The finger poke of doom was my last time watching Nitro. I was disgusted because I wanted a Nash(Wolfpack) vs Hogan(Hollywood) match for over a year before the finger poke. They could have had the match for control of the NWO or anything else besides that. Just look at the reaction when Nash introduced Scott Hall. The roof came off the Georgia Dome that night. There had to have been some second thoughts when they saw that reaction.

There have been worse, such as Al Wilson & Dawn Marie's storyline, the Beaver angle with Mosh, Claire Lynch angle in TNA, basically any WCW angle in 2000. Hell, even that storyline with Hawk's alcohol usage.
It's unfair not to mention that Arquette stumbled into the title accidently...so it was executed well and let's not forget his WCW paycheck went to Melanie Pillman, Brian Pillman's Widow and I believe that's more than Vince McMahon and the WWF did for Melanie.

I get that Matt Borne had a lot of issues with drugs and booze but I like the guy . I would not drink with him , he was a miserable mean drunk but I would loved riding up and down the roads with him . He went way back in the territory days abd was always figured in pretty highly in every territory despite it being known he had demons . That was the calibre of his talent . Promoters were willing to roll the dice on him .
Exposing Kayfabe was practical in getting the ahletics boards out of wrestling but it also gave license to erode the plausibility of wrestling . Over all it was a bad idea . In terms of selling tickets it was good but in terms of putting forth a product that drew you in as though it were real it was bad . Now that the breaks are off the story lines need not be believable but merely entertaining .

45:55 the only reason David Arquette got the WCW World Championship was that David Arquette played the lead in the movie Ready To Rumble which had a load of WCW wrestlers in it because the plot revolved are WCW, it’s wrestlers and Arquette was a super WCW fan who helps get his favourite wrestler Jimmy King his title and job back after King loses both in a match where DDP shoots on Jimmy King. So if David Arquette wasn’t in the movie or didn’t even make the movie he would’ve never won the World Title, also at least David Arquette is a big wrestling fan and got into the business nearly 20yrs later doing the Indy circuit and not working for WWE, AEW, ROH or Impact (I think he never did Impact as I’ve never seen it)

Yeah the Finger poke of doom was pretty bad because it's like Sunny said, it's NOT what the fans wanted to see, they paid their hard earned money for that show and I'm sure they knew in advance that the main event of that show was going to be Hogan and Nash for the title. The thing is Nash and Hogan had beef in the story-line at the time, so why not have them have the actual match, that's one of the things that killed the nWo, a bit too many swerves, like too many ha ha we gotcha, that will invoke "yeah uh no go away" heat from the fans. Nash claims the plan was to put the title back on Hogan so that Berg (who Nash beat for the title by ending his streak) could have an entire stable to run through on his way back to Hogan, that was the plan, as I recall it didn't go that way at all. I think they could have did better, why not, have Nash and Hogan have a real match then do the "finger poke of doom" at the very end, I don't know, anything would have been better then what they did. Like I said the thing is, people WANTED to see the match because Hogan and Nash had been taken shots at each other for months leading up to that. Remember, the nWo was involved in civil warfare at the time, Hogan was leader of the black and white and Nash was the leader of the red and black aka the wolf pack,. It's like Darsow said here, yeah uh did we get an angle out of it, no we didn't, but like I said, without the risk of repeating myself, what made is to bad is because by doing that, you cheated the fans out of a main event that they paid their hard earned money for and that they wanted to legitimately see.

ECW should've never been changed to fit WWE's style. Had they left it TVMA on late night TV, had Heyman "running" it, had Styles calling it, and kept the hardcore style without poaching too many stars while adding other stars, it would have been fine. No Stephanie, no Alliance, just let ECW be what it was with better production value and you've got the hardcore fanbase AND the TVPG audience.

