- would you call this a medley.... Mike Ness and crew covering the Rolling Stones and transitioning into one of their best songs from the old days 1945. this is an excerpt of the Flipside fanzine video #2
Brings back memories. First time I saw them was around 1980. Damn we're getting old.
Frank Steen back yard gig in 84
First time I saw them was early 80s. They played with CH 3, Agent Orange and Venus Unit 3 at the Whisky when sunset strip was the Mecca for LA Punk scene. Pre Olympic and mega shows
that drummer kicks ass and the New York dolls shirt just makes him 10x better
This is social distortion period.filmed i gues 83-84. I remember seeing them in 82 at the palladium and reseda country club,a bouncer threw me into drum set when i was on stage.this video is very clean for back then.glad the old days are back ..Lude boy was only song missing..
Back before Mike found his sound. I can’t count even count or remember how many time I saw them in the 80s and early 90’s growing up in the OC. Nothing wrong growing old when you saw the good bands
Of all the spontaneously combusting Social D drummers, O’Brien was the best.
No doubt! Great drummer
I remember buying the 45 for 1945 for a $1 when it came out at Music Market in Costa Mesa, California. I was in 9th or 10 grade. Ha. Along with the DK Police Truck, I have not heard anything like that at that time. 40 Years Ago....oh man... SPS
Goddamn it! A young kick ass Mike Ness and the crew getting it done!
Awwww I loved Michael I was so young
Derek O'Brien, great drummer as we can listen to and see
some Killer vintage gears for these young punks
legend in the making.....cool to see this old school footage outside of "another state of mind"
next person who says "this is not social d" I swear to god....
check the ink free arms straight classic
2:42 drummer killed it
Rodney on the ROQ played 1945 every week. It was a great time to discover music not being played on KMET.
Bridge P90, Fender Bassman head and a Marshall cabinet...
so young
Amped up to see SD in 2 weeks. They were great at riotfest.Small venue and should be a blast.Ever get a chance to meet Mike he is a great guy.
I say this as a 44 year old fart who grew up in Fullerton and remembers SD in 1982, when I was a little hardcore snot:
Early Green Day *was* really fucking good.
Yes, but the cool kids choose not to admit it. It hurts their street cred.
This is a true punk rock social distortion
Why hasn't Mike Ness or anyone re-released this at all?? It's so incredible...I love all Social Distortion material, but their early material is hands down the best of all time. It would have been so amazing to see this re-released as some sort of a DVD in their catalog. I know there are more songs they did in this video.
It's been released. It was released back then as a single.
Because it sounds like it was recorded in a toilet.
Matthew Smith Production standards like yours would eradicate well over half of punk rock created to this day.
@@stinkymagee4585 where you were born

this is cool, i've never even heard the second one.
Samuel McClung The second one is from their first EP- 1945. They used to crash at our place in San Diego when they played down our way- good people.
1945 dropped hard as fuck!
Saw them twice...killer
@romuluscreative I'm sure he made quite a bit of effort to acquire it. I was simply expressing what a nice guitar it is.
That drummer is fuckin great.
when you say those two names in the same sentence it makes me very sad
This was probably filmed in 1983, "1945" is the other song.
How cant people even compare green day with SD? there are like father and baby son
Everybody compares every punk band to Green Day because GD is the only “punk” band most normies know. Obviously there’s pretty much zero similarities between SD and GD. Lotsa noobs in these comments section.
Still wondering if this was filmed at the Casbah studio in Fullerton, if so I know where it is
JeRRy's WoRLd. pretty sure this was in long beach
haha when did green day "kick ass" and social d has and will always kick ass
Early Social D and early Green Day kick ass.
nope only early social D
wtf no, green day are amazing !!
and hey, what's bad about anyone thinkin they're in the same category?? everyone has a different opinion !! In my opinion both bands are amazing, just accept others opinions...
green day..really?
@romuluscreative I don't think he was that impoverished check out that melody maker he's playing. Sweet guitar
Probably stolen, but who cares…?
