WELCOME BACK TO THE METRO! We're taking a look at the sequel to Metro 2033 that is Metro: Last Light! Artyom is back at it again creeping through the remains of the moscow underground in order to preserve what's left of human civilization and figure out what exactly is going on with the dark ones!
Interesting fact! Metro: Last Light is specifically NOT called Metro 2034 even though the sequel to the book it's based on is called that because Metro series author Dimitry Glukhovsky (spelling???) felt Metro 2034 wasn't a good fir for a game and helped the team at 4A make a new story which eventually became the third book in the metro series, Metro 2035. That means we're not dealing with a video game adaptation of a book here but a video game that got adapted into a book. IT'S COME FULL CIRCLE!!!

I don't ever remember having as much trouble as most people seemed to have in the metro games but I did play completely stealth and used knock-outs for almost all human enemies it got to the point where I just started selling my ammo since I had to much
My man you should check out all the thief games (except the most recent one) if you are good at stealth.
Same, I challenge you to a knife only playthrough (throwing knife or otherwise) I first did this in the pavel dlc level where you can maybe unintentionally continue on with the dlc without picking up any weapons, it was fun to beat, unfortunately you can't do the same in the main story as it forces u at a couple points to have weapons or gives u a weapon, but you can still do it just ignore you weapon, throwing knives have a strange disparity from where you're actually aiming so it is pretty fun if you can learn to nail shots consistently
During my first playthrough, I took my time wandering through the dead city level since I still believed I'd instantly die if I touched one of the ghosts. However, I had spent so much time that I didn't realize I used up all my filters. So I had to sprint to the end of level, make it to Red Square, and get the filters at the start of the level so I wouldn't suffocate.
that sounds like a metro thing, I love these games.
80%~90% of combat encounters in this game can be stealth through to save resources and even collect more from dead body, my advice would be
-Master the throwing knife cause an unaware enemy will alway die from a single knife and they are reusable (Exceptions are big mutants like demons)
-Take your time and explore places when you aren't on a timer cause there are alot of stashes providing you with resources/ammo and new weapons
-Place your shots rather than just firing, a headshot will alway be the best but if you find it hard to headshot enemies then just tap them on the chest first for them to stop then go for the head
you can check ammo and medkit count and what throwables you use by checking your objectives notepad, even on survival
It seems like some people don't realize that if you hold down the lighter button, you lift up your journal, use the right mb and Artyom will lift it into the screen. This shows your objectives, and on the top is a bar with button icons and numbers next to them. This will show you your ammo at any time, but it takes a bit
If I remember correctly, medkits don't heal you instantly. They're like Max Payne painkillers. If you think you're done with combat for a short while, using just one medkit is usually enough. And on easier difficulties I'm pretty sure there is a small amount of health regen, but maybe not on ranger hardcore. Not sure.
this game has legit the worst healing system ever, its health regen but it also has healing items but the healing items dont heal you instantly so you cant see how much damage you have taken or how fast you heal. Healing in this game is a shot in the dark.
What I ended up doing to compensate for my lack of MGR's is sell all the guns on a level. Playing hardcore, I got to the second mission with Andrey's railcar, where you meet the refugees, and realised there's a vendor there. So with every bandit I killed, I ran back to the vendor, sold it, and ran again for the next one. Cheesed the 1000 Cartridge achievement by complete accident XD
Edit: Artyom forgot or had that memory of meeting the dark ones repressed, hence why they're able to communicate while dark ones make everyone else mad. Its explained in a diary entry after Artyom gets interrogated, unfortunately
What i usually do in Metro games is to always use the "Check Watch" button to see all your ammo in the mag. Make sure that the ammo your using is rusty to not use up all your Money and always be conservative with buying attachments as most of the time, you'll find better guns or appropriate guns while going through your journey. Also, DO NOT SPAM THE HEALTH KITS. They regenerate over time. It takes a few seconds before your reach max health. Some situations you could complete by just going full marathon and running through enemies until you reach a location where there scripting and traversal breaks. If there's one thing i despise about last light is the scripted boss fights that last way too long. Wherein they take all your ammo because of scripted reasons
Take some well deserved rest. I've enjoyed all your videos from this year nevertheless, even with all that crunch you had to do.
The first time the spiders showed up in this game I physically jumped at every little noise. Every scratch along the walls, every thump in the vents, every chitter and hiss, all of it made me quickly yank my flashlight around and pray they didn’t get close enough to get me. This was made 10 fold by the Spider Lair DLC, but, hey, at least I had a flamethrower for that one.
Mr. Wonder definitely had a different experience to me.
Stealth is very easy. Managing Air is easier than in Metro 2033, even on a first playthrough. Munition is in excess in Spartan Mode and is plenty in Survival Mode.
The switching of throwables is easy once you test once. Can do it in the prison even.
As for the quick time events. Yeah, I can't recomand Hardcore on a 1st playthrough. You need to know where the Interactions are. But for a 2nd playthrough? Not having prompts is great.
Metro Last Light is just great top to bottom.
In fact, the redux versions are incredibly easy when compared to the original game. I play the original Metro 2033 and when I got Last Light Redux it just felt like the game was really easy.
Exodus really tones down the difficulty for ranger hardcore.
Most of the human encounters can be stealthed (which is easier here mainly because unlike having to manage patrol routes there is always a set route you can safely take where there are enemies that aren’t seen by anyone else) and the game crafting with the sheer abundance of crafting components allows you to have enough ammo and medkits and filters.
Honestly it feels more like straightforward trial and error rather than hell.
I might be mistaken cause it's been awhile but on ranger hardcore you can bring up your clipboard to see ammo counts; I may be misremembering though.
The "harder" experience really is down to not knowing where things are and not exploring enough- even though the levels are linear even the most linear areas still have lots of out of the way places to find stuff, and if you know where to go and what to do you will have an abundance of stuff, even on harder difficulties. Knowing how levels are scripted also makes stealth a very very easy if tedious task, even against mutants (though you have a greater potential to get boned since you can't just play the waiting puzzle game on the surface). Stealthing human areas guarantees you will have plenty of ammo, filters and MGR if you can knock everyone out.
You're not mistaken. That's pretty much the only real way to get a tally on your ammo count outside of the vendors. However, either the game doest tell you about how to get out the clipboard or the prompt to teach you is disabled in ranger hardcore.
I like the feature as even with no HUD, it would make sense there would be some way to do an inventory check at any time.
I stealth through most of those combat missions like the bridge and stuff its a life saver and throwing knives will be your best friend and also don’t forget about the safes and secret stashes

