Jim you have such great streaming and video quality! Your overlays, sound board, and interactions with the game and chat are very impressive! Great work
I really wish they were advertising and supporting the competitive scene better especially for the PT. Hoping my friends will watch with me and it will gain some traction.
I've preferred an Esper list, mostly because Drown in the Loch is usually an unconditional counterspell and removal spell that lets you land Teferi on turn 5 and still hold up protection, and also because Void Rend is great in literally any matchup
Love this deck so much but really struggled with lotus combo and my favorite sideboard hats for the deck was 2 copies of Aven Mindcensor! It’s worked wonders against all the tutoring!!
One sideboard tech against Lotus Field specifically that could be interesting is Aven Mindcensor. Field doesn't seem to run a lot of removal but they search their deck a lot.
There is a professional level scene? There was Worlds? It happened in October? I would have loved to watch that. There is a competitive magic scene? Who won MTG Worlds?
How do you feel about Phyrexian Censor in the sideboard as an answer to Lotus Combo? They can't combo win in one turn with it in play and it presents a clock.
I'm just getting into pioneer, but could shadowspear be a good sideboard against lotus combo in this deck? The activated ability turns off the hexproof so the field of ruins can permanently take out a lotus field. Plus late game equip to any body gets you life back for tempo
Ey Jim! Awesome content, like always! Why not counter the Sylvan Scrying/Impulse to avoid that the lotus field player finding the name sake card? It seems like when the deck reaches 2 fields, the game spiral out of control.
I think he was saving it for the big spell, idk as a lotus field player it's much harder to work against control when they counter the pieces to find lotus
Out of curiosity why not play the Yorion version? It seems better to me to have a 4/5 flier that generates card advantage (blinking the thassa enchantment and other cards you can blink)
80 cards makes your deck a lot more inconsistent, and in a format dominated by Rakdos/Nykthos with fast threats you really need to have the right removal on time very early on. Yorion is only good if you have enough extra good cards to offset that disadvantage, and it just isn't the case for UW. Most cards you run in the 80 cards version that aren't in the 60 are just a little bit below rate (mainly omen and narset) and are meant to offset the inconsistency from running 80 cards anyway, so it's usually just better to not have that inconsistency in the first place.
Field of ruin disrupts the lotus field combo right? It can hit stage in response to the activation. Just felt weird to use it in a temple in game 2 (even though it ended up strip mined)

Thanks!
Great list Jim. Thank you :)
love the tournament prep breakdown of thought process behind lines. hydration reminder and get in some standing desk time today

I thought I was the only one who thought Aven Mindcensor was great against Lotus Combo, nice! I love that it is also a clock they can't do much about.
damping sphere is also good tech
Always love a Jim Davis F bomb

I just typed the same comment haha, I love to see Acen Mindcensor worked for you!!!
Ashiok could also work, as it attacks the graveyard to prevent Lier.
5 lands, counter spell, wrath, perfect starting hand for u/w control

Ah, the playstyle of magic that I really don't like playing or playing against.
Lotus Field do be looking like the bogeyman tho
Finally its control time
Favorite stuff to watch is that u/b control gl at worlds @jim
you should invite sunbird17 to host the lotus field episode 😂
The only thing I've learned from this series so far is that lotus field and mono-green are basically the entire meta, lmao

Teferi time ravelled should be unbanned modern > pioneer
Woot
Question, why not run 4 absorbs?
I miss no win condition Teferi hero of dominaria UW control

All these lotus field decks, be a shame if someone ran a shadowspear and LDd them

Lotus field is so damn boring to play against. They have banned decks for similar reasons, they should ban lotus field too
I also think its just not a good deck. If ppl are not prepared for it then it can win, but if ppl come prepared your like a 41% win rate deck.
They did, they banned Underworld Breach. The deck is pretty bad against the field right now but has an amazing UW matchup.
No. They really gotta do a better job telling people when and what the competitive events are
