Has anyone else ever noticed there's a cat in his videos? It's subtle but if you look closely I think you'll spot it.
Äh duh. It's the one speaking the whole time!?
Can you timestamp where?

17:50 I don't know why but your deadpan delivery of the line "Because as you can see…I am fat" made me laugh until I cried. Halloween in July is my favorite RUclipsr series/video event. Thanks again for another great video Charl!
This series has been so fun, and I don't even play Chernobyl/Chernobyl-esque games! Also really love your cooking segments. They've helped spark me getting back in the kitchen myself! Love how approachable and chill you make each recipe.
Good knife technique and thank you for pointing out the correct way to hold it. BUILD THOSE CHEF CALLUSES. I was a cook for 3 years and like 9/11, I'll never forget.
I honestly love your cooking segments
I forget there's another video around it whenever they're on, not to say I don't love the rest of your video, but I just get totally captivated by the cooking segments. Professional interest I guess, I worked in a kitchen for two and a half years and only changed jobs recently, so prep-work is still something I really enjoy
I love that you love cooking. It makes me happy when people find something that makes them happy 🎉
I'm so glad you're covering this game. I never beat it but I loved what I did play. I have just been playing other stuff but it's a really great game.
I adored this game and the comedy in it, and wanted to 100% complete it but my save file completed before I could attempt the last mission that I worked so hard to prepare for. My only complaint is the shooting is so clunky on PS5, it freezes any time you’re about to get a kill shot on an enemy. Graphically it’s stunning.
I hope you one day touch on "Into the radius vr" is honestly a very fun game that is a little clunky, but that clunkiness makes the horror parts even worse as you try to keep yourself prepared constantly. And when ever you panic and drop your pistol then struggle to get stuff your you bag, that's a fun experience.
I had a lot of fun with Chernobylite. I do feel it needs more polish as the weapon choices feels oddly limited I ended up using a heavy modded pistol for most of the game until late game where I switched over to using the gauss gun thing with its recharging ammo and kept my pistol as back up. The base building also felt very limited. I ended up stacking cheap items to get the base stats up since that is all the NPCs cared about and outside of the workbenches they don't have a lot of function for you as a player. But it still in development so I'm hoping the game gets more fleshed out as I would totally play it again
"needs more Polish" 🇵🇱
Yo, was always curious about this one, thanks for the video! (and nice video btw!)
Thank you for still makeing vids
Love how you manage to make this game sound as good as it really is. And to think, i never even heard of this game before. Was just looking for a decently priced game I might like. And I frickin lovin'it. Going be a sad day when I finish it. At least there's a few new games coming out right now I'm looking forward to. P.S. thanx for the spoiler alert.
Damn this game sounds unique and fun. Great video as always.
It's always nice to wake up and see the notification from Charl uploading
I am now going to start calling murder "advanced vibe checks"
Bit of advice on the cooking segment, use cornstarch over flour in making the sauce as you don't need to cook it as much, as raw flour is extremely dangerous, and it will thicken up more as well as add a slight sweetness so you can use less brown sugar if desired.
"raw flour is extremely dangerous"
what? how? I have never heard such a claim/statement before, could you elaborate? I am being serious..
@@elitereptilian200Pretty sure he's one of the glutenbad folks maybe?
just so you know when i see an other stalker like game video in my alerts i am just stoked. your videos are great and i love your cooking segments too. PLEASE PLATE!
Uuuh, that kinda is played at the end. It's meal prep: it's supposed to go right into the container.
@@CharlatanWonder you need to make the cooking segments there own videos aswell
I like the combination of cooking videos and video game review. Suggestion: the recipe could relate to the game somehow like for Chernobylite maybe something like borscht
It's good to see Igor has gone from being the assistant to a crazy scientist, to being his own crazy scientist!
Dude was really destined to be one from the moment his parents named him Igor
17:55 "A ten pound bag of chicken quarters. They're about 8 bucks..."
As a Canadian, who pays 8 bucks a pound for chicken, I literally jumped out of my seat and screamed "WHAT!?" at my computer.
My life in Canada is no longer acceptable. Take me with you.
11:10 You'd have to be pretty crazy to go into the Zone to begin with, so that's not a big surprise
This video is great, came for the games but stayed for the food haha
thanks for this series, it’s been great!
sorry if folks have already recommended this game but have you seen or played into the radius?
it’s vr, but it looks really cool.
i haven’t picked it up yet but it feels like it would fit with the stalker theme.
It totally does
Dude the thumbnail is freaking perfect and I've never heard of this channel before, but seeing it made me click. I'm glad I did, awesome content that made me laugh many times and I love the display image lmao.
That is definitely a background music choice for the cooking segment
First time I met the nightmare in prey I managed to kill it in four-shots with the Margrave and slow-mo.
