Iroh was said to have travelled the spirit world to find his son. If we consider that his son was killed naturally, maybe there was preconceived notion that the spirit world is an afterlife until it was revealed to be just another world where spirits reside. But if so then Iroh simply decided to live in the spirit world, as an immortal spirit to act as guidance to whoever will be lost there as he also helped Tenzin.
@ryangamble6697 it's confirmed in atla that the spirit world wasn't commonly home to.humans after passing so I doubt after decades of being there iroh never found his son but is able to meet with the avatar tenzin and zuko immediately personally I think it's more likely his son just moved on
I don't even think Iroh is dead in the traditional sense. He said he left his body behind which is how they usually enter the spirit realm. Body goes limp spirit enters the spirit realm. Odds are one day he just entered the spirit realm and his old body slowly died but he didn't die as such himself.
Fun fact: just saw in season 1 when aang is lost in spirit world and iroh is captured, he actually sees Aang fly by on Rokus dragon in the spirit world. He's always been connected to the spirit world, the entire show.
He is top 5 of all fiction. We should all inspire to be like him. He is the wise silly uncle but he has many demons and done much wrong in his life but we can all learn from our mistakes and lead a better life and in doing so lead by example.
I mean, there is a lot of things you must do by yourself, otherwise it just wouldn't be right. Iroh directs you towards the answer, but doesn't do it for you, and I think it's the right way
Not really because in our reality we have the discerning mind active . We can control our emotions and not act on impulses. But in the spirit world you lose that mental faculty. Whatever you feel will be amplified. @@LucisAurel
Iroh’s dressed in Earth Kingdom traditional clothing instead of fire nation ghetto .Sometimes i do wonder if he actually died in his tea shop from ba sing se,and thats the reason..
His wish was serving tea in his tea shop in ba sing se, playing pai sho, and that's what he did, until he peacefully decided to go to the spirit world. Also, after losing his son during the war, he never really wanted power and dominance, maybe that's why he's dressed in Earth Kingdom clothing
Whether we realize it or not, our emotions become our reality. Especially when things turn bad, you must stay positive. “I can make the sun shine?” “Even in the material world, if you look for the light you can often find it! But… if you look for the dark, that is all you will ever see.”
"You always seem to find something you didn't know you were looking for." -Iroh now "While I say it is great to find something you're looking for, it's better when you find something you weren't looking for at a great bargain!" -Iroh then
If they ever make another Avatar sequel we need to see Iroh and Zuko reunited in the spirit world. Or at least Iroh visiting Zuko on his deathbed in a flashback.
After all these years, the best character in the avatar series is not the Avatar, or their companions. It was always that father figure that tried to show you the right path.
I dunno the exact ages, but Iroh was probably in great grandfather age by the time Tenzin was born. So he more than likely grew up with Iroh around, but who knows how long he was alive during his childhood.
Sometimes the best way to solve your own problems is to help someone else.

Iroh is really one of the best role models in fiction, indisputable.
After six months, no one disputed the claim because it is true.
Too true

Call me crazy, but just because Iroh couldn't find his son doesn't necessarily mean he wasn't there in the spirit world.
Its sad that Iroh couldnt live together with his son and other friends. He choose to live "alone" in spirit world and help other.

He didn't die naturally; he was killed in the battle of Ba Sing Se while Iroh was breaching the wall.

Zhao even acknowledged Iroh visiting the Spirit world
Iroh constantly giving everyone a hint on what to do instead of telling them as it is to teach them a lifetime lesson
Iroh becoming the Obi Wan/Yoda of the Avatar universe is so cool
i wonder how old zuko would interact with iroh, they would probably just chill and drink spirit tea
"I missed you Uncle"
Oh my gosh im gonna make myself cry
The surprise Zuko had when he learnt that Korra was talking with Iroh was really neat detail. A youthful surprise in a old man's face.
everyone need a iroh in they life
If you can’t get an Iroh yourself, become an Iroh for someone else
we all have too, called "spirit guide"
Or a master oogway

It seems a bit boring compared to his life b4 ATLA
We all need Iroh today.
Correction, we all need to be like iroh

''In the spirit world, your emotions become your reality''. So many references to eastern mysticism. Its true. Those who have been there will know.
This can be applied to our reality aswell.

For me, Legend of Korra was a questionable, but one of the things that they do totally right is Iroh's encounters, no doubt.
I’d spend lifetimes with iroh just to listen to his stories and advise. And of course i’ve gotta try the best tea of the intire world too.
