Recovering my STUCK 5 ton army truck from peanut butter mud...and then disaster strikes!

- Just another average day in my life. We headed out to recover a stuck 5 ton with another 5 ton wrecker recovery truck. The recovery went suspiciously easy until BOOM...the wrecker sinks! This is real, raw, and unscripted content documenting what actually happens to us on a regular basis.

Should have called Matt’s Off-road Recovery! Lol.
I don’t think the Cherokee would have been enough for this one 😂
@@Drewster-pi9cu “well get em out” lol!
Yeah, Matt’s off-road been doing it for years. Made me buy an XJ and a kinetic rope. Lol.
Lol he literally posted right above you! 😂
Exactly what I was thinking 😂
When the yankum rope was mentioned, matts off road recovery was the first thing I thought of.
"Why did the Subaru break were you driving responsibly?" Hunter just shakes his head no like a little kid....
I love how you guys are not animals or cowboy types when it comes to recovering and not trashing the neighborhood, so to speak.
Hans slipping on the step was funniest part! 😂😂😂😂
Yup
lol ya 7:50
Today, April 27, 2021. I found this channel, and I am excited to anounce it is my new favorite channel. I am going to like and comment on every post from today, Unitl 10 Million. Mark My Words!
Right there with ya!
After 1000's of recoveries I can say with confidence that those kinetic snatch ropes/straps are by far the most effective way to recover in a situation like that. As long as the recovery vehicle can build up some speed and the stuck vehicle isn't on the verge of falling off a cliff or something, those snatch ropes almost always work the best.
They even work great with light recovery vehicles pulling out heavy ones. I've used my 1-ton 7,500lb Chevy square body to pull out a 75,000 lb loaded 18-wheeler and the whole tractor was down to its axles in mud. To make matters worse my truck was on wet, sheer ice and I didn't have my chains on. To get the 18 wheeler out I backed right up to it and accelerated all the way at the verge of spinning (with axles& center locked, Detroit's front&rear). The guy driving the 18 wheeler said it felt like that was the fastest acceleration that 18 wheeler had ever experienced when that 80,000 lb rated bungy tightened up and finally got him out. The scary part for me was I would get up to about 40 mph, smoothly go from that to zero over about 4 feet (as there bungee tightened) and then be sprung backwards at what felt like 40 mph back towards the 18 wheeler. The first few pulls didn't get him all the way out and I feared I was going to spring back all the way into him. Pull #3 got him all the way out of the mud and back up on the road.
The recovery shown here you could have left the Subaru on the bed and pulled the 5-ton out using a 1-ton pickup with a good kinetic recovery strap.
I find as long as the recovery vehicle can get up enough speed that you can pull out something that weighs about 10x the recovery vehicle using an appropriately sized kinetic strap.
Using a winch on the other hand you need to tie the recovery vehicle to a tree or something for anything even close to the same weight.
So anyone ignoring that hilarious quote from the attorney "it's not Murphy's law, it's Spark's law" lol
All my years of off-road recovery, I have learned you never say your done till the trucks are parked, and the drinks are poured. Soil/terrain is dynamic, all ways changing.
I found this story quite by accident but....I do a LOT of photography out on the island and I have seen these vehicles in the quagmire next to the causeway several times and even stopped to take a few images, all the time wondering what the real story was. Now I have some insight into it.
I was so intrigued by it, I couldn't stop watching it until the end! Thanks for sharing it.
You guys seriously get me through some serious depression. You're freaking inspiring and get me out of the house and doing something! Thanks for being badass mofos 🤙
Heck ya dude, keep at it man
agree 100%... Keeps me sane bro
The content is off the chain after a long day of work I can sit here and enjoy watching y’all
Yet another serious advert for Yankum. Quality ropes. Worth EVERY DAMN DOLLAR!!!
We use Yakum ropes at home. 2-1/2" rope pulls out our loaded 80' air drill with 1200 bushels on board. Add the weight of a quad track 600 and you have close to 180,000lbs of dead weight. That rope has pulled it out more than a dozen times in the last 3 years of use
Donating the island back to the state is a STANDUP move brother.