Turns out I had blindly picked skills considered op and my cleptomaniac searching had given me a few too many neuromods.
Just a heads up I think it’s generally not a good idea for hot foods to come in direct contact with plastic like that Tupperware. The heat can cause plastic micro particles to get into your food. “Microwave safe” is better but glass/ceramic like Pyrex is probably best.
Well yeah, that's why I not only let everything rest before portioning hit also use the BPA free/microwave safe containers. We just don't really have time in the video for me to show you everything cooling off for 10 minutes before I start scooping.
this guys a legend
Oh have you tried ladling out the broth and literally blowing the fat off the top of the ladled broth? That's the best way I found to lose the least amount of broth
NOOOOOO I was too into the cooking section and I wanted to know how do you take care of the meals and snacks you did, like I imagine you put it in the fridge and then??? How do you reheat it, I'm interested
btw dude, I don't know if it'd help, but I've seen folks use either a giant ice cube or a ladle that's frozen cold to remove fat. You basically take the frozen item, place it atop the broth for a moment then remove it and the fat will have frozen and stuck to the item you used :)
I loved this game only played it a few months back
"...you and your lover on the train..." Metro moment
i zoned out for 5 min and now this is a cooking video tf
I love this cat, slightly derpy… ever so slightly
Yaaaaay, more Charl!
Hope you're doing well my dude.
PS: Gonna go see HEALTH & Perturbator in August and I thought you mentioned liking them.
*SACRIFICE FOR BIG SOUP & ALGORITHM*
By the way when are we going to get the homeworld cataclysm video?
the idea of the self disintegration device from the npc perspective is both hilarious and terrifying
I earnestly respect you for learning to embroider and heat transfer yourself. You Charlatan, it's wonderous.
Props on meal prep.
Stalker developers did the same thing back even before making the first game. They actually went to the zone and took a crapton of pictures and scans.
Charlatanwonder: "Don't drink to deal with trauma"
Vets: "Wut?"
You don't have to worry too much if your recipie is too similar to another's, if you are worried about copyright or whatever. I've heard that they can only copyright the way its told. Like if it's a blog or a book.
I have to say you really made me wanna try this game Charl . No shade to ppl like Gman but his review put me off of the game and the way you explained it made me do a whole 180 on it. Cheers for the great coverage
So did you end up buying it ? What do you think ?
@@Gatorade69 I have indeed purchased it , I just haven’t had a good chance to play it yet 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ I’m one of those ppl who has to finish his current game before starting a new one lol
@@maltsutty I feel ya. It Sounds like I would enjoy it but my backlog is already too big.
Charl: Skip ahead if you want to avoid spoilers.
Me: Meh, what story could a survival shooter possibly have to be spoiled?
Charl: *Explains the story*.
Me: I... did not expect that.
It is a really good game, I just wish it weren’t so like squished together and it was more open and that it weren’t in districts and you can freely go for example from red forest straight to Pripyat without going back to base
If you play VR games, “into the radius” is a pretty good, roadside picnic-inspired game
Solid point about merch at the start there. I've been interested in quite a lot of merch from various RUclipsrs but then...I'm not paying £30 for a t-shirt, plus shipping. Wish these companies would learn that people would buy more if things weren't so pricey, this is evident in almost every industry ever. Cinema tickets used to be over £12 here for an adult, making a trip around £30 for me between fuel and food. Barely went.
They slashed that to £5 now I go more than twice as much as I used to. Super simple stuff.
£30 is honestly a pretty average T-shirt price lmao
You thinking of reviewing Ctrl Alt Ego?
Immersive sim that came out full release a month ago or so on steam. Not sure if you've seen it?
lmao I'm playing that right now.
Nice.
So the main antagonist in a game about time travel and altering timelines is yourself... wow, what a plot twist. Nobody seen it coming.
I have to say, I expected more Tarakan in the video. Gonna go see the cooking segment though, since hope always dies last.
AW YEAH for SAUCY BOY
uh, i have huge questions about the cooking....but im happy to see you enjoy yourself in the kitchen! ;)
It's okay to have questions about it. I started it because one time I was covering a really mediocre game and needed to fill time in the video so I filmed myself making a grilled cheese. Then I was like "God damn do I love cooking things and more people should realize cooking is easy!" So I started doing cooking segment's semi-regularly. Now for Halloween in July I'm doing a cooking segment for every video.
@@CharlatanWonder Oh my thanks for the reply matey.....i know I've been following you for quite some time... i meant it about the different techniques you employ :D :D
Tldr : get even , but good.
The skin can be fried for crispy skin, use the fat you have from the broth and fried using that. A nice chef's snack after all of that work.
supported the game since day 1 because i like chernobyl things lol
there is some magic around chernobyl
Ya know, I've been kinda sleeping on this one but I should totally get it
Best thing in the game is they have Andrew Wilson the CEO of EA in the game selling Lootboxes aka Evgeniy xD
This vid made me reconsider getting this game! Will probably give it a try when it's on sale :) Thanks!
