When I was around 12 yrs old in the sixty's,I was walking alongside the river Thames with my family.Think it was just beyond Tower Bridge.Standing by the wall looking out to the river, I saw a plump lady, completely dressed in white.Hat,coat shoes everything, even her suitcase was white & her face stone white, but she was smiling.I walked past, thinking bit odd not thinking could be a ghost at that age. There were no street performers or living statues in those days.We walked on when I turned back she was gone . . . . Anyone else experienced this lady of the Thames please? 😱
The ghost stories are great, but what I find fascinating are the stories behind the hauntings. Hearing the lore and stories of the actual people really brings these tales to life. Excellent work as usual.
I totally agree and thank you so much Jeff. I think learning about history, people, places and hauntings all go hand in hand, and I thank you for your continued support 👻🙋♀️🙏
Thank you young lady. I can tell how much you care for these stories and it shines through in your videos. I'm an old lady so I hope it's ok to say young lady.
In 1978 I sailed up the Thames to London and moored outboard of HMS Belfast. We had a wonderful visit and found the citizens of London to be very welcoming to visiting American Sailors. I look forward to visiting again!
So interesting to hear HMS Hood mentioned. My father was stationed on HMS Hood and had his orders changed just four hours before its last voyage. I think he suffered from survivor guilt as many friends and comrades lost their lives. We scattered his ashes in the North Sea as a memorial and that was one of his last wishes.
Claire, I really appreciate your comment here and thank you so much for sharing your personal story about your father. I can’t imagine the trauma the loss of so many lives must have brought your father. I am so pleased you were able to honour his past wishes and thank you again for sharing 👻🙋♀️

I always enjoy your videos, & very interested in ghostly stories from Wars, like your telling of John G P Brownrigg. My mother grew up in the north of England during WW2, & she told me many strange stories. One in particular is of a neighbour who's 3 sons & husband all went off to war. One day 1 of her sons came home, she was so overjoyed & gave him a hug, she ran him a bath & told him she'd prepare his supper. She quickly ran to her neighbours to tell them of her joy at the return of 1 of her sons. Some came to her home to meet him & ask if he had any news of their loved one's, but he was nowhere to be found. The following day some Military personnel knocked on her door, they told her the sad news that her son had died in a battle in Belgium.
Hello and thank you for sharing such an interesting story. How fascinating but unbelievably sad too. I wonder if more crisis apparitions were (or are) seen during times of war. Thank you for taking the time to share 👻🙋♀️
My Grandfather served on the Hood. He survived because he was in hospital in Portsmouth with pneumonia when it sank. He never spoke about his friends who died and lived into his 90s
Wow thank you so much for sharing. I can only imagine that serving on a vessel such as Hood and learning of the terrible loss of so many people, friends, colleagues must have been life changing for your grandfather. So sad. 😞
Just settling in to enjoy this Nicola, thanks as always for posting another great video ❤and excellent work as usual 👍. Thanks so much again and every good wish from your Irish friends 🇮🇪 😊