As a heavy tow truck operator I wish I could have been out there with you guys during the recovery
I sure ought to get me a wrecker in addition to my 5 ton. Sure are great trucks! Great Recovery
Casey your as bad as rest of us who subscribe to your channel cant help but watch a good recovery but for you it's a training video for us it's just a addiction
@@aaronmcconnell7358 ya never stop learning that is for sure.
I'm a big fan of you brothers. I identify a lot with these "adventures" which in turn makes everyone involved well.
I've spent two years inside the Amazon jungle panning for gold. We didn't get rich but the life experience was very rewarding. You make us stronger, giving more value to the things in life. That's it brothers brothers!!!
FAN FOREVER!!!!
💪💪💪💪💪💪
You’re right… I wasn’t ready for the “Law Father” 😂😂😂 too good!!! 😂😂😂
I like the way you are not quick to blame people or point fingers because something goes wrong. I was hoping that grave robber would show up sitting in one of your vehicles to get a ride off the island.
I love the fact that your being prepared and improvising, adapting, and over coming any situation... that’s what the Boy Scout program taught me
The key to kinetic recovery ropes (and recovery straps) is to size it properly. Bigger is NOT better. The proper size will stretch properly and reduce strain on the vehicles.
Hunter is rocking the best mullet ever !!
JUST A NUTHER FUN FILLED DAY FOR A BUNCH OF BIG KIDS IN A HUGE SAND BOX HAVE 20TONS OF FUN🤣🤣👍👍👍👍
This was really impressive watching these vehicles doing what they do best! Pure muscle 👌
You are a blessed man to be able to be so generous. Judge a man by what you see not what you hear. I'd say your character is never in question.
I'm glade y'all made it home that night
Were you aware the old Desert Magazine ran several articles about Fremont Island in the late 1930's? A family of Anglo settlers lived on the Island in the late 1800's. The Desert articles were about that family. If you want the articles, let me know and I will dig them out and send them to you. I admire your efforts to preserve the Island. Shows the kind of quality person you are.
You guys rock, even though there is stupid shit going on, we need more people like you guys. Be safe
Watching older videos I've missed and its clear the progression you guys have made as a channel, as well as keeping to being yourselves always.
Love the vids!
I was on Freemont Island in 1984 when the lake was very high. Me and I friend sailed 28 foot mariner sail boat in 80 MPH winds out to the East side of fremont island to get out of the wind coming from the West and set an anchor. I inflated a 2 man raft and paddled to the shore of the island and went for a hike. Went back to the boat and cooked some steaks and for dinner. We decided to sleep there for the night. During the night the wind changed and came from the East and and we were pulling hard on the anchor. At 3:00 in the morning in a hell of a storm, high winds and rain, we motored the boat on is diesel engine and managed to pull the anchor out going hard into the wind. We motored around to the East side of the island to find a wind sheltered anchorage, which we found.
The next day was pristine and we navigated to gull island and Stansbury before returning to the marina.
Another awesome recovery. Thank you for all the showing of the wet mud causing the sinking of truck. I have always been fascinated with mechanics and how engines work. I helped my kids dad rebuild a 1982 Mercury Marquis engine in the late 80's. He told everyone that if I had his strength, I'd have been a better mechanic than he was because I understood everything back then. Lol. I may be old but still love all this.
Dave, make your own snatch ropes by weaving military surplus conetic nylon drop straps together. Awesome strong and effective as hell.
So glad you guys are vlouging ! I've just been rewatching diesel powers season . So perfect! I don't have to wait so long for new content!
7 miles is a long walk of shame
You guys are bad ass nothing but making people smile what stand up guys
I love Utah. I Wish i can go back and raise my son there. Its such a beautiful place. Nice people. Money isn't right or I would be there right now. I pray that I'll be back there soon.
Wow... sure do love the special feeling of finding out my husband went on a dangerous helicopter rescue mission when his words to me were, “I’m just working with Sparks.” SMH. Time for me to fill out the kids BYU college applications as his punishment. ❤️😂❤️🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️❤️
You’re an evil wife. LOL 😂. Make him do them twice.
Savage! Ha!!
Your lawyer is the coolest lawyer in the world...