I have no idea why it's standard to translate cyrilic X as KH. That's the kind of R English dos with Hs, like House.
So Mikhail actually sound like Mihail. Well, in other languages that H could be mute and people would read it as Miail. I totally support writing it as Mirhail. Mikhail just makes people say Mikail.
cool videio

Speaking from experience, are we?
I'm very into this
On insane difficulty Black stalker appears MUCH earlier, resources are MUCH more scarce, and"random spawn" NAR patrols are about double in size, and double HP with faster reactions, aiming, and better perception. On normal many maps pieces often have no monsters, or soldiers they are empty, whole on harder diffs they have stuff.
Stealth and landmines, firecrackers, and ambushes are much more important than gun combat especially early on.
Higher-tier NAR soldiers often replace lower-tier ones, High-tier NAR uses "stun shot" which deals with 3hp dmg and slowdowns movement.
They almost never use this move on normal. They almost always use this move on insane.
Food can become a real issue. The zone also downgrades much faster. Your squadmates often get kidnapped as they have a much lower % chance to succeed they get injured extremely easily even if they are successful so you need to spend more resources to patch them. All these things almost never happen on normal/default difficulty.
Normal difficulty is very easy past day 5, the Black stalker is zero threat, and NAR is mostly low-tier soldiers with half their insane hp values with dump AI.
Resource manegement is non issue. You will be swimming in food and everything else.
The hard difficulty seems to be Balanced where stuff is a threat but still manageable. I recommend hard difficulty.
On insane patrols of 2000 hp, armored soldiers in the late game are not uncommon, Black Stalker can appear as early as 5 minutes after the mission start if not building anti-storm devices(which can get destroyed by the NAR).
I think on a normal Black stalker lower cap is 30 minutes to appear. You will likely only fight him on scripted encounters, on hard you sometimes fight him, on insane he will likely appear every mission unless you build tons(20-30+) of anti-storm buildings. He can appear more than once, but if you"kill" him he will be gone for that day.
Of course, killing him on insane is not worth the ammo for the first 15-20 days. He has about 2,5 more HP than normal.
Weapons are the: Revolver, shotgun, AK-74, and Xbow, with the last tier crafting station you can also craft a railgun and the"BFG" gun which deals 1200 dmg on a direct hit to NAR but has very expensive ammo. All weapons are very highly customizable.
+You can field craft various traps some are anti-monsters, some anti-human some generic like landmines. You will likely never need them on normal, are very rarely need them on hard.
Game has 3 tiers of armor 1, for stealth, and 1 for combat so 6 total armor types for different play styles.
hey, I was wondering if you heard about ctrl alt ego ? it recently fully released and describes itself as an immersive sim. I don't use tweeter so I'm sorry if you already adressed that, since I'm not seeing anyone talk about it.
Oh yeah I was playing that yesterday since it just launched
@@CharlatanWonder so far my only gripes with the game is how floaty the movement feels. but apart from that I think the game wrold is well designed, althought I'm bearely 2 hours in so it might be just the early game that's well made.
I feel like that's designed on purpose. Later in in the game you get access to stuff that's much better at moving around than the BUGs
@@CharlatanWonder damn, that's pretty cool. now I gotta finish it before anyone else does a review about it
Like a Manga you even put on a Chef's Hat... Nice Review...
Every time I see someone not use a rice cooker to cook rice I die a little bit inside, I just don’t understand.
Funny cuz the belt fed revolver was an actual weapon
Have you tried Jurassic Park: trespasser? It is a fun imp sim
Good.
Tarakan (Таракан) in Russian, means Cockroach. Just an FYI. 🙂
You should cover stalker anomaly
one of the things i do not like about this game is the fact that you can just change your decisions so freely. because it means that there is virtually zero consequence to any of your actions since you can just craft Chernobylite at your base, self-annihilate, and then change your choices completely. and some choices don't really have that much consequence to them. plus the survival mechanics of the game are really easy to manage. you can grow as much food as you want in your base along with additional storage for your junk and crafting stations to make whatever. so you're not gonna be scrounging for supplies for long when you've basically got the ability to maintain everything with just enough scavenging to make a small indoor farm. the only thing you might need to scavenge for is ammo since crafting it is quite expensive. but remaining undetected and stealthy pretty much means you'll never really need to use any, and there's so many revolver rounds scattered throughout the game that you will never run out. it is your workhorse gun for that exact reason alone.
If you kill Olga's husband, you can just straight up lie to her face about it and she'll believe you and be willing to join your party.
Sashko's choice is so brutally trivial that even a zombie would choose to jump out of that window. after all, if this guy's only reliable associate is a crazy old guy with bird poop stuck to his hair, then he's obviously not a threat, but can be a valuable asset to your team.
