business in the sims 3. the sims 3 is my favorite to play but I've played a lot of sims 2 too :) amazing games the both

I loved when Sims 3 did Open World and had many events added like prom, teenagers breaking curfew and getting them grounded for a lot of things
Although the lag was what put me off it at times and it constantly refusing to save
But Sims 2 I grew up with for 5 years with the base game, Pets, Bon Voyage and probably another i dont remember
I didn’t get into collecting all the packs until Sims 4
Wasn’t much into the stuff packs of Sims 3 or Into the Future

Inarguably sims 2 and 3 and leagues better than 4, though which of the two is better is down to how you play the game.
I personally like the realism of sims 2. I like that my sims don’t have infinite clothing and have to go shopping to get changed. I like that they don’t spawn with phones, that I have to buy groceries to cook. I like the random features like being able to work on creating a car, or being able to learn how to fire dance on holiday.
But everything I dislike about the sims 2 is fixed in the sims 3. I like sims 3 story progression better, I like the graphics better, I like the expansions better, and I get a bigger hit of nostalgia since it was my childhood game.
I feel like everyone feels VERY strongly about either loving or hating the sims 2 and 3 whereas the reception on 4 is more wishy-washy and all over the place

The Sims 3 might be laggy on lower end PCs but The Sims 2 is such a corrupted game from the first time you play. The Sims 2 has some awesome little game play mechanics that I wish were carried over to the Sims 3 but for me the Sims 3 will always win between the two.

For me, it’s The Sims 2 all the way. I still play it to this day and prefer it to the others.
Worlds: The Sims 2 - you could create your own from day 1 and place houses and community lots anywhere freely, plus those lots could literally be anything and the game would simply adapt around it. Agreed.
Storytelling: Definitely TS2. The lore was incredible and it set you up to get into the stories straight away with the scripted events. (BTW, Daniel’s wife is called Mary-Sue.) Agreed.
CAS: I’d actually have to say TS2. Create a Style was impressive, but no matter what you did in TS3’s CAS every Sim ended up looking the same - generic pudding face. I could only distinguish between them by their hair and outfit. Whereas all of my Sims in TS2 looked completely individual. Disagreed!
B&B: If we’re just talking base game, I am more used to TS2 obviously but I suppose TS3 is better as you can get matching tones more easily. Agreed.
Gameplay: TS2, definitely. The open world never appealed to me because it made the game lag massively. So what if I can see the physical building they’re going to? The wants and fears as well as the memories were far more detailed in TS2 and allow me to let the Sims lead the gameplay (I play a wants-based style). Agreed.
Expansions: TS2, definitely. I don’t use Bon Voyage much because it doesn’t fit with my gameplay style. But I have pets all the time in my families, always go to uni with my Sims (TS2 Uni is the best version in all the games), and Open for Business is the best version of running a business. I also give my Sims an individual hobby for their spare time. TS3 doesn’t have anything quite as appealing for me. Nothing was done quite as well - more packs doesn’t mean better packs. They were smaller and didn’t have as many features. Disagreed.
    Therefore: TS2. Agreed LOL!

My biggest problem with the Sims 3 was the corrupted save files. This game for some odd reason always gets its save files corrupted, so I had an age freezing bug that forced me to start the game all over again, glitches that would mess up my gameplay, and the graphics that would take ages to load everytime I would take my sim elsewhere.
Besides from that I enjoy the sims 3 but with these glitches I prefer to stick with Sims 2 where I never experienced any problems.

I do lean towards Sims 2 but that could be nostalgia. It was my first sandbox game and I spent a decade with it telling stories and building worlds. Nothing Sims 3 came out with was enough to make me try it out.

The Sims 4 takes the RPG elements from the predecessor The Sims 3, and downsizes everything.