That’s an impressive rope and you guys are brave to even try it. Great job
I felt like I was back in rigging class listening to you talk about pulley powers.
Good to see a man pursuing his dreams and staying humble, not an easy balance.
Sick content, keep em coming fellas!
"Spark's Law": "It might be hard, but we'll handle it"! Spark's Law Exponent: "Eventually"!!
Every sand box kid loves this stuff! It's fun to live the sand box fantasy vicariously through this content! I appreciate the display of humility - to acknowledge the impact of civilization/consumerism, and the importance of land preservation/conservation. I will never forget the moment I observed the curvature of the earth from a fall golden hour perspective on a short hike to Stansbury peak. We can pick apart and rebel against the politicization of issues like global warming to the grave, but our collective human impact on ecology is as real and delicate as our food and our bees...the marketing industry does not care - live within your means, define your needs, and lead on, because freedom isn't free and the Matrix is trying to win.
Should’ve yanked the Subaru with the Side-By-Side using the Kinetic rope!!
Heavy D is starting to look shredded
Beautiful sun set. Y'all did a great job.
I have never liked tow ropes, But that one there that your all used Impressed the hell out Me!
Watch Matt's ofroad recovery thats all the ropes he uses
RUclips in it’s infinite wisdom ran a YANKUM ROPE commercial with MATT at MATTS TOWING AND RECOVERY.
Hunter, thank you for helping make a Great video. I know this video is 7 months old, so I know you get to stay around to entertain us in the future. 🤟
I commend your attitude about the preservation of that island. There is not as much "wild" land as there used to be anymore....
Can’t wait to see what y’all got going on in the shop!!
How did he get the Subaru on the truck by himself the first time without the crane?
This is like another ridiculous history channel program
Tilt bed on the 5 ton and they have a winch in the bed just dragged it up like a rollback wrecker
Was wondering about that myself?
My grandpa had three of them! One -22 degree day we couldn't get anything going, too cold! He jumps in one of his 6x6's warms it up and proceeds to try and drive it away! After discovering he was frozen to the ground, he rams it in first, then R, and back ,and forth till it pops loose! took fist size chunks out of the tires! all of them! Good ol military tires are still on it!
Yankum Ropes for the win. Truly amazing what these kinetic ropes can do.
I see Matt's Offroad recovery has seen this video. It's his channel that showed the kinetic rope.
I feel like you need Matt's off road recovery in this episode 😄
I had heard that story about Baptiste before, but never heard the actual story. Thanks. And the Yankum rope is amazing!
Hans trying to look all cool and falls INTO the truck!! OH Way to keep that in the vid!
Damn your life is insane! Loving these vids! Keep it up!
Yankum ropes are awesome Matt's offroad uses them.
What a bunch of planned filming. Good job Hunter for giving us content.
Good thing the Momentum never gets stuck.
I wasn’t ready for the law father. 😂
The true engineering test
You guys here way toooooo much FUN!!!🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
I always looked forward to more island content on your Instagram stories, so happy you put it on RUclips!
Yankum ropes are the strongest type of rope out there !!!
"They just work "
I Learned about Yankum ropes from : (RUclips channel) Matt's offroad recovery!
Utah located business
This video from diesel Dave using the Yakuum ropes is Impressive!
They are the best the only downfall is the more ropes you have together the less effective they are
Should have called Casey's Off Road recovery to use his 5 ton
That's a Amazing place! The Rope is Incredible!! 👏 Great Job! That saved alot of time ,not having to pull the main line back and forth to 2 part and 3 part with snatch blocks ! Great Job cleaning this Island and keeping it Environmentally friendly !!!
Thanks for the ridealong ! Lol ! The ghost of John Baptist ..... time to haul butt out of there!!!!
CHALLENGe!!!!! Camp out there the whole night, roughing it. Atvs and tents. Maybe a paint ball war. It would be a awesome segment.
I'm just glad these dudes decided they don't need massive sleeve tattoos to be men.
Sounds like someone was bullied by someone with a tattoo sleeve... why you worried about another man? sus as fk
@@jmanownz985 Nope, JC, just we were born that way; why screw it up? besides, cant be good sticking ink under your skin.
