It's nice to see and hear the V-8s of the 60's / 70's. I've owned 6 in that vintage, but 5 were Chevys, and only 1 was a Ford ('66 Galaxie).
The Swedish and Norwegian 'Formula Off road' hill climbs are wild
looks like dads coming home from the bar back in the day.
Lmao
😂😂
your right, mopars sound better.
You win @ that comment 👍
Gold, pure gold.
Perhaps the most unsuitable rally vehicle ever. BUT it looks, drifts and sounds just perfect!! Love it!!
B von A Im not sure that that’s entirely true. I seem to remember reading something about the Holman Moody Montecarlo Falcons posting the fastest stage times but ultimately losing to the Mini Cooper over some sort of performance index adjustments.
Falcons were a common choice by top riders in the early to mid 60s in Sweden. So obviously suitable.
Those old Ford's could and would drive Ny where ny time all day n nite long !!! Ford tough!!
A tour bus would be much more unsuitable. Moton
@@impalaSS65 I suppose you could get some sort of rankings with a big v8 back in the 60s because the sheer amount of power it produced, but comparing now when you can get a lot of power from small engines they have become obselete and people are using smaller nimbler cars.
Just the good ol' boys, never meanin' no harm.
Been in trouble, with the law since the day they was born
Nothing sounds as good as a 2x4 on song
That’s great
Them Duke boys...
Hahahahaha absolutely!! Lmao
Fuck you DEMOCRATS, this is why we love our freedom!
Love the sound of modern rally cars and their four bangers hitting the rev limiter, but nothing sounds as good as a good old American V8
Driving the flitari(I think that's the name) but in real life
@@onionman500blin8 i think thats a falcon
well, italian engines sound even cooler. And amg 8v sound better, too.
@@budus2 not really. Have you ever heard an old 1960s Dodge Challenger. I've never been around cars like them that make the ground shake at idle.
AMGs are awesome but cost way more money. Italian v8s are even more expensive and very fragile with high maintenance.
@@budus2 Muscle cars generally sound the sexiest. Normal rally cars are like dogs barking but a an American V8 is a lion growling
This is why I wish America was more into rally racing.
Right, I would love to see a GTO, Ranchero, or a 88 with screaming Rocket in it.
@Bobby Hill The wheel wells would rip out on the first hard turn, that would be great!!!
Lol we just street race and drag race, bounty holes are where it’s at if you wanna hear some bad to the bone v8s
Blue Vagabond the backroads of the deep south will definitely be a great place to rally
@Леон Закарян But they are more cinematic! FWD ain't got shit on RW and All/4WD.
Having owned a few v8 Fords I can tell you that their preferred direction is straight. Getting them to handle requires some righteous Swedish Duke Boys handiwork.
and some enormous balls, for what I see
Looks like you guys are handling them the right way too!
Scootchels all you need is adrenaline and a wet road with no state troopers or cops
Haha for sure! Just a pinch of under steer and a lot of throttle lol
It doesn't help when the car is 18 feet long. But hey, more room for the engine!

This is so much cooler than regular rally cars
Looks like a handful to drive. Reminds me of when I lived in Alberta in the seventies driving and racing friends on the gravel roads.
I disagree. But this definitely is something you don't see everyday.
Its cool to watch, but its not cooler because u cant really rally with these big engines. But yeah, it´s cool to try handling all this mass and power. Definitely a way different experience than in a normal rally car.
You spelled slower wrong
Looks hella fun way to spend an afternoon
Never thought I would see a Ford Falcon in rally, but whatever works. Damn, then an old Galaxie, I Love my old Fords.
Michael Harris-I believe you'll find the Galaxie is really a Ford Starliner.
@@markmorris3579 The Starliner is a Galaxie trim with the special (401HP/430 FT LB) 390 cubic inch engine and a 3×2 intake.
US Ford invested a good bit of $$$ to run Falcons at the Monte Carlo and some other European rallies during the 63 and 64 model years. The 65 models were constructed but the factory backed out. The Mercury Comet ran in the African and Canadian rallies. Back then the FoMoCo engineers were paid to have fun and call it "work" until Ford's US corporate leadership changed hands and the engineers had to put their toys away.
@@theone5716 -Thank you! I always thought the Starliner was a separate model.
@@markmorris3579 No problem. The 390s in the Starliners were always sought after because it's a very rare engine, being made in 1961 only to be replaced by the 406HP/406 Cu.In engine in 1962 and eventually the legendary Ford 427 Cobra in 1964. The car in the video is a Galaxie with either a 352 Cu.In or a 289 cu.in
That is easily the best sounding rally car I've ever heard.
Then you have not heard the Audi Quattro S1.
@@bellezayverdad Assuming quite a bit there, aren't ya? I've seen and heard pretty much everything under the sun. Personally, I think Audis sound like shit.
I quite agree. . .we have a lot of V8's in Australia, but these thumpers have a fantastic, original sound. Great to watch and listen to.
@@bellezayverdad Nor the bark of a Lancia Stratos at full pelt reverberating in the trees of a forest rally!
@@patbutete1722 The Stratos sounds like a fart machine compared to the Falcon. I personally will never understand how anyone could think any compact car engine sounds good.
It might not be setting any records, but it looks like a good time.
Kudos to the drivers handling all that weight in those conditions, balls of steel!