Hello Ernest and Thank you! I am so glad you enjoy the videos and the history behind them too. I love the postcards! They always make me smile for sure 👻🙋♀️🙏
Hi Nicola, I am really enjoying this episode. I never knew of all these places. I find most waterways eerie for some reason; I can never figure out why. I really like all the well researched information. 😊🥰🙋♀️🇺🇸🐾🐾🐾👻
Hi Nicola, awesome live history ghost stories video. I enjoyed it. How are you and Moonie your cat doing? I'm doing well. My cat Benjamin is doing well also. Have a great day. See you next video 😀 your ghost stories videos are always enjoyable 😊
Moonie is ok. She’s all a bit fussy at the moment. When I did the postcards, I had to re-record it as she walked across a coffee table and then fell off it with a crash, but she was ok. I’ll be honest, I don’t know how long she’ll last as she’s so old but she is content and she’s not in any pain. 👻🙋♀️
hi, I'm a new subscriber. I loved this. Although I live in the north East of England, my parents live in Painswick so Gloucestershire and the Cotswold's is an area I know well; I visit at least twice a month. I will definitely be visiting these locations on my next visit (hopefully next week). Thank you for your work
Love your presentations! I nearly fell off my chair when you gave the story of John Brownrigg! He is in my family tree, l know his story but had no idea he is possibly still haunting his old home!
Ah, superb Nicola, great work. Looking at Richards handwriting in the post card that he may have been left handed as his writing leans ever so slightly backwards. Mary’s postcard to Miss Tomlin is just delightful. Thank you so much young lady; take care and have a wonderful weekend. 👍🙏👻♥️
Good point and thank you. I wondered about the writing too as I am left handed and I found (when I was young) I effectively had two types of handwriting; one leant back (as you’ve suggested) and the other went forward with me hooking my left wrist right around. It was always awkward for my family to watch me write like that. I know, the postcard from Mary (1906 - I forgot to add) was great. I wonder if Mary and Madge did become good girls in the end! 👻🤔
@@ghostcasebook1266 I’m left handed too Nicola. I know what you mean about turning your wrist round, ouch. Oh I’m sure they did. Take care Nicola Neil 👻👍👋♥️
Thank you for another amazing video. I appreciate the work you put into each one. I’m learning so much British history. Love the postscripts at the end. Postcards are a lost art. I love the vintage cards so much. Looking forward to the next edition 👻
Glad you like the videos Michele and thank you ever so much for taking the time to comment. I agree; post cards were like an old form of text message in the previous centuries but I find them so fascinating! 👻🙋♀️
Oh, this visit was just the best. I am fascinated with Sarah, who was thrown over by her husband, who somehow thought he would just marry another woman at the local church without a problem! No matter how I loved a man, I certainly wouldn't have done away with myself for him. She seems to have been loved by the people around her. Perhaps there is more to the story than we can ever know. There must be more than one entity there. Thank you for this wonderful video and all the remarkably appropriate images.
Thank you so much and I agree; Sarah’s story is fascinating. What an awful husband she had! I have actually come across several stories of bigamy as I have researched various ghost stories, and it is completely baffling, especially as in many cases, they remarry in churches they originally tied the knot in! Her grave stone is amazing, describing her as a martyr. 👻🙋♀️
The thing I like about this channel (besides the interesting stories) is, I can listen to Nicola's narration and just relax for a little while. It's a bit like ASMR, but I don't have to max out the volume or worry about falling asleep mid-story. 🙂
Wow, thank you! Yes I have realised that I don’t want my videos to be jumpy or alarming, but something that people might be able to wind down to. That seems to be the natural direction I’m taking I suppose! 👻🙋♀️🙏
Hi really enjoyed watching that video brought back some memories as I lived in Oxford for a short time with my late father when we were working away back in the mid 80s great times once again thank you loads for another fantastic and very interesting video looking forward to the next part .
Thank you Mike and I am glad you enjoyed the video. It’s funny how the memories can come flooding back so vividly and I am glad you enjoyed reminiscing with this video 👻🙋♀️🙏
Nicola, so many thanks for another fascinating post. Your beautiful narrative voice and the music selected add to the wonderful stories you tell. No wonder these spirits wont leave these gorgeous locations, even though they tragically lost their lives. They must be ' reliving' the better parts of those lives, connected forever. Looking forward to stories further upstream toward London and beyond. ❤️❤️❤️👻👻👻
Many thanks Annette! You say such kind things to me and I really do appreciate your words so much. Yes we are going to go right along the Thames as there’s so much to cover 👻🙋♀️
I grew up in Lechlade and still live about 35mins away, and I didn't know any of this, so thanks for an excellent video!! However, I hope you wont mind a correction- The Great Exhibition was in 1851. Crystal Palace was in use in 1854, but not for The Great Exhibition ❤
I thoroughly enjoyed this, Nicola! Really well researched and succinctly narrated. Well done! I’ve been down the Thames by boat which was a lovely experience. When I’m in London I make time to stop on London Bridge to look on at the Thames, so many stories and tragedies! I so look forward to your next upload 👻 ❤
Loved your stories of Thames ghosts. Very interesting. Cool postcards at the end 👍🏻Thanks Nicola looking forward to the next one 👻. Oh are you planning a Halloween special? 🎃
Glad you enjoyed it and indeed there will be a Halloween video Linda. I am planning something at the moment and I will do a community update when I know more 👻🙋♀️🙏🎃
Nicola, your narration and knowledge of British history holds the viewers interest. What attracted my attention was your pronunciation of the letter H. You pronounced H as "haitch" the way my father and his family used to. My father hails from Pennsylvania and he served in the US Army during WWII. He was in the European Theater and fought in England, France and Luxembourg.
some say ‘aitch’ and some say ‘haitch’ and in Wales, where I am from, we generally pronounce the ‘huh’ sound. I’m glad you enjoyed the video too Jane and it sounds like your father had a very interesting career for sure 👻🙋♀️🙏
As per usual a fascinating, well prepared and presented episode. The Tragedy of the lost lives and their stories. Thank you for your time Time and Efforts. TTFN
love your stories always wondered if river thames had ghost stories and they do might i add too some of the photos of the deceased ppl they were nice dressers too the men also beautiful clothing thanks for vids like these love em keep em coming greetings from australia ☺❤👍💐
