Stupid question but is pin 86 and 85 common terminals for power and ground or will they be different on different relays 86 power or 85 ground or reverse or different number ?
does the continuity damage your multimeter if ur relay connect to the battery cuz i watch many video said that ohms sitting will damage your multimeter if test something has connected to battery ???
Is it necessary to hook 12V Power to the Relay.... to see if we have continuity?.... wouldn't just touching whichever two prongs...are appropriate.... show a reading on the multimeter for Cont?
Everything in this vid was full and complete. You dont know how a relay works. Maybe you should listen more and go look at his other vids he was talking about. Good vid DIY autotech
I can see how that proves it works ,but it doesn't prove how good it will conduct current across the bridge. I have seen relays click but they failed to deliver current to the load. A ohms meater only shows contanuaty. I would like to see u use a 20 to 30 amp load. Most automotive relays are rated at 10 20 30 amps.
You are truly in the realm of “Rocket Scientist”. I don’t recall my 3rd grade science demonstration using such amateur language. Apparently “cross the bridge” = closing a N.O. contact.
The relay you show is an SPST (single pole single throw). When diagnosing an SPDT (single pole double throw) that has 5 terminals : 85, 86, 30, 87 are as usual, and 87a for NC (normally close), I guess the steps are quite similar, right ? When activating an SPDT relay, I expect we will hear the sound going from NC contact to NO contact. Btw, can we use a Test Light instead of multimeter for inspecting continuity/connectivity on those contact terminals ?
The headlight relay in my Yamaha xs1100 is out (I think) attaching a new one: power wire to 86, ground wire (black) to 85 doesn’t activate the relay. Attaching the blue wire to 85 while power is attached to 86 does though. I’m so confused. 🤷🏽♂️
Hi Anthony…. What causes a relay to heat up and and not work. I have a fuel pump relay on my merceds benz 1998 ml320 and its always been a problem. They last but only for a short time before i have to replace it again. I replaced the fuel pump and would like to know if you can help? thx
+Henry Cagle A video on that will be coming shortly. However in a nut shell if it's getting hot then too much current is trying to flow through the circuit. Pull the relay and volt/amp test pins 86 and 30 and see what the reading is. Hopefully will have my amperage and voltage draw videos up soon for you to review.
In short, you have to have voltage available to test a relay. In order to assure source voltage is applied and grounded through pins 30-87, you need to have reference voltage and ground for pins 85-86. Without these 4 aspects available, you will not have the relay ground (and thus, you cannot test if it works or not). I hope this is not too confusing, but if it is, please watch the rest of my electrical diagnostic videos. Or, rewatch this video a few times to get the idea. You can always try to use a smaller 9V battery to perform this test as well. Thanks for watching, Anthony Sardegna, DIYautotech
Maybe i missed it but the numbers have no meaning for me. I would not know where to put the leads from the numbers he keeps mentioning.
silrak 7 if you will look on the relay where the pins are the pins have numbers beside them!
I my car relay keep kicking even when I drive, could be the problem of my car stalling when I drive?
Came to learn about relays, leaving to go watch the humpty dance video
Thank you Anthony! You explained the pin numbers and what they do better than any other video I have watched. Very well done!
My turn signal relay only have number one to five. It doesn’t have 85 85 87
you lost me at 141 did u disconnect negative again?

Thanks dude! Helped me find a faulty relay on my motorcycle!

jordann flat yes dont do what he just did with the multimeter. You should never at any point send voltage to an ohm meter
My thoughts
Ehh not completely true... Is amps on voltage setting that is bad....

Should not need power to check resistance.

good day
does power relay sounds simply shaking it
because my iornbox has one.not working for a week.i am checking power relay its sounds
thank you

Nice video great job
Amazing Anthony for helping me because I have a test tomorrow
Good video thanks for sharing 👍
I enjoy your videos, thank you. Please provide a diagram of this relay. Thanks.
A true test would include powering something for a. Given time.

Relay has some connection when horn stop working ?? tell me
Can a bad relay cause a check engine light to come on??
But how do we know which is power pin ???????
87 is almost always power
My relay doesn't have 86 or 87. My pins are numbered 1,2,3,4.
Correction, 1,2,3,5
r u not supposed to put power to an OHM meter?
Nice
Thanks Nice video
Bhai apko hindi ati h
Can you use a battery charger for this?
Ya. My EFI relay on 4runner has no numbers. but thanks anyway
This guy should have read the script first😒
I appreciate but hate electricity
isn’t 30 a ground

Same difference, just reverse travel of power
Can we put a relay of high voltage in bike than the required 1. Is there any negative point.
Great video👍
Why would the relay be intermittent?
The last few connections were not at all clear. I got quite a little fireworks display.
Toro Castano lmao
Thanks. Short n direct unlike the other 10 kin videos
stop putting stupid things before the talk starts
Does it matter which pins your meter leads go to?
Thank you

+DIYautotech super!
when replacing a relay in engine fuse box, is it necessary to have the negative terminal disconnected from the battery?
crosshair
...not really but the best practices is to disconnect batt - cable..
can you show how to test without a battery
how do we know how many amp beings relay
Pretty good!!!
Thank you 🙏🏽 unlike other channels who spend 18:36 testing a relay with a whole lotta talking you get straight to the point I APPRECIATE your channel
dude this is an AUTOMOTIVE relay - watch your title
