My husband and I are both retired Postmasters. Our son currently works for USPS. I sold and collected many stamps over 34 years. I too love stamps. The forever stamps were the best change of many I saw over the years. Your work is lovely. ❤

It's crazy how fast stamps accumulate. I have been buying a few books here and there since a year ago and I already have 111 stamps accumulated. I really love how the USPS keeps releasing new designs.

Kristina, I loved this video. Snail mail is a dying art with the young ones. I remember my mom writing her sister (both are passed now), in Germany and using " air mail" paper so the letter wasn't too thick and cost a lot. A stamp used on that precious envelope was red, white and blue and was printed with the words "air mail". It was put below the postage stamp. The envelope had a red, white and blue border all around also indicating air mail. I guess maybe you could say that was mail art way back when. ( 50's, 60's and 70's ). I've decorated my holiday envelopes for years with holiday stickers....like 48 yrs worth. The young ones don't know the joy they are missing sending a card or note to someone and waiting with anticipation for a reply. Thank you so much for all that you do and showing us your precious collection.💖

My mom grew up in England and has collected stamps that she's received from all over Europe and the US. I didn't appreciate her collection until now, and find myself making cards today! I LOVE all of the designs and moments in history that stamps capture...plus it's fun sending them all around the world. hugs xx

I’ve noticed some crafters save canceled stamps, then glue them to cardstock, then use some favorite dies and cut them out and use that on cards, or they make tags out of them! Such a great idea 💖💖💖

I loved this video. You have an amazing collection. One of my brothers who was born in 1947 started collecting stamps (both new and used) as a kid, like 7 or 8. He passed away a couple of years ago and inherited his whole collection. I new he had a lot, but was astounded at how much he had. He had binders upon binders, a lot of books from when he started out plus boxes of loose stamps and boxes with stamps in little sleeves. They are US and International. He was a collector, he didn’t use them. There’s hundreds of first day issues. One of his binders was created for my son, who is almost 30, of all Disney and cartoon/child related. I gave that album to my son as a keepsake. He used to always go to stamp shows. I would actually like to find a reputable collector to appraise the collection. He has stamps dating back to the 1800’s. If you or anyone else knows of one, I sure would appreciate letting me know.

I’m watching this about 2 weeks late. I believe I heard that stamps just went up to 63 cents! My dad was a collector of stamps, used and unused. Love your collection. I too sent out a lot of cards and was grateful that my sister sent us a bunch of her Christmas forever stamps, since she wasn’t going to be able to do cards, herself.

I've been collecting postage stamps since I was 4 years old with my grandma. I have inherited her collection now too. These are all old canceled stamps, but still a beautiful collection. I never got into collecting full sheets, but now thinking again about that. I may have to start getting sheets as an investment into my crafting obsession. I'll also have to dig out my unused vintage stamps which "true postage collectors" think as "worthless" and start using!

    • @sarahschlegel2049
      @sarahschlegel2049 Год назад +3

I just had to to look at your favorite pages to buy... I never thought out etsy. Well I have to say it's a buyer beware situation on there. As a true postage stamp collector I know that not many stamps increase on value after the fact, and charging sometimes up to 300%on that face value is ...well just greedy. Be careful what you select if you are choosing to use on your mail as postage... a 3 cent stamp is still only 3 cents on an envelope today and not the 1 dollar some are charging for if (unless you are truly collecting and need if to fill your space on that collection page, then it may be worth it...) To be honest with some of those prices on there I'm thinking I should get into the selling game with my collection... But my collection is too precious, and where else can you hold pieces of art that is over 100years old on your hands .

When you were talking about how Forever stamps work, it reminded me of the "olden" days. As Lydia Fiedler would say, in the late 1900s. Do you remember before they started doing Forever stamps, that when they increased the price of a first-class stamp, they would print special stamps to add to the current stamp to make up the difference in price on those stamps? You had to get as many of the stopgap stamps as you had first class stamps, and add both to an envelope while you waited for the postal system to start selling the new higher-priced stamps. And none of them was self-adhesive. I think the additional stamps were designated by a letter to set them apart from regular stamps. We actually still have some of the "G" stamps, though I have no clue if they still even have any value. Anyway, it was great seeing your collection. You have so many stamps, I'd be hard-pressed to pick a favorite! I look forward to your video on how to weigh & calculate postage. I may have to order some "decorative" Forever stamps before the price goes up in a couple of weeks! Thank you for sharing. Take care, & have an awesome day! :)

Hi Kristina love seeing your postage stamp collection. Here in Australia, the cost of mailing a card or letter is $1.10 there is no difference. Christmas stamps were only 65 cents to post only Christmas cards, it amazes me how many beautiful stamps you have l would be getting your collection valued and possibly saving them. You might be sitting on a fortune. That would be amazing. Thank you for sharing your wonderful collection.