Thanks so much! 😊 local to you makes me so happy! have you been to any of these locations? There’s more to come from the Thames. I was going to finish this video in Bisham Abbey but I’d miss out so many stories, so a series it will be! 👻🙋♀️
@@ghostcasebook1266 I very much enjoy your well researched, beautifully edited and wonderfully narrated presentations. I think you've asked what viewers think of the codas: The postcards and other items from your annals are of great interest to me. I myself collect vintage postcards, although most of them are unused: the ones that have been written on and sent are intriguing. I also collect vintage souvenirs-sometimes things unearthed in a bargain bin in a gift shop (so old, but not pre-owned), sometimes items from charity shops, and the kitschier the better. Most of your memorabilia is in better taste. (I've put this hobby on hold for the time being as I'm in the process of downsizing, although not parting with the aforementioned cards and tchotchkes.) Do you believe that items can be haunted and-if so-do you have any in your collection? 👻 I sometimes wonder what I've brought into my home upon rescuing furniture and mirrors from the streets of NYC, but I only take things in fine condition that have good vibes, and as far as I can tell nothing has any attachments. Or if they do, they don't affect me in a noticeable manner. I'm looking forward to your next video! ❤
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you so much for your kind words. I really enjoy making the videos and finding out about the stories, history, locations so it’s my pleasure to share them with you 🥰
As always so beautifully presented, the subject areas of the Thames is so interesting. I do hope you will do a follow up of this with the London area of the Thames please. Thank you so mych 💕🇦🇺
Hi Liz, yes indeed. I think the next step might actually be Abingdon in Oxfordshire through to Windsor because there’s a whole array of interesting locations in that area alone. Hampton Court will be a video on its own (maybe with some local ghosts at Richmond) and then there will be a video on Central London and another into the Thames estuary. So many stories! 👻🙋♀️
looking forward to further trips down the Thames, even if we have to pass than bun again. what really got me to sit up and take notice was the william morris but, you were well into the part sabout his daughter when I realized who he was and I have some works of his- prints and stuff. and it was OMG I have to back up and think 'this was thre garden where he saw the 'strawberry thief"
Just fantastic stuff your stories are in my opinion the best and most interesting on this subject and the way you weave in a picture of old England is charming 👍😍
This video was perfect as I'm reading the Rivers of London book by Aaronovitch, so I'm obsessed with anything Thames at the moment. Never read it, but I'm going to have to track down a copy of Three Men and a Boat, sounds like something I would love. Once again thanks for another great video!
Yes indeed three men in a boat is great and did much to popularise boating on the Thames as a fashionable past time. The audiobook is on you tube too (read by Martin Jarvis) but the book is pretty short; readable in a weekend 👻🙋♀️🙏
Nailed it again Nicola ! ❤ Tales from the Thames, and there’s a few I haven’t heard before, well done 👏🏻 Beautifully written and narrated as always. Listening to this on break at work on Monday 😮 hectic weekend sorry 😞 No brew, no cake wtf 😳 my life is obviously out of control 😂😂😂
Hello Walking dad! I hope you are really well. No cake? Don’t you have a secret stash in a cupboard for emergencies? You’ll be going thin soon! So glad you enjoyed the video and I did try to include some lesser known stories. There will be more to come as there are so many stories all along the Thames, right out into the estuary. Take care and go and grab some cakes! 👻🙋♀️🙏
@@ghostcasebook1266 I think you’ve just caused the invention of a cake stash locker, this will be made and fitted to the works truck asap 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thank you for cheering up my Monday 😍
I discovered your channel a couple of months ago, and have been enjoying your videos very much. It's great to have another female narrated channel in this genre, so thank you. As someone who creates and presents music programmes for internet radio I can only imagine the amount of research and hard work, including editing, that goes into making each video. Radio is difficult enough at times, so I salute you!! xxx
I absolutely love your videos and I love hearing all the stories. I was shocked to hear about William Morris in this video because i have a book called Beth Russell's William Morris Needlepoint and it has designs inspired by him. ❤
Glad you like the video and you are correct - with regards to fabric and needle work (from what I gather) William Morris’s daughter May was very accomplished and there’s examples of her work at Kelmscott. Morris’s designs were just exquisite, in my opinion. I have tried to fix the link to do the virtual tour of the house and hope you’ll have a look around 👻🙋♀️🙏
I LOVED Oxford. Loved the shops. I found the Thames to be dirty and I was surprised by it's dirty look, but I am from an area in the Pacific Northwest of the US with absolutely crystal clear lakes and rivers. Lucky I guess. I ADORE Kate Bush! My step brother was lived in a small town near Oxford called Horton cum Studley in an 14th century pig farm. HUGE door keys about 1 foot long front door key and a slightly smaller back door key. lol He was stationed at Heyford Airbase in Oxfordshire. His step daughter (My step, step niece) met the Queen when she came for a visit to meet children at the toddler care facility, for the silver jubilee, she was too young to remember but still has the commemorative coin they were all given. I oved England when I was there for a month. Didn't get to see Scotland which I always wanted to do, but my friend was too sick to travel and didn't like Scotland. lol
You have astonishingly beautiful scenery and landscapes in the Pacific Northwest. One of my favourite places. You are right about the UK’s waterways being dirty and right now here, they are dirtier than ever because our ridiculous government allowed dumping of sewerage into rivers and seas recently. Lots of people are outraged by this. 👻🙋♀️
@@ghostcasebook1266 Why are they allowing sewage to be dumped into the water? Crazy! I just remember not bein able to see the bottom of pretty shallow rivers there..here on a summer day you can see 25ft down at least at the lakes!
Thank you ever so much 👻🙋♀️ Fingers crossed, there may be a video on Friday 13th Oct at 6pm UK time but if you are subscribed you might get a notification if you hit the bell symbol 🙏
What an amazing video. The stories you chose are so interesting and your research is wonderful. Thank you so much for taking all the time and trouble to bring us these excellent stories. It's so good and full of detail I'll have to watch it all over again.

