  • Those first moments in the Grove in 1830 led up to this revelatory event--the Kirtland Temple dedication. Dr. Brent Rogers relates how the spiritual building and the physical building of the Kirtland Temple parallel our preparation. Also, the Saints unify to build a magnificent house of the Lord and prepare themselves for the Lord to manifest Himself.

I find the story of the woman bringing her child very fascinating on many levels. Thank you for sharing it. I also felt a very deep appreciation today to those who wrote down the sermons and recorded the events of that day (and so many others) as they happened. As you talked about the overflow group and wondered if they were writing it down and running notes, like they did during King Benjamin's speech, it struck me that those recording it were sacrificing really being present in the moment so that others could also parake in the meeting and celebrate the temple--they were dividing their own spiritual morsel of bread and sharing it with all. We talk about all those who wanted to be at the dedication. Who wouldn't want to be there?! They all wanted more than to just BE there; they craved the opportunity, to listen and drink it all in, they wanted to feast on the words of Christ and enter the rest of the Lord. But there were those who were blessed to be in the room who didn't just feast. They were instead working the whole time recording the meeting (or as in King Benjamin's day, running the notes that had been written). I am so grateful for them and their sacrifice so we have these sermons and prayers written and we can read them! I wonder if at the end of the day or the next Sunday when people were still basking in the spirit and the glow of the meeting, if those who worked to record and share it felt like they had missed some of fulness of the day--like faithful parents who spend so much of church caring for children that they miss some of their own feast. It made me feel so grateful for those who are broadcasting our sacrament meetings or translating into sign or another languages. It made me think how grateful I am for all those behind the scenes this coming conference weekend that are making it possible for us to receive it throughout the world in so many languages. God bless them! I think of the collection of 1951 newspapers clippings about general conference I found in my parents' things and realized that was their only access to conference while they were in Michigan going to school--a witness of my parents desire to have any morsel of conference and my grandparents' effort to share the word. These are all such jumbled thoughts, but they tumbled together in such power that I was moved to tears of gratitude for all who serve in ways so that others can also feast. It made me desire to exert more effort to share what I receive.

Thank you for your incredible podcasts. I never miss a week. I wanted to share something I was taught years ago about the term ‘advocate,’ because it is one of my favorite titles of Christ also.
The word ‘advocate’ can be used as either a noun or a verb. Before the late 1700’s it was always used as a noun. (Benjamin Franklin thought is should never be used as a verb). Synonyms as a verb (to advocate for) include - plead for, present evidence in support of, persuade in favor of, convince, stand up for.
As a noun, the synonyms are: friend, supporter, champion, defender, expounder, apostle. It was pointed out that in the scriptures the vast majority of uses for ‘advocate’ are as a noun. It is also helpful to remember two things: both God the Father and Jesus Christ are omniscient, so there will be no new evidence and no convincing; and that Their objective is the same - to bring us Home. Elder Holland taught “Jesus did not come to improve God’s view of man nearly so much as He came to improve man’s view of God and to plead with them to love their Heavenly Father as He has always and will always love them…. the love of God, the profound depth of His devotion to His children, they still did not fully know-until Christ came.” (GC, 10/03)
In this way Jesus is the Exemplar of the Father. Maybe most often the Savior acts as advocate for us to us. He is the one at our shoulder telling us that we are better, stronger, and more capable than we think, presenting evidence of our goodness, and championing our ability to triumph through Him, because we often are our harshest judges. I loved the expansion this gave to the term “Advocate,” and it has deepened my love and appreciation for the Savior’s continual work in my behalf. I find the prayers in 3 Nephi 19 to be a beautiful example of Christ as Advocate.
Thank you again for your spirit, knowledge, and guests. Your podcast is a blessing in my life.

One of the most long term and challenging paths for me to progress in has been learning to listen to and follow the Spirit. Remember, it hasn’t been all that long since these members were baptized. Of course they had extra help from the Spirit, but truly, it takes time for the Spirit to CHANGE you. We need to be very gentle in our judgment of them!

I think I heard you quote Elder Maxwell in an earlier podcast, but he said, It's easy to have one heart and one mind when there's only one heart and one mind. We rub against one another, there are conflicts ,but in the rubbing, we are polished.
Families, above all, are where we learn to become more like the Savior. These sections of D&C are helping us today to remember that we are still to be building Zion. We all have conflicts, and often both parties are trying to live the gospel. What can we learn here? ❤

We had an MMen/Gleaner ( now YSA) weekend conference when the DC temple was being planned, our Saturday day activity was to clear all the debris from the temple site in preparation for the groundbreaking. We thought we were pretty hot stuff making our contribution to the construction of the temple

As to William beating Joseph, Joseph likely held himself back not wanting to hurt his brother. He let himself take the beating.

Procrastination is human nature, but to bring heaven to help us on 🌎, we need to👂to Father, acting in faith, to see what he's trying to teach us, his nieve children, who wonder like the blind, groping in the dark to know if his wisdom. Women will get it done
if given the chance, they'll manage the millennium, if men aren't careful

Ok guys, I enjoy the historical back story and everything but.. what happened to the actual scriptures? You don’t seem to get around to the actual verses and what they mean. How about taking a verse or verses and talk about their meaning? I get a little tired of the prattling back and forth with personal stories. Some of that is interesting but again, what about the actual scriptures?

I felt the same way. Where was the discussion on the actual sections? Enjoyed the storytelling, but what of presenting the scripture and its doctrine?
