Building and sticking to good habits is the only practical way to start seeing positive changes in your life. So I asked you guys to list all of the best habits that you can think of and I then ranked them from what I believe to be the best to the worst in a tier list. Hopefully, this gives you some insight on which habits to focus on building first (because you really should ONLY build 1-2 habits at a time. One preferably.) This list consists of some of the most life changing, healthy, and productive habits that I can think of.
NOTE: These are my own personal opinions. People have varying experiences with different habits. Some might be game changing for me, while they might not bring much benefits for you. The key is to TEST them out and see what works best for you.

An extra language is underrated. If you dominate it, it makes you smarter. High volume memory training, recognizing and dominating structures, and being forced to get our of your comfort zone with creativity.
Facts. It can also help you get jobs or relationships with people from other countries. It's way more useful than an instrument as someone who has learned both
Yep and having access to socialize with an entire country!
This, plus being bilingual makes your brain more resilient to cognitive decline. I remember reading some study that came to the conclusion that bilingual people develop dementia on average something like 5 years later than people who speak just the one language

Everything to do with health is S+ tier
I'm 28. Until 6 months ago I worked with no days off, grinded all the time, worked on improving myself. Then my back gave out and I cannot even work half of the day. If I do I wouldn't be able to work the next at all.
If you don't prioritize your sleep, eating, exercise, mental well being, exercise, rest and other things that translate to your health, you're not only accumulating hundreds of thousands in medical bills if you live in US, but also losing years of progress in the future.
If you don't live a wholesome, balanced and happy life, you're setting yourself up for failure
Health is literal wealth.
@@anthonysosa9299 deep
@@KidnapT wow so fricking deep. Totally not a phrase we’ve heard 100 times before
You said exercise twice lol.
Great advice
I'm intrigued by how the reasoning for so many of these points to external validation. "Makes you more well-rounded", "makes you more appealing", "makes people want to date you". Imo, the only habits I've successfully incorporated into my life are ones I did because I didn't care if anyone else would care or not. *I* wanted to do them for *me*. And if everyone else dropped off the planet and wasn't there to compliment me on my discipline, I'd still do them.
I thought the exact same, learn an instrument because it makes you attractive? No way, learn an instrument if you want to groove or resonate with it.
All of these external validations and "get things done just for the sake of it" are kind of missing the point of having healthy habits.
Can't blame him however, self improvement channel have long changed since the Jordan Peterson mania of 2020.
Yeah, the reasoning for some of these was pretty thin. For example for a thing like dancing I think the main thing it does it gives you confidence and teaches to deal with the uncomfortable thought of what do the others think of me now. Dance is a performance and the dancer is the center of attention. Learning to deal with this attention in a healthy way is super useful especially early in life.
It will make things like doing presentations easier, makes it easier to talk to bigger groups of people and it makes you less ashamed and cautious about your inner insecurities. It also helps you open up and be more comfortable with your body. Some happenstance of late night partying and leading the dance party are pretty worthless in comparison. There are other ways to do this. Acting is one other way. It teaches you to let yourself go and open up. Try something hard and get isntant feedback on it. So is singing.
exactly what i thought
agree, I noticed that too from the narrator. Kind of strange. Kind of gives me narcissist vibes
Well I do have one thing to say about this.
The majority of people watching this video probably live in a space of competition by design. Expanding on that, a few of my own long term goals would include raising a decent family and building a business that helps serves people. In order to achieve those at the fullest level, I have to view myself as an asset. That’s why being more well rounded (aka VALUABLE) is an important part (to me.)
It’s weird because I can see this coming across as narcissistic or selfless. For me life is more than just getting through it with/for yourself. I personally feel a responsibility to push out of my comfort zone to serve people to the highest level.
Now I don’t know if this is healthy or not because somedays I wish I could feel nothing and be nobody. But if I don’t work hard, I’m letting my ancestors down and I’m letting future generations down.
Let me know what you think
For anyone who wants to shower cold:
I tried showering cold for years, but was
never able to do it very cold consistently.
Until I started doing 5-10min warm up exercises beforehand.
(like Push ups, Squats etc.)
When I'm warm, I can shower with the coldest Setting.
You just have to power through. Part of the point is to be in an uncomfortable position. Warming up defeats the point of doing it. I’m 15 and I’ve been doing it every day for half a year. You have to send it, it’s not gonna hurt you.
