@@eddieleonard6925 it was my first beat machine. I wanted an MPC 200 so bad but moms got me the Yamaha for Christmas. This was around the time the Roland sp 808 came out…another dope gem…I was a little disappointed getting the su700 back then because I never heard of it and nobody knew what it was or how to work it, RUclips was not around. I followed the whole tutorial from the manual and then I started flying!!!! My beats banged harder than any MPC user I physically came across. The sound engineering on that machine is phenomenal. I’m swapping my encoders asap after watching your vids lol
@@corey3107 i'm glad you finally got it to work for you. to be real, I still use it as a sampler and for the effects. I still can't figure out the sequencer, it's so different than mpc workflow. any tips would be appreciated. i need to start with setting lengths for each sample, then just start experimenting. steep steep learning curve.
@@eddieleonard6925 just remember to look at the above menu/grid very logically and dive through the sub menus to get to further settings. I primarily used the compose loop buttons to make a beat. Those are the pads that you can create your own patterns from. It’s like a single row of 4 horizontal pads on your MPC. I never really used the orange loop pads to make beats or the free pads. I would use the free pads for drops when making beat tapes or hits or any other extraneous sound. Set your compose pads to time signatures and lengths that work with one another and then start sequencing bro! I looked at it like I had 4 banks and 4 pads at a time to make a beat, totally ignored the other pads while composing. The letters above the transport computer keys is where you can store scenes by holding the letter for a few seconds…then voila that scene with everything you have active is stored…mute a part and then store that part in another letter…now you have another part you can switch to after you hit play to initiate your sequence. It’s a fun box!

when I see someone do something this creative and original so effortlessly it makes me want to buy an MPC. But I had one for years and mostly only used it for drum machine and MIDI sequencing. Ugh, why was I so stupid?
What I love about MPC's is that there are many legitimate ways to use them. They can be the centerpiece of your studio or just used for midi, drums or anything. Cheers and thanks for watching

It'a absolutely fascinating to me as a drummer, watching work with the metronome this way. Being purposefully slightly off from it in a consistent basis building layers without having the kick and the snare is just absolutely mind blowing. Also if you use Logic there is a way to have it record everything in the back (but I don't know if it works for audio or only MIDI) so that you don't have to worry about not hitting the record button and it captures up to the last 20 min I think!
Glad you enjoyed this experiment. The MPC has it's own groove and swing that you can manipulate, depending on how you sample and how you program. I don't think I'm aware that I'm being purposefully slightly off...but looking back, I guess that's what I'm doing. Looking to swing...looking to give the machine personality.
Honestly it kinda reminds me of , at least the early;Kid Koala stuff,wich was a huge inspiration of mine when I first got into beatmaking. Keep making weird shit, weird is good.

Anyway;he does this storytelling scratching that's very reminiscent of what you did. You can probably find it on your own but I'll hit you back up if I find it,kinda wanna remember now.

Coming back to comment that I just finished listening to the Future of Music and that stuff is on some next level! The name of this tape is almost prophetic haha! You need to find some MCs to spit on those beats because those are the type of beats that can inspire pretty magical stuff. I know most producers do this pseudo rapping/gibberish flow on their beats, well I couldn't help myself to spit on these beats and my real words/rhymes to gibberish ratio was way higher than usual with some actually clever stuff that even caught me off guard haha! The tape is fire man, even if in this very raw form, the combination of your chopping creativity, the unbelievably dope swing, and the sonic textures of the outboard gear you use make for a very nice final product. Looking forward to hear more!

you can use any sampler (software or hardware) to get audio and either use a mixer with EQ to separate sounds OR one of the new AI programs that separates individual sounds within songs.
@@eddieleonard6925 One of my favorite videos is when you compared the difference between multi-out vs stereo-outs on the mpc. That video let me see how many effects processors you use to filter each channel through. That was crazy, to me.

You have to allow the sample to play to its fullness. Then lock into a grove with in the sample. Think public enemy Terminator X.
