We stayed in old central Havana and it was a dump, buildings falling down, dog shit on the street, empty shops...it's a tough life yet most people were always welcoming and friendly to us, they deserve a shot at a better life - communism/corruption has stolen these opportunities from them!

There's no way Kurt seems more relaxed in this video, he seems more aggressive and ego driven than usual. I have a strong feeling he's been doing coke throughout this video, as a cokehead myself I can recognize the signs. Like at 45:35 when he gets a text on his phone he's like "who's texting me now? some bitch, fuck off," he wasn't usually that aggressive in other videos. Also when his friend didn't want to drink beer with him at the table he seemed to get kinda pissed off, definitely not as chill as he was in other videos. I went to Havana a few months back. My grandpa is actually buried at the cemetery you passed in the beginning. I thought the people there were really cool even the “tourist trap” locals weren’t very persistent which was nice. But it is quite sad. The city is relatively quiet and it felt like there was a lot of wasted potential from their tourism industry
That's Communism. Inefficiency means potential has to be wasted for the greater good.
This is what makes Cuba so unique , that the Tourism industry doesn't run the place.... yet.
@@bill7817 yes I think they reintroduced tourism very recently and even immigration is still challenging to get in on tourist visas I believe (like Kurt mentioned at the beginning). You can definitely see why it was a hotspot for the wealthy back before the Castro days

It’s a shame since the flight from Florida can be under an hour. I think it’s just the consequence of stubborn politicians on both sides
Being a US Born Citizen to Cuban parents, I find this particular series of yours on Cuba to be very fascinating.
The reality is that Cuba is hanging on for the ride. Appreciate you filming the reality of what it is, and taking it all in for what it is. My grandmother still lives on the island and constantly tells me about the good and the bad.

Yeah, how could anyone believe one cigar is 100 bucks when the monthly salary of cigar factory employee is way less than 100 bucks.
I highly doubt they sell Cohibas for 5 bucks each to the locals and even if they did they wouldn’t sell one to a tourist for anywhere near that price. A Cohiba Behike 56 goes for way more than a 100 dollars in the west but a Cohiba Siglo 1 is around 30 dollars.
@@pekkalanger5076 where do these high prices come from? Is there a limited supply on purpose? How many cigars can one employee produce per month? It sounds like they would be profitable even selling 1 cigar for 1dollar wholesale (so 5 dollars retails would be a good price). Something does not add up - employees are super cheap, tobacco is not expensive.

The cuban government sets the price and they know damn well that there will be a demand no matter what price they set. The prices have more than doubled compared to five years ago. Not quite sure what the general agent pays but if I look at the numbers from a retailer I buy from they have a profit margin of around 12% so it’s not the retailers that take a huge cut.
Cohibas are great but I would never pay 100 dollars for one cigar.
The process of making these cigars aint cheap either. The tobacco for every other cigar are fermented two times while Cohibas are fermented a third time. Supply is also very limited, the harvest have to be of good quality and so forth. It can take years from planted seed to finished product so you can’t just think of the cost in terms of tobacco from any shitty cigarette and labor cost.

Been a fan of Kurt for a while now; I will say he’s gotten a bit more arrogant since I started watching. Maybe it’s just his style of humor but it’s interesting to see the evolution. This video showcased a very machista bravado, referring to women as “bitches”, peer pressuring his homie to drink, persistently joking on his “friend” about him being Asian, joking on local food (although it did seem terrible lol) just a very degrading and elitist macho man tone. What made this channel awesome was the focus on local culture, seeing the “real” version of these foreign countries and feeling like we’re tagging along on a awesome trip, but somewhere along the line his attitude changed for the negative. Hopefully we see some refocusing! Just an observation from a fan.