It's maybe worse than sucking smoke into your lungs; most of it at least, exhales.
Tattoos and smoke I'm in
Sounds like someone's afraid to live their own life and just wants to be another sheep
This is the most talking I’ve heard in a video ever. But o well
I was thinking the same, this could of been an awesome 15 minute video
@@dobledekersoulwrekr I think he put out a very lot of information in one long video instead of 2 or 3 small videos
Yankum rokes are excellent, learnt that from matt's offroad recovery.
Def something you don’t want to keep lost!
Is i me or anyone else can’t stand the way he talks and acts
Think they're pretty nice guys honestly
@Random Dude because I love Dave's ass
Im with you lol...he act like everything he says is ancient wisdom of pure gold haha ...He is still somewhat likable though.
@@davidmorgan1872 the more I see him just kinda out of the spotlight like the stuff he did up in the Abandoned ghost town and Whistlin diesel he's pretty cool
Man you so right about that red rope very impressive I used to work in the oil field we used to run 10,000 acres and sometimes 25 2 + acres for labor charges delete pipe in the Gulf of Mexico when you when you ain't got nothing to hook up a winch to a good saying anchor buried in the ground gives you something to dip when it's off of that won't come up and hit the vehicle saying Acres always have to be trip from the backside of the anchor to flip it up out of the sand after it digs in can pull a whole lot of weight off of it imagine a lie barzilay in 36 inch pipe pulling yourself along the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico the same concept for your big recovery vehicle would be to add an anchor to it when you ain't got none too wet on but that type of vehicle you going to have to build a big saying acre or find one big enough for the job appreciate the great content keep up the good work and by the way that red rope how big around is it and could it be braided together with other big red ropes would make it really really strong LOL
Happy to see Matt off road recovery linking up with every D sparks
Drove the 5 ton wrecker for a few years in the Marine Corps. Always loved the 23 1/2 ton lvs also. Recovered a d-6 track dozer in S Korea for the seabees while I was there. Good times.
I feel you brother , I would rather have it & not need it, then need it & not have it !!! Take care & God bless..
I worked in a peat bog and we were always having to pull our front loaders out. Our trick was to use a long cable run from solid ground and pull it in the middle like a bowstring with a 3rd vehicle. BOOM Shakka Lakka Lakka!
Wow!! Didn’t think the Yankum snatch ropes would work so well on vehicles that big. A true testament to how good they really are.
Your sense of environmental responsibility is admirable!
(You found FRESH water wells in the middle of Salt Lake??!! WOW!)
HeavyD watching for your struggling as you prep for recovery, I keep thinking about how wonderful it would be to have the mixer frame set up as " recovery tool box"!!!
That tug rope was kickass!!!
Man! Great job getting the 5 ton out! Y'all are beasts!
Matt's off road recovery in Hurricane Utah uses the yankum ropes all the time. They work awsome. Saving my money for one!
Ron Pratt with Midwest Truck Towing & Recovery in Missouri has a couple of those ropes and he loves them.
I used a 1952 1/2 ton Chevy pickup on an icy road in Alaska with a 50 ft 3/4" nylon rope to pull a 2-1/2 ton flatbed loaded with 6 cords of green birch logs. The flatbed had the pass side deep in a 4 ft ditchfull of wind blown snow. Went to the end of the rope at 15 mph. The flatbed just jumped out of the ditch due to the kinetic energy stored only tow rope I will ever use
We’ve used those big ropes on the farm to pull loaded silage truck out of the sand and mud. All of our silage trucks are Semi’s. Loaded weight gets close to 100,000 lbs..
I like that you are working to donate the island back to the State
Always learning new things from the best.
love the consistency with the military vehicles
That yankum rope was awesome!
That recovery rope was insane
Easy peasy. When I saw the kinetic rope being used on one of my fav channels. I bought one to keep in my truck.
You guys rock, I love your videos Heavy D and Diesel Dave,! Thanks for sharing and I can’t wait to watch the rest of your videos guys! 🤙🏻🤙🏻👌🏻
I've literally been watching this channel for 5 hours straight now...