Its a lot more stress free to play ranger hardcore immediately after you play the other difficulties, that way you can recognize qte's and what things you can/need to interact with. Once you get familiar with everything the game is at its best and most immersive in ranger hardcore. Also you really need to be looking for resources constantly, if you do it right you can find filters all the damn time and while bullets arent plenty you can buy some stuff here and there if you know what to do, ive never used military ammo for combat ONCE
Has anyone else literally never used the military rounds? I'm a sucker for saving money in games or just hoarding resources so not once have I ever tried to use them.
Also if anyone feels too scared to try homemade pizza, seriously I highly recommend it. I happened to make some today, it's so damn good and SO easy to make a pizza that's way better than basically any store bought one.
And best of all since it's homemade it's not filled with as much crap, ever had a pretty shitty pizza out of a box that makes you feel incredibly bloated and horrible after? Homemade tends to not do that at all. I just had 3/4's of one pizza I made and feel totally fine. Some store bought pizza's make my stomach churn just after one slice.
BIG TIP
Make sure you mix your yeast in with the flour BEFORE adding any water. Sounds obvious but you might be an idiot and forget like I did one time, adding yeast in later does not go well.
the last shop in the game is quite a ways before the end, for me it's more of a "well what if I need it later" thing

last light has so much better story it s funny that the first game was based on a book but this one had a better story. Then again the sole reason the librarians exist in the previous game is because it was perfect for a movie or a book not for gameplay.