I can see why some people would choose to leave Mikhael out of the team considering he's a danger to himself, evident after he blew up the building he was in and nearly got himself killed from the subsequent gas leak. but with how the game's story railroads you into saving him, most people would be led to assume the story wants them to take Mikhael in.
The only choice i've come across that had any weight to it, was choosing every choice possible that pissed Tarakhan off so much he didn't join my party and even tried to burn me alive. taking the PDA upgrade instead of destroying Duga Radar, leaving his traps entirely disarmed, and reading the notes he had in his hideout all led to him wanting me dead. this is the only character where it feels as if choosing to help him wouldn't offer any benefit to you since he puts you through so much hassle with almost no explanation as to why. hell, the choice to read his notes was the only one i had changed so far. i died in the first scripted death of the game and burned his notes since they didn't offer anything of value to me.
"Stay indoors"...?
...why?
Someone thought “what if stalker but it was actually fallout 4” and made it a game
Conclusion, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is the best S.T.A.L.K.E.R.!

Personally, I am offended they didn't include Chornobyl babushkas in this game.
If you don't know about them, please watch "The Babushkas of Chernobyl" documentary. It's amazing
Commenting for the algorithm!
I really enjoyed looking at the zone through a different lens, but the gameplay didn't do it for me. It often gave me a very casual vibe.
Organic exploration barely pays the bills, you're always on a soft timer, so you rely heavily on the scanner. You're not exploring a new location or picking a lock because you're curious, but because you already know what's inside. When you do enter a building, it's a clear divide between NAR and alien combat. Maybe the Black Stalker shows up. Except for one more enemy type later, the game is already out of surprises and it really stinks once you realize that. All the "memory sequences" could have had much more impact, if you expected the worst in a new room and got surprised by a new memory instead.
What really added to the casual feeling were the "skill point missions". Testing the player to acquire a new skill is actually a pretty good idea, but all of them felt like basic tutorials. "Stealth: duck - stay behind cover - don't get in front of the NPC" is something every seasoned player would expect from the start. Most other games would establish this within the first few missions, as a gameplay tutorial.
Chernobylite feels like it got caught between two stools. It chooses an environment, which many gamers have learned to be incredibly hostile, and mixes it with very simplified / casual mechanics. I'm imagining a Venn diagram, with a rather small area of intersect.
These guys are still very talented in the visual department (well, characters are a bit questionable and they intentionally avoided facial animations with masks), so maybe they just need a bigger budget and a different game director? Some of the people have to be Stalker / Metro fans and I think they could pull it off, if given the resources.
Woooooooooo, spoooooky
Damn I might just pick this game up again. First tried it out the first week of early access and it was just so...empty, ended up refunding it which is a rarity for me but it looks so much better now.
personally id use corn starch instead of raw flour in that sauce recipe but thats mainly due to the gluten in flour not agreeing with me well
There is no character named "Oliver" in Chernobylite.
There is yet ore in the Stalker mines, the Charlatan should definitely take a look at Stalker: Anomaly (if he hasn't yet), essentially the closest thing we have to Stalker 2 (or 4)(don't tell him it's a mod, it might aswell be it's own game)
I recommend seeing the link in the description/pinned comment on his Clear Sky video, within it he's described the reasons he's not touching Anomaly, it's disappointing to hear how he was the target of ugly behaviour from a fair number of people because he chose to play the unmodded Stalker games instead of Anomaly.
Dang.
Tried this game and played it till around the mid part. At the time of playing it, it had some performance issues so this was one of the two reasons why i stopped. The second one was that it was boring because of the maps since I do not like the type of game that pushes you to master a bunch of smaller maps (like Deathloop for example). The idea was good and i generally like the hub world system but for this kind of experience it was not what i was looking for. If the world was open or you at least had to travel to the point of the map your mission was it would have been a different experience. I know it is unfair to compare it to stalker, especially since they are totally different types of games that try to do different things but there it is, the world was beautiful and boring, almost static and that is not the kind of thing i generally go for...
What platform did you play it on..?
@@Evanz111 I played it on Pc maybe a few months after release. I use my Pc for 3D animation and rendering so I can guess it was an optimisation issue. I generally try before I buy since I live in the poor country without steam region pricing but the version I played was up to date at the time...
I prefer not to skim the fat from my broths as there's a lot of flavour in it and Im tryna bulk, but if you're watching lower calories or like the aesthetics of a less cloudy broth skimming can help
I lost tarakan and I cry. Also no cap on skill points aggravates the fuck outta me, got all the perks but keep leveling I cry. If you lost a companion and don't wanna redo the timeline die to nra on purpose
You can make stalker anomaly look like this for free also with more than 2 guns and a better story
I think it’s stalker mixed with Singularity
