    You do something I never do, shooting through perspex. I have a love/hate relationship with layouts that have perspex. Curious to see how that large LEGO train layout did large radius curves. I have a soft spot for the LEGO train system from the 80's and 90's when it was a real 'train system'. These days the hardcore LEGO fans have to alter what's on offer and buy non LEGO track to make it serious. I loved that monochrome WW2 layout. That certainly made me look very carefully. I hope it's won awards, nice to see someone taking a risk and being totally different. Thomas Tank love it. But I don't understand The Duck. I also liked the 'no faces' Thomas layout, again bucking the system and makes you look carefully, some nice visual jokes in there.

    G'day Will, great video coverage of the train and hobby show. I was there on Sunday with a friend of mine and also bumped into a couple of mates from the Waverly Model Railway Club who happened to be running the Chadderdon layout, I saw you filming the FFarqhuar layout, and it was great to see you again since the Showgrounds exhibition from last year.
    Keep up the great work mate. Your content is really worth a look at.
    Cheers mate

    Great Video and report from Sandown again Will, To me the best layout was Tybook due to the fact of seeing The Overland running around it, can't wait to get The Overland running on my layout.

      Had a whole range of Triang HO gauge pieces as a kid (1950's) and still have them stored away somewhere. In the eighties I bought a basic set-up in Overland livery and gave it to a youngster, the son of a woman I spent a short time mixing with. She, the kid and the train set are long gone. Always loved the silver and burgundy livery of the overland and rode it a couple of times.

      Glad you enjoyed it! Personally I find the exhibition still a bit lackluster compared to how it used to be. I think it’s definitely more a hobby show than a train show now!

    Hi Will, I was aiming to attend but plans changed. It looks like there were some lovely layouts there for all to see. What would be the ratio of DC compared to DCC layouts there? I am interested in DC layouts personally and curious to know how many of the DC format layouts are being displayed as everyone seems to be pushing the DCC route, but it is quite expensive to go down that route.

    • @WillJamesRailways
      @WillJamesRailways  7 месяцев назад

      I’d say it’s probably majority DCC as they’re considerably easier to wire and control over DC! When restarting back into the hobby I was very quick to switch to DCC and have never looked back!

    • @zedlewis_hobbies
      @zedlewis_hobbies 6 месяцев назад +1

      I know at least my layout, Ffarquhar, featured at the end of the video, is DC, but I really don’t think others are, apart from maybe the micro madness tiny loops. I take pride in having an ultra-analogue layout with funky coathanger contraptions to operate points and signals, but that’s the layout’s gimmick and certainly and exception to what’s mostly on show.

    • @TimsBitsnPieces
      @TimsBitsnPieces 6 месяцев назад

      @@zedlewis_hobbies Thanks for the comment.. everyone and everywhere seems to be pushing the DCC format these days which to me is a Joke ... You can do just as much in DC as you can in DCC if you think about it and design it the right way... I loved your little layout it is very cute.

    • @zedlewis_hobbies
      @zedlewis_hobbies 6 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks Tim! I think that each has their value, but I prefer DC because, as you’ve said, it forces you to think a little more about the physical construction of the layout to capture the desired range of operations. I think its more limited than DCC, but I also think thats the point. Its more fun to demonstrate skill and creativity within tighter constraints than it is to do so in an unconstrained environment. Its more impressive when you pill something off that people would only think you can do with DCC 😁

    How does Eureka models dare show his face at exhibitions? What happened to my Beyer Garratt? The man is sitting on over a thousand dollars of my money and not a damn word of explanation as to what is happening with an order placed and paid for 2 years ago. As someone with a finger on the pulse of the industry Will, please try a bit of investigative journalism. Regards Chris

      I don’t know either frankly! After the 12+ years waiting for K class, R class, 38 Deb set etc runs that they’re still taking money for but not to actually deliver on. I don’t know how they can keep operating.
      Personally I hope the ACCC could step in, as this behavior has been detrimental to the hobby and has put a lot of people off.
      Part of me would love to dig into it, but I’d honestly rather promote and support the people and manufacturers who help better the hobby than do what they have done