@@EthanConiker-oq1uy It's the same for me bro, I have been doing cold showers daily since 3,5 months so not that long as you hahahah, but this whole habit It's mainly mental when it comes to going through it :) . In my mind it is also easier to force yourself to do it in first part of the day especially just after waking up when we can go more easily through stuff that requires more limbic friction from us like this HARD STUFF like cold showers etc. Btw. keep it up bro , you are not alone in this habit , Stay hard!
I kinda wanted “Bad Habits” at even lower tiers as knowing which ones to fix and avoid are just as important
@@ImprovementPill Maybe an idea for a future video? Tier list of common habits you should avoid/get rid of.
@Thomas Serrano gaming can sometimes improve your brain function, though. Playing horror games can help you deal with anxiety, by forcing you to take action in fear (just like a cold shower). But ofc there's alot of downsides, but still. Maybe not S tier bad
@Dominik Gorczyca you're kinda running into the problem of doing a 'bad habits' video. Anything is fine if it's done in moderation, bad in excess. So all the bad habits would have the caveat of 'excessive'

@@roykong7024 I think that it depends on the person I listen to a lot of informational podcast and My mind rarely drifts off even while I’m working and listening.
@@localidiotluke True, that is a very fair point to make. However since it is so dependent on the person, it would be preferable to recommend them reading still. As you wouldn't know if every person you give that advice to would do as you do. At least for reading it would assure attention when they are learning.

Putting "learning a foreign language" in the B tier is such an American thing to do. Even after learning English, learning other foreign languages can be so beneficial for your career advancement, in numerous types of field. It also leads you to being more curious and interested in other culture, from which you can learn a lot. Most people's vision of culture is so western-centered, we don't read enough books written by Asian or African authors, or we don't watch that many movies from other countries. From these, you can get so much insight, instead of just keeping hearing the same ideas over and over.
English is the most important language. Deal with it
i am not an american but i wouldnt learn another language other than english unless it becomes necessary for my goals. Surely it has a lot of benefits its just that learning a language would be the most demanding task because it WOULD take years and years to master not mentioning you also have to focus on other skills like social, financial skills and building up your career.

Technically it could fall under "Exercise," but specifically "Walking" is an extremely healthy habit to get into, which I feel should be distinguished from other exercise because it can be done for actual practical use outside of your scheduled exercise. We spend so much time sitting at our computers or on the couch watching TV, people forget to simply get up and move. Our bodies are literally MADE to walk, in the past that was literally the most common thing people did because we had to actively move around to hunt and gather food. Not only that it's the easiest exercise to get into since it doesn't put as much strain on your body as it is low impact compared to running, and it's easier to do for longer periods of time because it doesn't tire you out as much as other exercises; plus you can walk pretty much anywhere as accessibility is greater, unlike weight lifting which you probably can't do at lunch hour at work/school, but you can go for a walk. There's also choosing to take the stairs instead of the elevator, but that's still technically walking...just harder walking, but it's less accessible than just walking.
Another habit specifically for artists.
"Sketching," although this could technically fall under "Practicing a Skill" since it helps you become a better artist. Sketching as is, is something that can be separate from the actual artistic skills that one does and incentivizes the action of actually putting pencil to paper and building confidence. As opposed to actually just learning to draw/paint based on your artistic niche and is something that benefits anyone in the field of visual artistry. Even sculptors benefit from sketching. I would even recommend it to non-artists as it can help people simply learn to observe the world around them or to develop your creativity, but for those not committed to art it is less of a priority since those same benefits can be built from other areas as well.
Definitely S-tier for Artists but probably B-tier for non-artists.
Wow really great comment
walking is like meditation
i found that sketching while walking is also great if you want to get more loose with those sketches
just watch out to not get hit by a truck or do it in your apartment
Unfortunately, our boides are certainly not made 'specifically' for walking, or... literally anything.
Humans transformed into bipedal creatures relatively recently, which means we still deal with a lot of issues.
We have difficulty with giving birth, pooping, and even eating, because our thighs had to get narrower in order to provide our bodies with more balance, so we can walk upstraight. The fact humans can choke to death is caused solely by the fact we aren't leaning forward like monkeys do.
