    In this video we take a previously unfired (by us) Chinese Type 53 to the tower and break he back in at 600 yards. The results are quite surprising for a Mosin carbine variant. Stay tuned, much more on the way.

    Holy Crap that's a beat up T53!! I have one in Excellent condition and I use it as one of my main hunting rifles. It is insanely accurate. I do use high power hand loads with good quality projectiles either Hornady or Sierra!! I also have an M44 in Mint condition. I put 20 rounds through it to test it actually worked and was sighted in then mothballed it!! Sacrilege to shoot a rifle in the kind of condition as it would have been coming off the production line but I did have to make sure it worked!!

  • @satguy27
    @satguy27 6 лет назад

    Happy 4th, in my experience with this rifle, I have the 1954 edition of this T53 and mine hates bear claw brass and steel case ammo. I've had the same issue at 600 yards as Eric. Granted given my crap eye sight, I cheated and took off the rear sight for the drop in pictany rail and put a Tasco optic on it. Now it holds zero and if your using the steel lacquered, Yugoslavian silver tips, you can hit target 9 times out of 10 all day long. My rifle was used rather well, had to redo the wood stock and fix old age to make it snug again, but it's very reliable and almost perfect bore. It keeps great accuracy with Milsurp ammo, but with hot loads above that, accuracy at 600 plus yards, good luck. At 850 yards, Milsurp ammo is your best chance, again in my experience with said rifle. Great show guys. Also check under the steel buttplate and see if your stock has swastikas in it, mine has 2 under the buttplate and 2 under the top hand rail.

    I grabbed 4 of these bad boys back when Bud's had them for $110 bucks. One was all matching. All had nice bores and one even had a decent stock. I wish we knew the history of these.... I think they came from Albania along with the military Chinese SKS's. What they did there and where they were before Albania, nobody seems to know.
    Brown Bear....I always wonder how these different 54r rifles would do with some handloads but I know Eric is probably so busy these days he doesn't have a lot of time to reload. I've never been impressed with ANY commercial 54r ammo, even match PPU and 600 yards is realllly pressing something like Brown Bear. Best loaded ammo I've shot in 54r is the old corrosive surplus match in the white and blue boxes, unobtanium these days but Grafs sold it up until about 2 years ago. Amazing stuff.
    Usually I shoot .312 Hornady 174gr match bullets with 4064 or 185gr .312 cast and Reloader 7. Sierra .311 MK's are good but most of my large fleet of Mosins like the .312 Hornady better.

    I love my M44 carbine. I wonder if retracting the bayonet would have affected it at 600 yards? It would have been interesting to compare.

    IV8888, you need to seriously do a No.1 MkIII, a No.4 Mk1, and Mk2 at 600 yards one of these days. You already made the video of the No.5 Mk1 at 300, now time to test its older cousins at 600 yards please!

    Two dear friends of mine lost their home and all their belongs back in November of last year, including all their hunting rifles, shotguns and handguns save the two revolvers they had in their possession when the house burned (they were at work). Thankfully their insurance paid off, eventually, and they were soon under a roof of their own again in relatively short order. Since funds were tight for the most part the husband and wife team went in search of a deer rifle that would not break the bank and ended up with two Chinese Type 53 Mosin carbines for just under $300.00 total not counting ammo cost. My friends took three really nice meat deer each which filled their new freezer nicely. All six deer were one shot kills at just over 300 yards over arsenal iron sights.

    That Mosin is good to 750 yards all day long, with the right ammunition. Cheap, inconsistent loads will give you exactly that; one shot high, next low right etc. load some Sierra 200 Gr with decent bench rest primers and you'll see very improved consistency.

    The M44 was used in Korea and after the Chinse built them calling them the Type 53. I have a 1946 M44 that was used in China (with the production of the SKS and the AK that's the only logical war zone it could have gone to... It has battle scars)

    Were these sighted in with the bayonet extended as well as the other Mosin? I have an M44 but I usually don't shoot it with the bayonet extended. It's a tack driver out to 250yd for me.

    This demonstrates how the skill level of the shooter is far more important than any subjective measure of the quality of a firearm. Oh, and never under estimate the viciousness of an angry beaver.

    I can consistently hit a plate the size of a dinner plate (or just under the size of a persons head, let alone centre of seen mass) at 500m with mine. They are crazy accurate with meticulously loaded ammo!! That bayonet is messing with the barrel harmonics and stuffing up all your shots!! Plus the hotter it gets the more the groups are going to spread. You need to give it a chance to cool down for the long shots.