As a fan back then I think the finger poke isnt told correctly. At the time there was a NWO Wolfpack and NWO Hollywood with Nash and Hogan leading both. He went way back in the territory days abd was always figured in pretty highly in every territory despite it being known he had demons . That was the calibre of his talent . Promoters were willing to roll the dice on him .

Exposing Kayfabe was practical in getting the ahletics boards out of wrestling but it also gave license to erode the plausibility of wrestling . Over all it was a bad idea . In terms of selling tickets it was good but in terms of putting forth a product that drew you in as though it were real it was bad . Now that the breaks are off the story lines need not be believable but merely entertaining .
That first one with Stephanie owning ECW was not so great but it did not get go away heat . It was one just didn't work .

45:55 the only reason David Arquette got the WCW World Championship was that David Arquette played the lead in the movie Ready To Rumble which had a load of WCW wrestlers in it because the plot revolved are WCW, it’s wrestlers and Arquette was a super WCW fan who helps get his favourite wrestler Jimmy King his title and job back after King loses both in a match where DDP shoots on Jimmy King. So if David Arquette wasn’t in the movie or didn’t even make the movie he would’ve never won the World Title, also at least David Arquette is a big wrestling fan and got into the business nearly 20yrs later doing the Indy circuit and not working for WWE, AEW, ROH or Impact (I think he never did Impact as I’ve never seen it)

It's not that steph ran A company. It's that she ran THAT company. And what ecw became was the real problem for the fans that wanted what it was. Because alot of the people here were already buying into the identity politics that crept into all kinds of corporations and most especially entertainment, it's NO surprise that most of them are attacking this question from the angle of it being "a woman" when that isn't the problem for any of us. In order for anyone to take over ecw it would've always sucked unless they handed it to someone that had that hardcore ecw believability. Steph just didn't.
Yeah the Finger poke of doom was pretty bad because it's like Sunny said, it's NOT what the fans wanted to see, they paid their hard earned money for that show and I'm sure they knew in advance that the main event of that show was going to be Hogan and Nash for the title. The thing is Nash and Hogan had beef in the story-line at the time, so why not have them have the actual match, that's one of the things that killed the nWo, a bit too many swerves, like too many ha ha we gotcha, that will invoke "yeah uh no go away" heat from the fans.
Nash claims the plan was to put the title back on Hogan so that Berg (who Nash beat for the title by ending his streak) could have an entire stable to run through on his way back to Hogan, that was the plan, as I recall it didn't go that way at all. I think they could have did better, why not, have Nash and Hogan have a real match then do the "finger poke of doom" at the very end, I don't know, anything would have been better then what they did. Like I said the thing is, people WANTED to see the match because Hogan and Nash had been taken shots at each other for months leading up to that. Remember, the nWo was involved in civil warfare at the time, Hogan was leader of the black and white and Nash was the leader of the red and black aka the wolf pack,.
It's like Darsow said here, yeah uh did we get an angle out of it, no we didn't, but like I said, without the risk of repeating myself, what made is to bad is because by doing that, you cheated the fans out of a main event that they paid their hard earned money for and that they wanted to legitimately see.

ECW should've never been changed to fit WWE's style. Had they left it TVMA on late night TV, had Heyman "running" it, had Styles calling it, and kept the hardcore style without poaching too many stars while adding other stars, it would have been fine. No Stephanie, no Alliance, just let ECW be what it was with better production value and you've got the hardcore fanbase AND the TVPG audience.

I’m with a lot of wrestlers here the Stephanie McMahon owns ECW angle shouldn’t be on the list as it wasn’t a big deal. Maybe it’s because I’m English and ECW wasn’t shown over here and until the Invasion angle I never really heard of ECW as when the did the small ECW invasion back in 97 I didn’t pay any attention to them
As a fan back then I think the finger poke isnt told correctly. At the time there was a NWO Wolfpack and NWO Hollywood with Nash and Hogan leading both. They did the finger poke and then embraced as the NWO came back together. To me this made more sense THAN fighting for 30 minutes and then joining back together
