Worked .... on a late 2011 desktop iMAC. Many other videos do NOT mention the "option" button. But once the "recovery mode" / internet process is done, the APPLE logo / boot sequence begins but it does NOT start the computer ....

well in new macbooks you just need to shut down the computer and when it completely turned off press the power button till it says loading boot menu then press the boot option with settings logo that would open the mac os recovery.