I had a '70 ford cop car (ford custom) when I was 16. My buddy and I ran that old b1tc# up and down the logging road by my house all year. All winter we rallied that heavy pig and kept 2 tire grooves worn in the snow and ice. We'd go to the top, burn a dooby the go flying back down. Good times.

And to think the Ford Falcon was actually a "compact" car (fairly small in comparison to "big" cars of the 60's).
Seriously lol I have a 65 Comet (same thing as a Falcon) and its actually about the same size as my 84 Mustang.. both are pretty compact
Small cars off the 60s you mean
midsize compared to that period's Ford Escort tho
He later falcons were a bit bigger than say a ‘60. About the size of the smaller Fairlanes or the Dart before it became a yacht.

Big old American cars are tons of fun in the dirt.
they are "tons" of fun anywhere...... :o)
The Falcon was widely produced in the US during the '60s, when the '70s came, THEN it became mainly australian. And the Galaxie? That's purely american from top to bottom. The falcons you see here? Those are american falcons.
Love ford V8s. Thanks for sharing
Proper motor sport, brilliant, thank you for posting.
I love the Sound & Grunt from them Engines. Great looking Big Cars. Thank you for the video from Dublin, Ireland.
Saw these racing in the 1960's, fantastic memories !!
There is NOTHING remotely as great sounding in engines (to me) as a throaty, low revving V8 engine.
Those are DEFINITELY the biggest cars I have ever seen at a rally - especially that HUGE, white one..
Thank you VERY much for posting this.
How could I have gone so long having never known this was a thing? That was awesome!!
Now I have had my share of cars. Started out on Fords (USA) had a few 1960 Ford full sized with either a 292 or a 352 CID. These Fords on this rally circuit may be running a 260 or 289 CID V-8's. For all the fun my BIG fords gave me, I still think my SAAB 96/95 and my "sleeper Volvo 240 wagon" were the most fun cars. The 240 was set up with gas shocks, variable rate springs, HEAVY sway bars. That 240 could out handle most cars around AND it was a station wagon too, that was a really fun car to drive fast.
Thanks for this collection of Fords
Craig Nehring badass! a guy that shops at the auto parts store I work in drives a Volvo 240 that has a ford 302 swapped into it
@@SpecialAgentJamesAki That must be a real sleeper, getting your doors blown off by a Volvo station wagon. I had forgotten about the 302. Ford had quite a few blocks to play with back in the day. There were lesser known variants of some of the common V-8's as well, usually smaller in displacement. A 232 and a 272 come to mind, but I won't swear to it lol
Yes, some odd ball displacement Ford's, I think you got it right
Drove a 360 glt.
That 2l had a standard turbo cam in it,so it did rpm to 4000 prity wel,but then it almost stopt.
I changed the cam,from a b230e,that made a hell of a difference.
Later on,i changed the enigine,for a Turbo b230.
It all fits as a glove.
Only the rear suspencion, was not that great
@@craignehring Windsor engines, the 221/260/289/302/351, with the 335 series having a 351 *and* a tall deck 351 just to make it confusing, with the latter getting some more deck height for a 400ci variant... then you had the really old Y block (239/256/272/292/312), the FE series (332/352/360/390/406/410/427/428), the 385 series (429/460), back to the old MEL engines (383/410/430/462).... lots to play with, yes indeed.

Nice, when I was learning to drive in 1973 we had back roads and I had access to my dads car a 65 formula "S" Barracuda 273ci 4bbl and a 4 speed! I still remember the thrill of the back end breaking loose, I was hooked! soon mastered power slides, bootleg turns I saved up and bought that car from my dad, first thing i did was put glass packs on it! Burned thru brakes, clutches and learned how to replace them then wrapped that big fishbowl back window around a pine tree. Moved up to a 68 Charger with a 440 in it wasn't near as fun as General lee on TV the thing handled for shit and couldn't stop but man straight line burnnouts wohaa!
