I have both MODO bass and drums. I tried drums in my mix recently with a mind blowing result, and so I have decided to give MODO bass a try, and here I am watching tutorial videos to get me started.
This PlugIn is realy awsome. I got the Modo about a year ago and that is what I use since than for all my productions. When I think about bass, I think MODO!
I think physical modelling is the future. Once you're not limited by a sample recording session, you can keep adding "different" instruments so the plugin indefinitely. Also transitions and articulations can be generated more naturally and in infinate combos because it's kinda happening "on demand" rather than needing to exist in the sample pool or rely on sample time-stretching by the instrument engine. Same applies for MODO DRUMS. I think IK are on a unique path and it's the way of the future. God only knows what will be possible when they combine AI with physical modelling.
@@CGWS2011 Isn’t that interesting. That is a great point. Yet sample libraries are vastly more popular and will be just because of momentum and simplicity. Abundance of computer based music producers et al.
I really like MODO Bass. I find that it's very playable which means that I can lay down a convincing bass track pretty quickly. While it can sound a bit fake/sterile at times it's rarely noticeble in a mix. I think they could work a bit on adding more realism to it with more imperfections, and perhaps also some "intelligent" scripting that will automatically simulate a bass players moves (like Virharmonic Bohemian Violin but for bass). One of the main selling points for me was also that it doesn't consume a lot of disk space like sample libraries does.
hifimidi oh hi lol, nah it was interesting and I enjoyed the vid as I am a bass player and have been playing for years. I also write music on programs so I found this sick. Keep it up dude you’re not that awkward 😂👍
It's like most string VST at high velocity, the best description is from an old Sean Connery film called The Hunt For Red October, at slow speeds the Russian silent drive sounds like wales humping, at high speeds it sounds like a robot, it's good until you hit about 90bpm but after that you'll need something with multiple velocity layers with multiple velocity layers contained within each velocity layer. A good free alternative is Unreal Instruments Standard Bass 2 which comes in SFZ format and tuned to B1
MODO Bass is my go-to bass plugin. It's quicker to find a great sound than Trillian, although Trillian has a zillion more sounds. MODO Bass seems to cut through the mix and be more versatile than the Native Instrument offerings.
What's a good Hofner bass plugin? Waiting to get a real one but don't mind having a virtual instrument one too. Does kontakt or amplesounds have one? Or is this one the best one?
*Slaps could be made by fingering using a high velocity note or aftertouch, instead of having to change the "preset" with another articulation, necause when playing in real time, we keyboardists often play the bass with the left hand and a piano with the right hand. There´s no time to change articulation on the left so quicky sometimes. It would be fine if we could have at least "ghost notes" by releasing fast keys, and slaps just using high velocity over the keys. It would be a better work. Do you know any VSTi bass plugin which does that ? Thanks.*
Do you have to use MIDI - USB converter connector on Yamaha Cp-33? Or only you have a simple connected USB connector? How you controller from CP-33? Which would you recommended? Thanks much for sharing us this video!
OMG!!! Options almighty! I have all of Reason, Scarbee, & Ample Sound's basses (thanks to you) would this be a complement to those or would I find this my go to?
That's a tough question. You can get a lot of tones out of this, and the legato slide feature in MODO bass allows for very natural playing that sounds great on a track, but AmpleSound has Riffer, which is just an amazing programming tool that I am loving more and more each time I use it.
Reuben great video, I was going to ask you about Modo vs Ample Sounds but I scrolled down & saw the answer. I still have a question: The Modo is by IK Multimedia which also sells Amplitube. Are there some of the same Bass amps in this plugin (Modo)? Is there a feature to play Modo clean and add your own bass simulators like Amplitube?
I dont know if its how you have the Modo set up but all the basses sound the same to me. I do like features on the plugin. I still think Broomstick Bass sounds the best out of all the bass vst's that Ive heard, its still my go to Bass VST.
Carlton Melson I've never heard of it. I'll check it out. :) As for the basses, it's probably RUclips's compression that lessens the differences. I can hear it clearly on my studio monitors.
Broomstick is very hard to find these days because they stopped making it. When my old PC crashed with the Vista OS I bought a new machine with Windows 7. Broomstick wouldnt work on it so I had to find another bass vst. I tried Trillogy at the time and settled on Hard Core Bass. When I built a new machine with Windows 10 Broomstick worked on it so I went back to it. Tried Shreddage Bass and went back to Broomstick. It dosent do nearly the stuff all the new vst's can do but I love the way it sounds.
Is it not possible to bypass the AMP/ FX portion so that I can process the DI into 2 or 3 separate tracks and process them individually? I need it for metal bass which requires 1 track for grit, 1 for distortion and 1 for just DI
Amplesound libraries sound better in general to me. Especially if you are using them with amp simulator plugins. Modo bass got so many tweak points but the sound is not right there for me.