Love love LOVE this!!! I was a stamp collector as a child (used - got some VERY cool stamps off the letters from missionaries my foils wrote to for several years), and as an adult, I loved having a variety of stamps to choose from for sending letters and cards. My assortment currently lives in a small wooden cigar box, but I love your books! Guess I'll be doing some shopping!
Thanks for a fun, inspiring video on yet another thing we seem to have in common! Cats, cards, diabetes, stamps, lettering, watercoloring... we must be sisters or best friends in a parallel universe! Ha! Seriously, though, I feel like if we ever met in person, we'd end up chatting for hours! Thank you again for your wonderful videos that you share with all of us! Bless you!

Thank you for the share. I do a thing with postage stamps when sending cards. I have birthday stamps to send on birthday cards, obviously. Same with various holidays throughout the year. I use specific stamps for the specific holiday. Sets of cards I make to give as gifts, I send a book of stamps as part of the gift, often the stamps match the set of cards I am gifting. Never have I ever made a set of cards that were inspired by stamps! How fun is that gonna be to try! I too have sheets of stamps that I'm waiting to use on a card I will send in the near future. Thanks for all your inspiration!

USPS has several coming out later this week so I'll wait to put in an order in a few days! I have many of the vintage stamp that you have; one of my favorites is in the black and white section; the architecture ones. My nephew got his degree a few years ago and I couldn't wait to send him a card using those! I adore the state bird ones (as I love to photograph birds), the hot air balloons, the cactus. I had to go through my 2 books after seeing this video; now I'm off to shop for more!!! Thanks for sharing this fun hobby as a side note to cardmaking! Verde Studio and Pan Handle Postage were 2 of my favorite Etsy shops.

Thanks to a previous video of yours I gathered all my stamps I had all over and put them in a little binder I found with page protectors. I have a few unopened ones (like classic movie monsters) and some where I just saved 1 for a memory. Oh how I wish I had saved more but that's another story. now that I'm able to collect again I have learned to buy multiples. I like the willy nilly of how you organized by color. That's a nice way to collect and display. That is where aa stock book comes in handy.

I love the really colorful postage stamps too. They really dress up an envelope. I have a nice size collection of forever and vintage stamps, not as big as yours, but I just enjoy putting them on an envelope. And the recipients do comment about the stamps also. Kristina, you are the one I got the idea from about these beautiful and colorful stamps. So, I have to thank you. I just ordered some from USPS before the prices go up. Thanks so much for sharing.

Love this - I had to stop buying stamps because I couldn't afford it anymore - my husband and I - we have a lot. Thanks for sharing. Love the older ones. Remember the sheet of the sunflowers? Did you ever see the Grand Canyon ones - I bought them - I think they were $10 each for a corner cut out of 4 stamps years ago. Lee

Thank you for this fun video, Kristina. I always use themed stamps for my cards and, if I have time, I mail my cards from a themed city. For example: Loveland, CO or Valentine, AZ for my Valentines; Hell, MI, Frankenstein, MO or Munster, IN for Halloween; and Bethlehem, PA or Santa Claus, IN for Christmas cards. I package the already stamped cards in a large envelope and mail them to the postmaster at the selected city with a note and it has worked great for years. Yes, it costs extra and, in truth, many of my friends don't notice the postmark, but it is fun for me researching different cities! My family always look for the postmark and comment on the city. I also give stamps as gifts. I like to send "Year of the ..." stamps to friends born in the year of the Tiger, Dragon, Bull or Rabbit and themed stamps that have images my friends like - Snoopy, National Parks, Star Wars, etc. I just watched Concord & Ninth's new release video and think I will use the Perfect Matchbox dies/stamps to make Valentines I can hand deliver to friends - think those will be perfect for a small treat and some heart Forever stamps this year. Thanks again for this and all of your fabulous videos! You are always an inspiration and teach me lots of new things.

I wish I had seen this video before the stamp prices increased recently. I didn't even think about ordering from the website. I often go to the post office and leave unamused at the stamp choices they have on hand. Great info in this video. I am really enjoying this series.

This is such a fun video!! Many of your stamps I remember! I think I might try to jump in to making some mail art myself! Have you ever seen the envelopes people used to send with money for the Grateful Dead? I saw a bunch at an exhibit at the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame and they were so cool!’

I'm so glad that I'm not alone in my love for postage stamps. I have a large collection of Forever Stamps and still have lots of originals from 2007. I think that they were .44. I just read that they are going up on January 23rd to .63. As irksome as that is, I cannot complain about the fact that something is able to travel across country for .63! I also buy a fair number of International Stamps as I have friends abroad. I send out at least 100 handmade Christmas cards a year and have a lovely collection of Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa stamps as well.

I just bought over $100 worth of stamps from USPS just before First Class mail went up to $.63 an ounce on Jan 22 2023. I mail a lot of cards and most of them always seem to need extra postage so I use "additional ounce" stamps too. I wish the USPS had some cuter options for those $.24 stamps.

About the Bright Eyes Pets sheet seen at 13:32, because the cat is black, the cat stamp in that sheet makes a good make-up stamp to use the 32-cent Classic Movie Monsters stamps from 1997 (Frankenstein, Dracula, Phantom of the Opera, The Wolf-Man, and The Mummy).