Actually cycling is better than walking. Cycling has roughly the same energy consumption as jogging but you can't easily lazy out and just go back to walking. After all you need a minimum speed to stay upright.
I have found it way easier because of it. Also if you go out in a park or something cycling also allows you to move fast enough to have a constant change of scenery.
I think Socialization is on the Low S tier. Socializing is everything in this world. You can't improve or progress in life without Socializing. Like this, I'm
learning right now, while socializing with you at the same time.
Watching videos on youtube is not socializing my friend
@@gabrielbagdadi6891
No it's supposed to prepare you.
I'm improving and progressing without very much socializing actually. I can socialize fine, but it's not exactly a must beyond base level social interaction for me.
@@gabrielbagdadi6891 There is many types of socialization one being in the comfort of someone. sure it isn't really "socializing" to the majority of the mass but it kind of is and could still be used as an example as "its an everything in this world"
@@bxkos8189 no its just not socializing. Do you not understand how different it is talking and hanging out with people compared to watching a video of someone who doesnt communicate with you or even know you? You build 0 social skills watching a youtube video. Its literally like watching people exercise and then saying youve exercised with them
A simple habit that i often use to change my way of thinking between passive and active is DOING CROSSWORDS, it's even better without looking to the screen and trying to imagine the words. Then after some minutes in crosswords i find myself more able to do more complex intellectual activities.
Why not looking to the screen?
@@SP-qi8ur Well, without looking you are going to train your brain for imagine letters and remembering their positions , it's harder for him and I realized that after hours and hours on pc I struggled a little to made up mental images and became less creative, so this little habit helped me out. Yes, I was really surprised that he put cooking only into A tier. I'd argue it's an S tier habit since diet has such a massive impact on your life.
@@phoneguy3409 100% agree! Whenever I eat unhealthy food I always feel lethargic and struggle to find the energy to do anything productive.
I would put learning a language as a High S Tier. Especially when talking about people whose mother tongue is other than English. Studying English allowed me to pass my finals in the IB Programme, which was the biggest self improvement experience of my life. Not to mention I get to move abroad soon thanks to my high scores. Plus, the ability to understand fluent English is the king when it comes to accessing countless hours of educational content out there which is primarily created in English.
This video is an absolute gem, thank you so so so so much for all the life-changing work you do; making the world lighter and brighter
is it?
I highly disagree with the low A tier rank of English language. It is a no brainer S tier for anybody who is not a native English speaker. Not just for financial reasons. It is a must have if you want to learn anything online, get the latest (or a lot of times any) information about a subject. If you have to rely on what is translated to your language, a lot of time you only have access to low quality or outdated knowledge.
@@ImprovementPill That is why English is S tier :) First you need to know about these useful habits. Then you have to aquire information how to build these habits. Quality knowledge is key. For most topics, it is very sparse in my language (Hungarian, roughly 15 million speakers worldwide). English is not simply the language of the future, it is the language of information exchange in the present. It is an essential skill if you want to start improving yourself.
Idk why it was included in this tier list. If you're listening to this video, it's overwhelmingly likely that you already know or are currently learning English

Thank you very much 💪
Soooo we’re gonna ignore the bars from 4:10 - 4:18? 🔥
Its actually depend upon the person if you'll ask Albert Einstein he will probably answer Visualization is a top tier
yes, it's the main factor on how doing your tasks done
Sadly we can't ask him ;( xD
This list is for average people by following it , they may become above average. For exceptional people it doesn't matter.
@@NitinBisht94 nah, his list indeed is subjective.
Running has to be the most efficient exercise, it’s practically free (most of the time) it helps countless physical aspects including joint strength, endurance, and most importantly one of the best if not the #1 best trainer for a tougher mind.
Great video! Call it confirmation bias but this is exactly what I've been working on the last half year. The benefits are really shining through. I had a some "A"s and "B"s before, but the "S"s are definitely having a much bigger impact. The future looks much brighter and I encourage anyone to follow through with the insights in this video.
I find it funny that at this point pretty much everything has a tier list, I mean I don't think there's anything that someone could say which doesn't have a tier list.
There aren’t many people talking about journaling so here I am! To be frank it helped me a lot to reflect on myself, behaviors, thoughts pattern, needs, desires and more. Journaling also is extremely therapeutic, it helped me go through hard times and I haven’t looked back ever since I started. It makes you more grounded as you’ve let out everything and helps you move on to better things. It is an S tier for me!