I enjoy TS2 very much and there are several aspects in which I prefer TS2 over TS3; but, when it comes to meeting someone new in TS2, you can't just pick a house you want and have your Sim go visit it... Yes, you can meet new Sims online and then your Sim can call them and invite them to come over, but it's impossible for your Sim to go visit anyone, unless you turn things around, play as that other household for a litte while and invite your main character to go visit them. That part about TS2 sucks very much, as well as the fact that, in case you get tired of playing in the same neighborhood, you can't just move your main character(s) over there, the way you can do it in TS3, but you'd have to start that new neighborhood and pick a whole new household to play as, or create a new one... Like I said, that part also sucks about TS2.
Also, in TS3, there are options, such as: clicking on a building (f.e. a hospital) and choosing an option for your main character as to that hospital. What exactly he/she needs to go to the hospital for, getting a job there, or to cure a disease? Those options don't exist in TS2 either... 😢
Nevertheless, TS2 still is a great game that is superior to its successor in several ways and its legacy will live on!

I'm biased towards Sims 2, because that is the main game I played the most and got me into the franchise in the first place. I love the small details in the game and the autonomous reactions by the Sims. The wants and fears system was superb and I simply don't get why the fears were slashed in 3 and completely scrapped by 4. When it comes to addons I tend to find more in 2 that I really like, while a lot of Sims 3 addons are like "Okay, but why would I want it?" for me. I loved Bon Voyage in 2, but couldn't get bothered with world adventures, despite both being the vacation themed expansions. But that's the thing: I liked the vacation aspect in 2. It really was build around Sims being on a vacation instead of going into quests constantly. You also got benefits from having a good vacation signifying your Sims being well rested.
Also the ability to make custom neighborhoods with templates. Yes, Sims 3 does have a program to make neighborhoods of your own, but it has an extremely steep learning curve. The apartments in 2 are also superior, because you can actually build apartment buildings of your own and visit your neighbors.
There are things in 3 that I think are better, though. The ability to set how your Sims are doing their job for instance or having more freedom to place cars on the lot (and bikes!). I'm also slightly more inclined towards the trait system of 3, even though the personality system in 2 was quite in-depth. Also I like that there are more lifetime wished that can be chosen in CAS. I prefer 3's skill system as well, since it has a lot of different skills, particularly for creative hobbies, while 2 only has the creativity skill.
... but then again: Sims 2 doesn't try to murder my CPU while playing. Opne world sounds neat and all but was extremely unoptimised.

I give my vote to The Sims 2. Part of this is because I have only played The Sims 3 for a few minutes, but the reasons I only played The Sims 3 for a few minutes (maybe an hour) is because of my preference toward the way things are in The Sims 2.
Before I expand on that, The Sims 2 did have werewolves. They came with Pets.
As for my thoughts, a lot of the “features” of The Sims 3 were negatives in my book. Open world? I found this concerning and no one could ever convince me otherwise . . . and they still haven’t. Not sure if anyone has tried, but I’ve mentioned it many times before, even directly asked people about it and yeah, it still sounds like a bad idea to me. Color wheel? Sounds like a pain. Create-a-style kind of looks good, but not the color wheel. I like the way The Sims 4 has things now, for skins anyway . . . I’d like them to do that for hair and eyes, too, but I just want sliders, not a whole wheel. “More realistic sims” or as you put it, pudding people. Yeah, I’m not sure I could handle the graphics for all that long.
Now, to be fair I have been tempted more than once by fairies, but whenever I consider it, I look at the cost of buying this game in its entirety and nope out. No thanks. Likewise, after hearing people talk about it so much, I did get curious about the Generations pack and it does sound genuinely like a good pack, but ultimately it’s the only pack that The Sims 3 has that I actively care about (since fairies is just one part of a pack), so The Sims 2 wins packs for me. Well, technically it wins everything and modern means nothing to me. Nothing I have is modern anyway.

