    I am good with my hands, tools, diy etc but in almost every of your videos I learn something new and I see a technique which I haven't thought or seen! Really like it!! Good work mate!

      Thanks, glad you appreciate it. I'm trying to add a few tips into each video where I can. I've been building stuff for a while and like to think I have a few random things to share. Loads more coming soon.

    so many time and efforts wasted while i am doing wrong

    That turned out great, I also found skylights to be over priced junk so made my own but I didn't know how to bend the alloy like you so I made it square, its a great feeling when you put it in after a closed box has been so dark.

    A sooty flame imparts carbon that will truly aneal the aluminum and to retu4n its temper simply reheat and air cool to re-temper. You are doing great sir. One of these days I will have to send you a pic of my 16' cargo. Home is 50 sq ft
    rear 88 sq ft is my shop

      Hey, would love to see it! I haven't had the same experience as you with ali. I'm not sure carbon has much effect on the properties of ali temper? Everytime i've welded ali and let it aircool it is soft af.

      best of luck with that - unless your a F/T forester (I used to sell spares for them - back in the day but I'd Never own one unless I had a commercial use for it - each to their own I guess)

    Great video, I’m looking to buy a 2150 L38 once I have the money and build. I was curious to understand how many hours you’ve put in and how much it’s cost on average?

    • @brendontait6968
      @brendontait6968  6 лет назад +1

      I'm not really keeping track of investment in time or money. But both add up a lot faster than you'd likely think. The box was about $2.5k USD, everything takes me a day to do.. no matter how big or small. The box took me a day, the roof took me a day, the deck took a day(twice), the doors took a day. Bending the skylight trims took a day. Installing lights took a day. I expect the total build will cost somewhere around $20-30k USD and a LOT of time. But the investment totally depends on how you want it to come out.

    • @nlomas
      @nlomas 6 лет назад

      Brendon Tait yeah I’m budgeting now but i live in central London so nowhere to work on it sadly. I may have to get the box built but for the basic structure companies here are charging 20k

    • @CosmicSeeker69
      @CosmicSeeker69 4 года назад +1

      @@nlomas use any commercial refer body builder - It's not rocket science - IF you're on a budget you can find them reeeeeealy cheap sometimes but they'd probably need a wrap to look neat - good luck..

      Hey, glad you took something away from it. When I told the guy at the aluminium shop that I was going to bend the flatbar on its long axis, he was like - that wont work, even if you have a great bender it will split. I'm going to be including a bunch of other useful tips in my other videos too.

    @patrickmaloney6440 6 лет назад +2

    Love your videos fella! The alu forming tips blew my mind. I'd never imagined you could do that without splitting it!
    Are you going to fit any kind of locking device to those hatches?

    • @brendontait6968
      @brendontait6968  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks mate, appreciate the comment. The guys at the aluminium place I bought it from didn't think I would be able to bend it like that either. The hatches actually have little locks on each handle. If I get the time, I may modify the outside handles so they don't work, irrespective of if the handles have been locked.

    • @brendontait6968
      @brendontait6968  4 года назад

      Thanks... but the fuel economy isn't the killer. It is probably the most affordable aspect of this truck. Don't get me wrong... the fuel economy isn't great and if you compare it with something like a car, it's quite offensive. But with the category that this truck sits in over here... the road taxes are what kills it (more expensive than the fuel it uses). Repairs are also spendy.

  • @Gantzz321
    @Gantzz321 5 лет назад

    like the aluminum bending tutorial, but I don't think he really accomplished anything by putting that ring around the skylight on the roof. Because at the end of the day you still have a seam between the bottom of the aluminum and the rooftop, no different than the seam between the skylight and the rooftop. To be honest you have just introduced a bunch of new areas for water to get in. One additional layer or seams all the way around the skylight for water to get in, and if the piece of aluminum is not perfect then it can introduce a water spot to get in.
    The only way to accomplish what you were setting out to do would have been to cut the hole smaller than needed, then roll the edge up somehow.