Agreed, same thing for me
what do you journal about? do you just write about what happened each day?
Very organised and well informative video. Thank you for merging everything into one video. Great work!
This is probably the most practical life-changing video on RUclips, no cap
Excellent video Improvement Pill! I would personally put Meditation as the number one habit to cultivate in the S-tier, if one is able to master it, and get to a place of solitude/fulfilment in oneself, everything in one's life improves, relationships are more harmonious, a greater sense of well-being emerges, focus and concentration becomes one-pointed and you're able to accomplish whatever you set your mind to with relative ease. I like to think once you're genuinely content and happy by yourself; you eventually come to peace of mind, your presence is significantly more noticeable and in the world you're a more impactful human being wherever life takes you.
This video goes hand in hand with the book Atomic Habits, an absolutely incredible book
agree! Atomic Habits is one of my dozen books I read again and again and again.
Great video man, great to have an overview of everything
This is actually a pretty cool way to present Habits,
making me think more about my goddam life.
Thanks, man, love your works.
Following channels like Improvement pill. First habit to start with!
"Learning an instrument will make you more attractive"
Never have I agree so much with this guy
I wish I was but if nobody listens to you then what's the point
@@planetary-rendez-vous if you are learning something solely to impress someone then it's better not to do it.
yesss bless you for making this video I've been needing thissss 🙌
This video is fantastic! I've wanted to get into some better habits to improve my life, so it is nice to see a bunch of them stacked next to each other and compared by relevance. I've decided to pick up reading as a keystone habit and Studying, getting sunlight and budgeting as some lesser habits.
This is a bit of an obscure habit I've recently picked up that I think others here could benefit on. I bought a hand grip strength trainer and whenever I'm sitting down relaxing watching something where I'm not using my hands, I pick it up and just squeeze it. My grip strength is now getting way stronger and it's useful for so many random things. People work out all the muscles in their body but forget the parts that they do everything with - their hands!
Great Video! The one thing I will say is that there have been several recent studies linking messy rooms with intelligence and/or creativity (after this vid was made). I have many of the habits on this list, but I find that a clean room was something that drove me insane and caused a lot of unneeded stress and anxiety. For creative types (I play music, make abstract art (Colored Pencil and Acrylic on Canvas), and write poetry). it can actually work against us and our mental health. My therapist agreed with me that having drag out fights with my folks (Parents, and yes even my brother sometimes) played at least some small part in my depression. I just wanted to get that information out there. Some neat freaks and minimalists won't or refuse to hear what I have to say and that's fine. I just wanted people to know this information I found. Cheers and thanks for the great vid!
You know, that actually makes a lot of sense, thanks for pointing it out! Also, everything in the same correct, expected place is boring 🤪
respect for not putting watching improvement videos at s tier
Dude this was an amazing video. Thanks for creating / sharing!
I thought S tier is meant for OP stuff and is likely to be nerfed.
Lmao
Lol exercising is too powerful
Maybe in the next Earth patch
Underrated comment :ddd
Habits in Order:
S Tier: working out, bullet journaling, reading, meditation
A Tier: cooking, working (on your projects), writing daily, socializing, listening to podcasts, practicing a skill, dancing, learning an instrument, grooming, chores, studying (academics), intermittent fasting, self affirmations
B Tier: daily sunlight, cold showers, visualization (paired w/ action), budgeting, keeping a diary, making your bed, watching self-improvement videos, learning a new language, drinking water when you wake up, resting your eyes, stretching
Not really a habit (reliant on other habits): waking up early, sleeping early, being mindful of your posture, being mindful of your words.
Focus on building 1-2 habits at a time and the ones that will give you the most benefit at this time in your life.
thanks was looking for this
Thanks
kind of shitty list, mostly the bullet journal on S, and other stuff above others
hey, i know this is late and I really want to begin reading. Actaully I already read the hobbit, but what kind of books should I be reading. Like should I read novels or should I do the ones that are informational like "ways to motivate" kind of books. Thanks.
@@morganmanesh5142 Hi! For me it’s really important to read all kinds of books because yes, non-fiction books give you knowledge that you can apply in the real world and self-help books target specific problems and give you concrete solutions but fiction books show you other worlds, boosting your imagination and creativity and also increasing your vocabulary.