Take care Nicola
Neil 👻👍👋♥️
Brilliant presentation, as always. Watching from Scotalnd where we have a few spirits of our own
Glad you enjoyed it and yes, there’s lots to cover in the future from Scotland!👻
Thank you so much for all the work you put into your videos!! As always I absolutely loved it, again thank you!!
You are so welcome Mary and thank you so much! 👻🙋♀️

Good evening I am from Coventry UK I love your videos hope your dreams come true ❤❤❤
Hi Nicola, what a lovely interesting video. Thank you so much for sharing this! 🙋 ❤🇬🇧
You are so welcome! Thank you so much 👻🙋♀️
The thing I like about this channel (besides the interesting stories) is, I can listen to Nicola's narration and just relax for a little while.
Thanks for some cracking stories read with passion and respect 😊
Thanks for listening and so kind of you to comment; I appreciate this so much 👻🙋♀️
Hi really enjoyed watching that video brought back some memories as I lived in Oxford for a short time with my late father when we were working away back in the mid 80s great times once again thank you loads for another fantastic and very interesting video looking forward to the next part .
Thank you Mike and I am glad you enjoyed the video. It’s funny how the memories can come flooding back so vividly and I am glad you enjoyed reminiscing with this video 👻🙋♀️🙏
I absolutely mesmerized by your channel. Eagerly await your next video. 💀❤
Thank you so much 😀 You are very kind and I am so grateful Meighanlynne 👻🙋♀️🙏

Thank you so much 🤗 and that’s great to hear Chris 👻🙋♀️
Outstanding video and very interesting too, fantastic channel. Thank you very much🙂🙂🙂
Many thanks and I am so glad you enjoyed the video 👻🙋♀️🙏
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you 🙏👻🙋♀️
I thoroughly enjoyed this, Nicola! Really well researched and succinctly narrated. Well done! I’ve been down the Thames by boat which was a lovely experience. When I’m in London I make time to stop on London Bridge to look on at the Thames, so many stories and tragedies! I so look forward to your next upload 👻 ❤
Hi Michelle and thank you. I will cover central London for sure and there are so many locations along the Thames still to cover! 👻🙋♀️
Great video. Your voice is perfect for this type of thing.
Wow, thank you! 👻🙋♀️
I really enjoy this channel and love the history and careful narration. Thank you

I am planning something at the moment and I will do a community update when I know more 👻🙋♀️🙏🎃
@@ghostcasebook1266 Can't wait 🎃👻🎃
Nicola, your narration and knowledge of British history holds the viewers interest. What attracted my attention was your pronunciation of the letter H. You pronounced H as "haitch" the way my father and his family used to. My father hails from Pennsylvania and he served in the US
Army during WWII.
That was very enjoyable and interesting. Thanks. Cheers from Oz .👍
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you Thomas 👻🙋♀️
Lots of history there.