My daughter only played sims 4, which is such a bad game and I finally got her into 3 so now she gets why I hate 4 but I was trying to explain to her that when 3 came out we complained about it too but the difference is eventually we migrated over and now I couldn’t even remember what we were complaining about but Sims 4 is 9 years later and I can’t get into it and remember clearly all my problems with it.
Lack of stories, long loading screens, and also rabbit holes was I think my main issues with 3. I have zero faith that Sims 5 will be anything but trash. I’ll stick with 3 forever 😂

Zombies actually came with university which was only possible with the Resurrect-O-Nomitron career reward if you pay 988-4127 simoleons to bring back a deceased sim. Free time added zombies as a negative outcome for wishing to bring a sim back from the dead and in apartment life as an evil spell which witches can bring dead sims back which both these methods don’t cost simoleons. Zombies were first introduced to series in Livin' Large when sims lose to the grim reaper when pleading but weren’t as good as the sims 2 as they just act as normal sims just without personality points.

Despite being closed world, I think Sims 2 is more similar to Sims 3 than either 1 or 4.

i'm in a dilemma right now. i've been thinking of buying ts3 but I am leaning more towards ts2's cutscenes, little details etc. but I really like how ts3 has an openworld map.i need help on deciding which I should get

Both games are missing each other details and they are both great but for me I personally love the Sims 3 gameplay more and sims 3 overall so obviously I would recommend the sims 3 but people have different opinions so you can maybe watch some more vids and search about both then you can decide! If possible you can get both lol but that's just my opinion so it's up to you!

After watching this I'm so over the sims 3 lol I never played sims 2- wish I could! Personally open world is not all that great, hear me out, if you just go to mostly rabbit holes.. and grocery shopping and restaurants. Yeah sims 3 has those but grocery shops are rabbit holes and restaurants in sims 3 are not the same. You can sit down but it's not the same functionality as from what I've seen in sims 2. I've never played sims 2 yet so this is from what I've seen and I think I prefer it more. Also sims 2 has so many options to choose personality with the points you put into the 5 (or 6?) traits. Which doesn't seem as much however sims 3 you only get technically 5 (or 6 I think with a special add on feature?) traits which also kind or include "hobbies"... where as sims 2 you can go into a panel and choose so many hobbies. I don't know I haven't even played it but it just seems so much more immersive. Sims 3 is okay I played it strictly for years but I never even played the premades! I always made 1 sim and played a legacy sort of but I never even got more than 1 or 2 generations at most and I'd get bored. I did try playing with some of the Sunset Valley premades but again it just felt dull since it's the same (as making my 1 sim to play, you know?). That's how it was for me at least. But now since I've discovered rotational play through sims 2 players on here I see how that would work out so much better. Even for sims 3 for me I think playing the premades rotationally would be so much better. I want to try sims 2 😊 I really like generations in sims 3 from what you said I actually never got it myself and University but again I think sims 2 university might be better? I'm not into supernatural (although to be fair I never did get the expansion) and considering I love sims 2 university from what I've seen AND open for business I think sims 2 wins that for me, even. Sims 3 ambitions was okay but at the time and now that I see open for business in sims 2 ambitions seems underwhelming. Like being a firefighter is not that great. And the ghost hunter job... I do like the interior designer one but sims 2 open for business you can sell anything you can make a furniture store! And you can always roleplay another sim as an interior designer technically. So ambitions is alright but at the same time kind of underwhelming to me. Now yes sims 3 supernatural is not bad but again for me it doesn't play much so sims 2 is even more appealing... but I might never play it (just for personal reasons).. wow my post is long yeesh

Sims 2 was my first Sims game. So many memories of drowning school bullies in pools and building mansions for my Sim self. I never could get into 3 personally.

Well it's your opinion. But you were wrong about the Sims 3 trait system. Traits actually did impact the Sims and their actions. A coward sim fainted when he saw a burglar. Evil sims will laugh maniacally. Slobs will fart. You probably haven't played the game enough

To me, private school is such a minor thing that I would never ever use it as one of the reasons why Sims 2 is better.
I also can't agree with the cutscenes. Not only they would be annoying (in my opinion) in 3, because you have sims all over town and I don't want to be interrupted by some cutscene happening across the map, but also they barely impact the overall gameplay.