bassicuk1986 : Ha, I was actually about to ask the same... Well, nearly: Of course we can't really compare Modo Bass with just ONE bass from Ample Sound, because it more or less "contains" - or rather: emulates - so many different basses. But if we ignore that fact for a second, I'd also like to hear Rubens opinion about that... Maybe he can say something about overall playability and realism of Modo vs. all the Ample Basses...
Manuel H. I played both plugins back and forth. Amplesound definitely sounds more natural because it's the real thing. They added lots of automatic bass noises which make it sound more realistic, however those sounds usually get cut out during EQing anyway. Amplesound Bass is still personally my favorite because it the real thing and it's fun to play, but MODO is a whole different beast with its own features. I'll make up my mind soon. Thanks for watching.
I played around with the demo version of Modo for a week. I loved it, easy to use and the sounds were excellent. I purchased Ample Sounds Yin Yang bass yesterday and have a demo of their P bass. . From a sound perspective the Ample offerings are as realistic as I have heard. Both of the Vst interfaces are intuitive and easy to work with. Right now Ik is offering Modo for $150 as a cross grade, or $200 for new customers. Ample has a deal of $89 through March for a single Bass VST .

From this video they both sound like they'd work well with the music I make, anyone else downloaded the smaller limited pack and found it good value for money?
Would it be crazy to use a midi converter (Sonnus B2M or Roland Gk) and use this with your bass guitar as a controller to make it sound like every bass you need?
Theoretically it’s possible, but it wouldn’t work perfectly. You’d still have to make adjustments for things like string, velocity, and articulation, since those don’t always translate accurately.
I think this plugin in sounds cool, I think the thing to watch for regarding realism is the playing, I notice people play bass plugins with a keyboard bass styles and therefore it sounds like a keyboard bass players don't often play so staccato generally because its harder to do, with programming and using all the features and automating some like say muting I can see realistic bass sounds being created, maybe not live but for recordings anyway.

your videos are very helpful. Thank you for that. if we have to select plugins like this for other instruments ,what would you suggest. I have plugins for piano , acoustic guitar and Indian instruments . I am looking for , bass , sax/brass and reed instruments
I wouldn’t call it the “best” because it depends on how useful it is to you. It certainly has many cool features and sounds great in a mix. But I always go to Ample Sound’s ABJ bass plugin. I still prefer samples over algorithms. But MODO bass gives you lots of customization options that make it worth buying, in my opinion.
hifimidi Thanks a lot man, you always answer my questions, appreciate that! Now, I'm mixing the sound of the two, Ample and MODO, I'm happy with the result.
Hi my friend, please help me I have the same yamaha cp33 like You have and so far I know this doesn't have aftertouch and as a beginner in this world of daws I would like to ask you: How do you feel or did feel with this cp33(without aftertouch) in your workflow producing music and working with vst, midi and more, What disadvantages did you find working like a producer with this cp33 without aftertouch? Thank You very much!
There is a really annoying noise that comes through when a note is played on the keyboard. Vsts are cool but I’ve yet to find one where it sounds natural. It will sound ok when the note is being played itself but it sounds clippy. It might be because all the notes are steady at one volume as opposed to when a person plays. I just picture in my head the sound clip being played and even at the end it’s full volume going directly to the next note with an audio file beginning.
Endtimeguitarist Endtimeguitarist have you used Amplesound basses or Scarbee basses? They are the most natural sounding basses outside of the real thing. The hammer on and legato samples bridge the notes to give that natural feel.
HIFIMIDI I used the scarbee from native instruments. I feel like it missed the pluck or pick feel. Like the volume of the note being hit is like an audio clip of the bass at its max volume from when it was first hit. I’m unsure of the features your mentioning. Some settings sounds like the notes are whacked and than disappear to quick. I wish I could explain better. Do you know of any decent videos that give a run down of the scarbee? I have been hoping for a longtime that it could sound better. Thanks for the reply and hope the day is going great!
I hope you’re day is going well, too. I don’t know of any videos. Scarbee is pretty old. But i wonder how much of that problem has to do with sample start time. In order to feel snappy for keyboardists, some VI creators will start the sample right at the attack (around 30ms into the sample), rather than at the start of the sample. When the sample is at 0ms, it sounds softer but feels like there is a small delay. I wonder if that’s what you’re talking about.

Heh, nice detail with the vibrating string past the played note on the fretboard. IK Multimedia does it again, I see.
Impressive on those keys, man
tiene controladores de ataque y release ?
I really enjoy this. I will def pick it up. I hope they go into other guitars i.e acoustic and electric c:
is this the royksop tune ?
can i plug in my bass to my interface and use it along with DAW software? or i can only use with keyboard?
What?
I think you can only do that with vsts which work like guitar rig
anyone know of a bass plugin that takes an electric guitar input for articulation but makes a bass sound?