Dude I really love your content. I woke up yesterday thinking about your Deus Ex video that I watched months ago and realized I couldn't remember your channel name. Spent 30 minutes googling different variations of "youtube game reviewer that has cooking segments in videos", then spent another 30 minutes digging around my watch history thinking I watched the video over a year ago only to realize it was actually only 6 months ago. I was only able to narrow the timeline down because I remember watching your video while I was rebuilding my office, and happened to remember taking pictures of the rebuild progress. Went back to the pictures in google photos to figure out the exact few days I would have watched your video based off the dates on the photos. Real Inspector Gadget stuff.

I got the good ending on this game and Im not doing that again, you have no idea how hard some levels are, you have to move through entire areas without killing soldiers . Its very very frustrating. Idk how i was able to do it but it did feel rewarding.

Charl if you take out the journal compass thing and use the lighter all your ammo and stuff will come up on a hud. Though the game never tells you this and I only came across this when I wanted to see what was on that note pad in the darkness.

In the Metro 2033 book it mentions that the Dark Ones saved Artyom from being attacked by dogs as a child
Jeez, that's some pretty important information to leave out in the game.
Game gets a lot easier after finishing it for the 11th time. All the items are always at the same places and the stealth gets easier, you can finish the game with minimal kills and just have to deal with the mutants. You can also find a bunch of gear like night vision googles earlier...
i love playing redux and last light on the hardest dificulty, btw you can see how much ammo you got if you open up your journal its going to show all your resoruces, the worst pwtt wasnt the lack of ammo, it was the freaking gscripted sequences where you have no choice but to fight

I played just ranger mode, it was challenging but not super hard. what I hate about the game is that the good ending is near impossible, I used a guide TWICE and still didnt get it, doing literally everything right

I made the mistake of playing in ranger mode when I first started playing LL confident of what I learned in 2033. I was not prepared for not having key binds memorized and for some reason was really hard to find at the time. Made it through doing a lot of trial and error for certain things but it wasn't too bad all in all.

Question: i havent played this. When a filter runs out, how long do you have to swap in a new one? If its 10 seconds yeah thats not helpful. If it is 1-5 minutes, cant you spend a little without a filter before swapping? Just curious.

These games are amazing, you can be caught but kill the enemy immediately and still remain unseen, testament to good detail, even if unintentional
All the qte’s are either interact or melee button so I just spam both in cutscenes
are there multiple versions of this game or something? Charl and everyone in the comments is talking about how hard it is, but I'm not much into first person shooters and I didn't feel much difference in difficulty playing it back to back with 2033

If I had a suggestion then maybe you should do a period where you just make videos on games you really want to, like the Abermore one. A lot easier to make a video on something you have a lot of passion towards in the moment, might make things a touch easier.

honestly dont play this game the first time around on hard or use stealth, just kill everyone on easy, sure you wont get the good ending but i think the bad ending is nice too and its a shame not experiencing the great shooting mechanics and animations of the weapons.
Yeah is a big problem of metro serie you have unique gun but can't kill anybody if you want the good ending
Naaah you're doin it all wrong, meat toppings go UNDER the cheese, lets the flavor from them bleed into the sauce better, veg on top so it doesnt get too soft.
I love these games but I have huge problems with them. The largest, most glaring problem of all is these games have far, far, FAR too many instances where you are forced to walk behind a character and hear them talk AT you. This is fine for a first playthrough. They're very atmospheric, world building moments. But in subsequent playthroughs you just wanna get to the good parts. You know. The parts where you play the damn game. It's like having a 30 minute unskippable cutscene. Even longer at times. And it happens often. I also don't like fighting human enemies. I think they're boring. We can all agree you play these games to battle inhuman monsters in a spooky post apocalyptic setting while juggling your dwindling resources. It's tense. It's thrilling. Then you gotta fight man with gun and I couldn't care less.
Seriously the cooking sections need to be their own thing and not in the middle of these episodes please
