  • I BOUGHT A CHEAP DIESEL HEATER - IS IT WORTH IT?
Let's find out if cheap chinese diesel heaters are any good, or if you get what you pay for.
With the cold weather coming in this winter we've decided to grab a cheap camping diesel heater and give it a run during some trips to very cold camping spots.
We've heard good and bad things about these units so we want to see if they're worth the cost, easy to install or whether you should just avoid them all together.

I love these heaters as they really can regulate the heat during the cold.
An issue I found is placing the thermostat at the ‘living level’ or bed level. That way it regulates the heat to where you’re sleeping. Having it low baked me out with too much heat to warm down to my feet, as I was roughly 2 feet higher and it got too toasty.
You can make a ‘plug’ to attach the thermostat at the cabinet and Velcro it at the bed height!!!

For the price you pay for them I reckon they’re unbeatable!
That’s a great idea about the temp sensor too.
I’ll be sure to look into it!

Definitely keeps us warm through the winter.
For the price we paid for ours it’s pretty hard to argue 😂

To limit the sound of the fuel pump, I've wrapped mine in some old rags and just cable tied them on. Works really effectively. Can still hear the ticking on the outside, but on the inside with the fan going, can't really hear it at all.

I actually saw a setup like this a few weeks ago and wondered how it went, sounds like it goes alright!

@@OutNAboutAustralia yep, I've done it on a couple of campers now. Makes a huge difference. I tried a pool noodle and a couple of other bits and pieces but found the good old rags made the biggest difference.

Great Vid bro, I just bought a 8KW for my 16ft pop top, might have to put a grill plate on it seeing the 2KW warms up nicely.

Make sure you add a hidden switch so when the unit has cycled down you can cut the power to the unit other wise the screens tend to burn out

      Good tip Clint!
Luckily my setup does let me isolate it with the whole 12v system when it gets stored away 👍🏽

Could I suggest that you put a rubber mat on the floor and one one the heater so it is quieter..

    • @OutNAboutAustralia
      @OutNAboutAustralia  Год назад

It'd definitely be worth a try.
The heater does have a rubber pad that it mounts to that is supposed to "minimise" vibration noise but the only problem noise we've experienced comes from the fuel pump mounted outside.

You do know it very illegal to have flammable fuel on the rear of your vehicle and caravan i got caught on my way to Cape sandy $250.00 fine and roadworthy on the van, i was nice as but he said its not for your benefit it the poor buggar behind you gets covered in fuel in the case of a minor accident

Hey mate, thanks for the heads up, I’d never even heard of that, especially with all the Jerry cans mounted on rear bars you see.
I’ll have to look into whether this complies.
