  • This video is the first part of a much longer video I previously made, where I demonstrated the whole process of making the silicone and corn starch mold and the casting of the plaster rock and the painting of the rock. This video is only for viewers that are interested in the mold making and the plaster casting process. I will soon post the video where I demonstrate only the part where I paint the plaster rock.

You can skip the corn starch all together and the molds last a lot longer. What you do is put some dish-soap into water (a good amount but don't go overboard.) Squeeze the silicon out into the water and you can work it in the water without it sticking to your skin. As it begins to stiffen, you can kneed and shape it similar to the cornstarch method.
Arrived here via originally discovering you from the sculptamold replacement video. I've been using that mix myself ever since! Cheers.

It is great to see a fellow South African making dioramas. We get to see things that are locally available to us and you telling how much it cost in Rand is great!

If you want your cheaper molds to last longer add a lot less cornflour and after it’s cured on the positive - before removing it, cover the back of the mold with a thick layer of plaster with a few registration marks to match it up again later. This will give your softer silicone mold rigidity. Place the silicone mold into the plaster mother mold cast your positive into the mold, remove the mould from the mother mold and pull out the cast.

I suggest you invest in a vacuum sealer or build a small one take that piece of coal with your cornstarch and silicon mixture cover it as you did but don’t keep pressing it down with your hands it makes it make trace elements in the mold so once you have your cold covered in silicone you stick it on the damn vacuum sealer to a garbage bag over it that’s flat and unopened cut on your vacuum sealer and watch for the garbage bag around yo coal Leave it running until you can squeeze the silicone and feel that it is hardened

Very interesting. One question. Can I use corn flour instead of Corn Starch?

Good video, but the music is VERY distracting and loud with earbuds.
