@@mikesmith-gk6fy Same! Or one of the other amazing candidates. Would be *really* interesting to see two members of the old staff running against each other in the primary.
After all these years, I just now realized why the character of Sam Seaborn is so amazing. Rob Lowe plays the character as being stiff as a board, and yet, somehow, charismatic as hell. Seriously, how the heck does he do that???
The concept of the show was really about those that work in the Whitehouse with Sam (Rob) as the central character but Martin Sheen loved the writing so much he stayed.
I'm always surprised nobody there recognised him. I'd have thought at least one person there would and would have been impressed to see the new Chief of Staff or even just curious.
I always loved this scene because it plays back to the first time Josh came and got Sam. When Sam turns around in the conference room and see's Josh and then turns back and says "excuse me for just a moment"...pure Sam Seaborn. And you know right there what's been missing.
I wish Sorkin could bring this show back. Sam would be perfect as the president and all the other characters can make the occasional cameo so we can see how they're doing. I can see Charlie still there too, maybe as Sam's chief of staff.
I heard Rob Lowe say recently he didn't enjoy his time on the show. 😞 The actors that played President Bartlett and Kate McKinnon were on MSNBC today with Jen Psaki and they talked about ideas for a reboot. LOVED that show
Pretty sure we covered it in our finance classes, but didn't stick or make sense without practical application. I still remember the shell company, leaseback and mortgage of assets (ships) from the West Wing. Earlier episodes when Josh recruited Sam. Applicable today for different reasons, but that's what private equity does and to a degree the hotel chains. It's called asset light models these days.
The sequel show i want to see is Sam as a Congressman in minor leadership position, like House Minority Whip. That would show all the absolutely insane behind the scenes power politics and fundraising madness that goes on in Washington nowadays
Really wish this clip would have included Sam's ultimatum to Josh to go on vacation or Sam was gone. To be truthful, I've always felt that Josh and Donna sitting down in that airplane should have been the last scene of West Wing ending the story there.
If you were ever going to do a West Wing sequel it would have to start with Sam winning the election and bringing as much of the team back together as possible....I can see him married to Leo McGarry's daughter for starters
huh, until I saw this I could have sworn that when Sam came back it got Communications Director. I have a distinct memory of the line "your Toby to my Leo" memory is a fickle beast
Yes. Josh has a meltdown on Otto unprovoked later in the episode, and Sam gives him the ultimatum that either he takes the vacation, or Sam is gone for good. Josh not only takes it, but also uses the trip to make things perm right with Donna
Sam left to campaign but lost horribly and Rob Lowe wanted to leave the show so this effectively wrote him out, but they brought him back for the last few episodes. Josh goes to get him at a law firm, which mirrors where he originally got Sam, shown in the flashbacks at the beginning of the series.
Sure, because presidents are supposed to come to simplistic and uninformed judgements based only on what's in it for themselves. That's why Trump was elected in 2016.
"You’re me to my Leo."
Hits Different.
Love how the sequence in the boardroom mirrors Josh recruiting Sam to the Bartlet campaign in the Season 2 opener, "In The Shadow of Two Gunment".
I am so happy they were able to get Rob Lowe to come back for the last couple of episodes of The West Wing.
im hoping all these yt vids are hype building for a reboot with sam as president

@@TzunSuI mean who would be the republican, the options are Ainsley, Joe, or the guy that replaced Josh in the final season
One of the reasons he came back was Sorkin hated Lowe and/or writing for him. Before Sorkin left, Lowe had been effectively written out of the show.

He's a more suppressed version of Josiah Bartlett....
I think it helps being unusually good looking. The guy looks 30 forever.
@@KW-fb4kv RIGHT????
The concept of the show was really about those that work in the Whitehouse with Sam (Rob) as the central character but Martin Sheen loved the writing so much he stayed.
How?
Because Rob Lowe.
The only answer.
Not having Sam at Leo’s funeral was absolutely tragic.
Just practical reality for filming a show. I think everyone knows Sam would be there, even if Rob Lowe wasn't.
@@MickeyMolad that’s so true, thank you for putting it that way.
Sam been at Leo's funeral might have taken away the surprise of him appearing in the next episode when Josh wanted to hre him.
Especially because he was going to cameo on the show a few episodes later.
Apparently he was filming in Canada.
I like when Josh just walks into the Meeting.

FACT: As much as people thought the characters on The West Wing were the epitome of good, the fact is the show was pompous and arrogant.
Very well written. A tad long, but not bad; not bad at all.