So yeah, you can get different but valuable knowledge from all kinds of books, you just have to search and have fun in the process:)
Also if you liked the hobbit i would recommend you to read The Kingkiller Chronicle or the fantasy books from C.S Lewis. hope this will help you!
bullet journaling literally changed my life! The mental clarity, organization, reduced stress and anxiety is unmatched and it all started by being so confused to how you could put writing on a blank piece of paper at S tier.
The fact you put educational youtube in the B teir is so damn respectable, you were completely unbias and didn't think about keeping your veiwers hooked onto your content for buisness and financial gains over actually helping people, i respect that.
Lol it was so bias
STRETCHING is definitely as critically important as exercise. Yoga and other forms of stretching are INCREDIBLY beneficial and healing to your muscles and connective tissue, as well as your mind, and as you'll see if you study anatomy and physical therapy, YOU WILL INJURE YOURSELF if you don't stretch at all. Make it a habit if you haven't already. Plus it feels amazing! Absolutely delicious at times.
*As a supplement to above:
- Static stretches are ineffective if done pre-workout. They're only effective post-workout (Scientific study). This is written all over military officer physical training guides
- Dynamic stretches are the way to go to prevent injury pre-workout
@@eldwinc1546 And as the information evolves, so will this thread. Currently recommendations are dynamic pre/static post, but some papers find stretching to be completely ineffective for injury prevention and just recommend a dynamic warmup
Streching doesn‘t prevent injury
I think you're right that it's important but I wouldn't put it up there with exercise. Though stretching is necessary for exercise, it's the exercise itself that gives you the most benefits.
Being mindful of your words is most definitely a habit and I'd call it an S tier habit. How you formulate and phrase what you say plays a massive part in how others perceive you which in turn dictates how you are treated by others. Honestly I've never met a successful person that speaks sloppily.
*Slavoj Zizek enters the room*
Wtf you’re right it’s a habit a bad one.
I like keeping a diary a lot because it allows you to reflect on what's happened/where you are going in your life.
Great video! Thanks for doing it
Waiting for Improvement pills' very own written book on self-improvement.
thank you, I used to improve myself in the past few years, but recently, I've lost my way and this video is exactly what I need, it really motivated me and cleared up what to do. Thanks!
It's nice to see this kind of video on RUclips so props to you my friend! ;)
First video I have seen from this channel and now you've got a new subscriber. Have been trying to build habits for the past year and a half and keep failing in most cases, so maybe I can learn something from here 😋
This video is GODLY. Thank you so much for making it! Helped me out a ton and I got a ton of new habits I wanna try implementing into my life.
Patiently waiting on that "improving eye sight" link.....thank you in advance.
The link is in the pinned comment
Thanks for the video. I'm going to take a look at some of your other videos.
Picked the phone to comment that this was a great video! The explanation on every habit was simple and accurate.
As every tier list, I have some differences (for me podcasts is too high for example) but overall I 95% agree. Excellent work!
12:33 a free habit building course, run by a guy who devotes this much free time helping other people finish it. This man is actually crazy nice, you have my respect :)).
This is the 3rd video this week, what's going on man, give us the reason for such motivation and dedication.
Financial anxiety
Great video!
Awesome video, thank you 🙏
Habit to breath.
It's very life-changing.
Deep intentional breathing
Wim hof is pretty crazy I do it day and night
I recommentd to consider ,,streching'' higher. I made my personal habit tier list and combined streching with posture to one cin, which is definnitly placed in S.
Such an amazing amount of quality information. Thank you soo much for this video 💥💥💥
Thank you for your information and your honesty.
Exercises, diet, and resting are, for me, the most important aspects of my life I can improve. It seems like whenever I haven't reached a goal, I can blame it on not having a healthy mind and body. I think whatever changes I make to myself (beliefs and behaviors) or my environment (interpersonal boundaries and living conditions) can be classified under one or more of the categories I mention.
HOLY CRAP IMPROVEMENT PILL! I'M GONNA DOWNLOAD THE VIDEO AND WATCH IT LATER THANKS A LOT FOR THIS ONE!
@@ImprovementPill hahaha
Not procrastinating is one more thing you should work on.
You forgot the habit of goal setting/planning. I would put it high S tier
Thank you for the tips! This will surely help my playthrough