Hey Nicola - another great vidoe and of places just about local to me! Fantastic! Really looking forward to the next one 🙂
Thanks so much! 😊 local to you makes me so happy! have you been to any of these locations? There’s more to come from the Thames. I was going to finish this video in Bisham Abbey but I’d miss out so many stories, so a series it will be! 👻🙋♀️
Been on or crossed over The Thames many times. Some great stories here and thanks for sharing as always.
Thanks for watching and I am so glad you enjoyed the stories. Lots more to come in the future 👻🙏
This is very informative historically and geographically in addition to being spooky. 👻
Thank you so much Annika 👻🙋♀️🙏
@@ghostcasebook1266 I very much enjoy your well researched, beautifully edited and wonderfully narrated presentations. I think you've asked what viewers think of the codas: The postcards and other items from your annals are of great interest to me. I myself collect vintage postcards, although most of them are unused: the ones that have been written on and sent are intriguing. I also collect vintage souvenirs-sometimes things unearthed in a bargain bin in a gift shop (so old, but not pre-owned), sometimes items from charity shops, and the kitschier the better. Most of your memorabilia is in better taste. (I've put this hobby on hold for the time being as I'm in the process of downsizing, although not parting with the aforementioned cards and tchotchkes.)
Do you believe that items can be haunted and-if so-do you have any in your collection? 👻 I sometimes wonder what I've brought into my home upon rescuing furniture and mirrors from the streets of NYC, but I only take things in fine condition that have good vibes, and as far as I can tell nothing has any attachments. Or if they do, they don't affect me in a noticeable manner. I'm looking forward to your next video! ❤
Wow, I really enjoyed all the stories, that must have been a tremendous amount of work and it was really exciting to listen to, thank you so much ❤😀❤
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you so much for your kind words.
Thanks for another great video Nicola.
Glad you enjoyed it Stephen and thank you so much 👻🙋♀️
So beautifully put together and narrated. Thank you 🙏
Thank you too! 👻

Glad you like them! You are very welcome and thank you so much 👻🙏🙏
looking forward to further trips down the Thames, even if we have to pass than bun again.
what really got me to sit up and take notice was the william morris but, you were well into the part sabout his daughter when I realized who he was and I have some works of his- prints and stuff. and it was OMG I have to back up and think 'this was thre garden where he saw the 'strawberry thief"
Yes I think his home on the Thames is not as well known as other landmarks but it is exquisite! All of his designs are extraordinary, I think 👻🙋♀️
Thank you so much! This has been so interesting. Just brilliant!! ❤
You're so welcome Joan and thank you so much for your kind comment 👻🙋♀️
Just fantastic stuff your stories are in my opinion the best and most interesting on this subject and the way you weave in a picture of old England is charming 👍😍
Wow, thank you ever so much; this means a great deal to me for sure 👻🙋♀️
This video was perfect as I'm reading the Rivers of London book by Aaronovitch, so I'm obsessed with anything Thames at the moment. Never read it, but I'm going to have to track down a copy of Three Men and a Boat, sounds like something I would love. Once again thanks for another great video!
Yes indeed three men in a boat is great and did much to popularise boating on the Thames as a fashionable past time. The audiobook is on you tube too (read by Martin Jarvis) but the book is pretty short; readable in a weekend 👻🙋♀️🙏
Great video! I very much enjoyed these stories. The effort you go to in your videos is amazing. Thank you!
Glad you like them and thank you so much! I do try to be thorough and I am so pleased you like the videos 👻🙋♀️
Would be really interesting to see a video on Plymouth! Loads of really interesting old ghost stories and myths!
I used to live in Plymouth! I will cover Devon and Plymouth as there are so many stories. 👻🙋♀️🙏

Tales from the Thames, and there’s a few I haven’t heard before, well done 👏🏻
Beautifully written and narrated as always.
@@ghostcasebook1266 I think you’ve just caused the invention of a cake stash locker, this will be made and fitted to the works truck asap 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for cheering up my Monday 😍
I discovered your channel a couple of months ago, and have been enjoying your videos very much. It's great to have another female narrated channel in this genre, so thank you. As someone who creates and presents music programmes for internet radio I can only imagine the amount of research and hard work, including editing, that goes into making each video. Radio is difficult enough at times, so I salute you!! xxx
You are very kind and thank you so much ❤️👻🎃
You're very welcome, please keep making these fascinating, charming and detailed videos. xx @@ghostcasebook1266
I really think you should release these as audio podcasts. These would be great to fall asleep to.

I will for sure David, and thank you so much 👻🙏
Thank you for this lovely video. I so enjoy your work.
You are welcome and I am so pleased you enjoyed the video for sure 👻🙋♀️
Beautifully presented. Thank you
Another superb production Nicola. Now the nights are pulling in in the UK i shall listen in a dark room with a 🕯️
