This is Buster and mine favorite Podcast you have ever done. It is the foundation of my testimony. I have listened to podcast no less than 50 times over the years. Endowment power has been the base of my testimony and helps me in my calling as Bishop. I am a descendent of John Holman. He was Brigham Young's Brother-in-Law. At the age of 19, he received his endowment that last day as Brigham was leaving the temple. It was -17 below zero. People were lined up the building to still receive their Endowment. You have answered the question of why the Endowment was sooo important to receive before the saints left for the Rockies. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. This podcast has changed my life. We love you Hank, John, and Tony.
Thank you for all of the great information and insights here. I definitely agree that we are the beneficiaries of the efforts of so many who have come before us in other dispensations, as well as in this dispensation. I hope, and I like to believe, that we were working to do our part to help them from the other side of the veil. I hope for example, that as the pioneers went through their heavy trials to lay the foundations of the work in the initial days of this last dispensation, that we were helping them from the other side, and that they in turn are helping us.
I’m watching this in March 2022 just because I wanted to spend the day in Section 88. I know I watched it last year, but this year it’s even more inspiring and informative Thank you all, especially Brother Dr. Sweat. I just wrote a note in my calendar to watch this episode next March 22 and each one following. It’s my grandmother’s birthday, so it will be easy to remember
Hank and John: I am SO grateful for your podcast! It seems every one of them just get better and better! I’m so thankful for you and your scholarly guests. I’ve learned a great deal from each one.
Love love love your podcasts! Love the dynamics between the 3 of you - you are so easy to listen to but with such pearls of knowledge and wisdom!! Just want to share a quote I saw in a personal training studio (not mine! I was just looking!! 🤦♀️😩). It said on the wall “Just train the mind and the body will follow”. I love this so much. I was fasting yesterday and whenever I got hungry or thirsty instead of focusing on the needs of the body I turned my focus on the ‘needs’ of the mind and the Spirit. Honestly I’ve never fasted so easily - yet normally I come home from Church on Sunday just STARVING!! Even though I’m not a big eater, I find there is such ‘lightness’ and ‘freedom’ that comes after a fast. So looking at verse 15 we often ‘forget’ or probably don’t focus enough on the needs of our spirit or soul, as we’re too busy satisfying our physical appetites. Anyway. That’s my take. Also I’ve been feeling very sad this week as we couldn’t attend Education Week (we’re in Australia and have been attending for the last 10 years) - yes I did shed quite a few tears over it but being able to listen to these podcasts online now is just such a blessing. Being in Utah with everything accessible to you, I don’t think you truly understand what a blessing you are. My thanks again to you all 💖💖💖
Thank you so much!!! Aaaahhhh! Words cannot express my gratitude. God has answered some deep personal questions only He would know by leading me to this podcast. He has done his work through you this day. Prayer works. This religion works! God is a God of miracles and he is a great giver of good gifts. You all have been a gift to me today. Bless you!
Thank you for sharing your remarkable insights, knowledge, truths and your beautiful testimonies of the gospel of Jesus Christ!!!! Elder Holland’s message is always wonderful, powerful, truth and merciful!!!! Thank you. I LOVE your great episodes. I keep trying to do my best to follow my Savior Jesus Christ no matter how imperfect I am!
I’ve heard church members ask concerning judging “Are we not supposed to judge righteous judgment?” Yes we are. However judging righteous judgment does not mean we have divine permission to correct one another. It means to judge good from evil. We must remember that we are on the same side and are members of the same family. Criticism is competitive. There is no place for competition between siblings. Peace must replace power in the family of God.
really liked the thoughts on the light-about 30 minutes into this. I enjoyed the insights in this presentation. When I read the section I knew it would be power packed.
This is why the sacrament is so important. That we may have His spirit to be with us cannot be underscored more importantly. As we have the Spirit with us we will be exalted. No wonder when Joseph Smith appeared to Brigham Young in vision he told him to “tell the brethren to get the Spirit with them.”
Bless you brother Sweat for teaching about the second comforter - very few podcasts have the guts to teach what Joseph Smith taught on this topic. We know that this is a personal visit (D&C 130:3 and John 14:23), and the temple has added this to the endowment now (Moses 5:10,11). We know that in the flesh we can see God (also, D&C 88:68,69,75); could it be any more clear? This is certainly getting Joseph ready for what is coming in the temple. Why is this usually not taught?
Timestamp 36:45 I have total trust in each word of the Book of Mormon. I wouldn’t question Alma’s use of the word soul in Alma 40:23. Remember that Joseph Smith himself declared that the Book of Mormon is the most correct book on the earth. I believe that Alma was actually being very clear. Here in mortality our spirits have changed, we have become new beings, a soul rather than simply a spirit. We know that the same person - the soul we have become - will be resurrected into a new body, an immortal body. We understand that our spirit, during that period between death and resurrection cannot learn and progress in the same way we were able while a soul on earth. If you look in that same chapter, Alma 40:11 he clearly is teaching about spirits, souls AND resurrected beings. I think Alma is making the distinction between who we have become as a *soul* and what we diminish to once our spirit is separated from our body at death (verse 11). So in verse 23 I don’t think brother Bytheway has it quite right that it’s a misinterpretation on Alma or Joseph Smith’s part. I think Alma is teaching his son that everything he becomes in this mortal realm (our soul) will be resurrected into a new body, as opposed to what we will be (less than a soul when separated from our bodies) during the period between death and resurrection.
Tyler and Taylor have a great explanation of this from BOM central. They say that soul is what is define by Joseph ‘moving forward’ as part of the restoration and to not hold the prophets from old to this standard. We need to be careful about using that measure on the scriptures looking backwards etc. That this gives us further understanding and light to the important of both the body and the spirit as part of the soul as we walk the covenant path moving foward. It’s a great explanation! 😊
Anthony Sweat I watched your video on Joseph Smith and Masonry and Joseph Smith and thoughts on his treasure seeking. I wanted to share them with a friend. Where are they? I can't find them in your videos
Timestamp 27:10+ I don’t understand these verses as well as I’d love to either, but I’ve noted that these celestial bodies of the sun, moon and stars are the original creations of the Savior, as opposed to plants or animals which are designed by God and reproduced in their respective spheres and elements. Celestial bodies like the sun have the actual signature of creation from the savior Jesus Christ perhaps? I’d love others to comment, as I’ve always tried to understand this better, particularly how Christ is actually in the sun. I learned in institute years ago that this principle of Christ being in the sun is present in the facsimile in pearl of great price, so Abraham understood this.

This is a good one
A while back you mentioned an app that is beneficial in studying the gospel. Could you remind us which ones you like best?

Wow.
Can you please tell us from where the Joseph Smith quote about the other comforter can be found? Thank you for your work.
I found it in the D&C Institute Manual for Section 88, verses 68-69. :)

Tony Sweatback?
Tony Sweat back……he’s been a guest before. 💜
Help?! Where might I find the Jospeh Smith quote referenced about "another Comforter"? I would love that for my GD lesson tomorrow
