Eric is a friend of mine and I am trying to help Behrens set up dealers in the USA. I appreciate what you have said. I believe that a watchmaker is a watchmaker no matter where they are from. If you are designing your own watch then you are a watchmaker and that is that. I love Behrens and believe they are one of the most inventive watchmakers out there.
How does the process work exactly? Does Eric have product surplus to support dealer’s needs? Especially being the uniqueness of his watches… or are you thinking drop shipping arrangement’s? Thanks
Thanks for this interesting journey to Chinese watch making! I knew Behrens before your video but I'm glad that you're highlighting other parts of the world that are not (yet) respected for 'real' watchmaking!
Times are changing and I could not agree more. Like you said, Swiss brands have been making parts in China for a long time, and they're definitely learning from it. Even the GPHG gave the Challenge award to CIGA Design, a Chinese brand, a full year ago. Times are indeed changing and I for one am happy to see it.
Hello Marc, a pleasure to greet you again, the boy's reaction to knowing that it was made in China was funny. You are right with the analogy of cars, China has learned a lot thanks to the commissioning of important brands to manufacture their parts and/or assemble their watches, and the same by cloning famous models. These pieces that you show us today say a lot about the progress they are making in design and manufacturing, it is obvious that they are going for a more demanding market and it is known that they have the potential to achieve it step by step, I think it is only a matter of time. Thank you for this contribution and until next time Marc
Thanks for sharing your view on it and I think it's good to keep in mind that there are other and different options, but obviously we love our swiss industry! The best to you
Marc if you have the chance you should check out Qin Gan, a one man operation from Chongqing with very beautiful hand finishing and one model with a dragonfly automaton. Very inspiring stuff. As for Behrens, MSRP is just half of the conversation. These watches will be extremely hard to service in the future
So far added Apolar and Rotor to my collection. I am looking forward what the brand can offer next ❤. Perigee is a must buy if you are into independent brands.
@@watchestv-com yeah, it is nice to see you as a "Swiss watch guy" bring attention to something else. I plad to add a German made watch to my collection next...
A genuine review on 'certain' Chinese watch brands. I can say there are only a couple. Yes, the Chinese is the king of replicas. In this case, Behrens actually proving the world wrong about Chinese watches. High horology can be attainable at a fair price.
Interesting designs and lets face it, China deserves a fair stab at succeeding after being the manufacturer of parts and copies for so long! I wish Behrens well in their aspirations🙏
Great watches! I have a Navigraph and it’s mighty impressive. I also had people coming up to me at Geneva Watch Days asking what it was and to try it on. The Ultralight 20G and 11G models are next level and absolutely superb. Behrens is on an exciting path.
I love their designs, and movement structures, I also feel that with a bit more focus on finishing (higher-end finishing of the movement parts that are being displayed on the dial side, maybe selective black polishing on certain visible parts), revisiting some of the fonts and their alignment, maybe having curved straps so there is no gap between the case and the strap, they could make some their models a way more attractive. I have an Orion and looking to add the Constellar soon. I am super excited about the brand and Eric is an amazing guy!
On behalf of the brand, thank you Marc and WatchesTV team for your wonderful and well said review. Thank you. For those who don't know much about 𝐁𝐄𝐇𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐒, we have been in market for quite some time and we are all passionate to watchmaking, and simply wanted to create something of our own. Though the world is facing lots of issues, yet shouldn't stop anyone with passion in watchmaking. That is, shouldn't be limited by geographical boundaries. We will continue developing both our brand and our timepieces in the future. Thank you for your support. Also thanks to all the comments here, though some still rather race concern or a bit political, that's fine. As long as there is support, it's good for us and we will simply continue working on new projects for future to impress watch lovers.
Observation: The Behrens website tells very little; whitch tells me alot. They are newbies founded by young newbies. The "about us" is 2 long-worded sentence/ pragraphs that are intentionally nebulous. Craftsmanship is not important in that. Basically I would expect cool looking whimsical gumball-machine- esque but no dress watches or high horology. With most models at $10k they don't justify why. Seems all componets are outsourced but from where? Swiss made or N. India?
Right now, Behrens is much more focused on watchmaking itself and also focused on B2B. They try to get more exposure with dealers and watch press, instead of hiring a marketeer to make nice websites with a brilliant "story" in the about us section. At some point, they need to invest in marketing and a "beautiful" story , as it has no "heritage story", I do agree .. but your comment is just unfair to newer brands that focus more on watchmaking itself than the whole business segment of it. The fact they are present at international watch fairs tells you volumes. It's much more interactive than a website with nice marketing script. People can ask question and have hands-on experience. Just because you can't be present there at those watch conventions and you dislike the website, doesn't mean they are less legitimate than other brands.
I've only recently gotten into looking at Chinese made watches, to be honest. Until now, I've been buying the odd Swiss & Japanese timepieces. I sent for an Agelocer tourbillon & im totally thrilled with it & i think I'll be looking even closer at other micro brands coming out of China. I mean, who would turn their nose up at a Ming vase? I would never be able to consider ownership of something as beautiful as a tourbillon if it wasn't for the efforts of the Chinese.
Very interesting to see these designs and to find out they are China made.....will have to see if widely adopted....Agree is swiss equivalent at least double...However for a brand not yet established difficult to hit the buy at these prices.
I think a big difference is design language is often built over generations. And that lineage is important. Their watches feel disjointed and don’t call back to anything. Like CW was, though I think they’re finding a groove. Perhaps their clear engineering prowess will combine with consistent design as they move forward.
1) Kia didn't name their brand Behrens. 2) Will Behren's allow a tour of their work facility? 3) Let's see Behren's worker conditions and home life? (I'm snacking on "Emmi Roth" gruyer coincidendally)
When Chinese brands name themselves in a Chinese romanized name, people complain they can't pronounce the name and they need to invest in a better english name lol. When brands names themselves in a proper English name, people complain it's too vague and it's not the name of the watchmakers lol. I'm sure you can visit Behrens in HK, they are a small atelier. You also think it's made by 15yo kids in a sweat shop? lmao. Your vision of the Far East is so outdated . It's sad people still focus on prejudices while the whole message of the video is to get rid of those prejudices and observe the evolution of watchmaking in the Far East in a more open manner.
there is no doubt that chinese watches are the most sold in the world, in fact of chinese population....brands like seagull or atelier Wen are well known.....i mix my watch collection independet from watch patriotism,,,,be good
I buy from companies based in countries whose values I support. Where I have a choice, I buy products made in countries whose values I support. (Don’t even bother replying if you don’t agree.)
Did you add the "when I have a choice" qualifier to get ahead of the eventual comments pointing out how 90% of the things you use on a daily basis are likely made in China, or do you think they don't commit human rights violations in the name of late stage capitalism as long as you only "buy products made in countries who's values you support" when it's convenient for you to make the choice? You don't really get to slander a company for being made in a country with controversies if you buy things from that country otherwise just because it's not convenient for you not to do so. Are the most important parts mainly made in CH? Got watches long time ago from India and I do not believe, important parts are made in India.
Skeltonized chain driven watches are some of my favorites. Genus, Zenith.
Not that many examples of this out there for sure. Thanks
