I am a professional photographer and I found myself lost in the boxes of the industry’s do’s and dont’s. I wanted a back to basics so so bad that i found some expired film in my father’s fridge and started shooting with them in a second hand “toy” camera. Seeing the grainy green photos was so refreshing, it made me fall in love with photography again. So, if you are like me and you want to save yourself from waiting your films to be developed, but still wanting the same experience of shooting, just buy the damn camera and let the gear gatekeepers hate.
I think that's why I consistently pick up my old Fujifilm x100. It doesn't have low light capabilities, it's fixed lens, it isn't large aperture, and the autofocus is garbage. It pulls me back to basics without forcing me to break out one of my film cameras. I love film, but developing is a process. I usually wait to develop until I have several rolls exposed.
These pictures reminds me of when I was kid and digital camera started to come out. Super nostalgic and it reminds me of disposable camera’s quality. I love it for me.
def not $40 anymore unfortunately, i placed an order last night for $60 with a discount code i found and your review definitely came in a timely manner! looks like it'll do what i need it to do
If you want nostalgic pics, better to get an old 2000s digicam with around 5 to 8 mps. If you want high quality in your pocket minus the distractions from your phone, just get any RX100.
Interesting little camera. A bit disappointed with the picture quality. The Papershoot does a much better job, frankly, although it is definitely more expensive.
Hey Jose. Love the channel. I’ve been checking out your videos here and there for a few months. Been debating a light phone for a couple years now. I saw you mention this Snap Camp in another video and ordered one today for our wedding this September. So, my first step down the digital minimalist road. I see the light phone 2’s go out at the end of this month. I’m rrrrreally leaning towards going for it. I think the 2. The 3 looks a little big and I like the idea of the e-ink screen. Anyways, thank you for the videos. They are very very helpful.
Great video! I would love if you started doing more camera videos. I haven't made the jump to dumb phone bc I want to get a camera and ipod/dap first I would've preferred the same pic twice each with and without flash as well as with and without sunlight/natural lighting but the inside the car night pic and dog pic are incredible! Also say hi and pet your dog for me please
Jose you’re awesome thanks for the videos. I’ve always wondered why you don’t get a kospet watch with camera or a smartwatch and ditch the light phone? You’re thoughts please thank you
Never heard of Kospet. I'll check them out. I think the reason why I don't like smartwatches is because their battery life is similar to the LP2 and the actual features are very limited. Take for example public transit, they can't run transit apps without a smartphone around. Or messaging, some services are not available at all. I'd rather have something that doesn't have the ability to run all the apps and services than something that could run them and not do it because of limitations imposed on the OS. Finally, I like e-ink and appreciate its benefits :)
Fun idea but the photos look like they were taken with a poor quality webcam from 20 years ago. What they should have done was used an algorithm like one of the iPhone apps that look like film. That would be a great camera.
Regarding the shooting experience, does it do that annoying cheap camera thing where there's a pause between pressing the shutter button and taking the picture, or does it take the picture immediately?
It is a toy camera. Enjoy the quirks or leave it. There are plenty of options for better photo's or better camera experience. But I really like the idea of not knowing what the results are. Would love to see this idea in a more advanced camera where I can change the shutterspeed and aperture. I love shooting film, but it would be nice to see your photo's sooner.
@Zoomfreaky while I can enjoy quirks, the delay is not a quirk I could ever see being one of them. Especially when toy analog cameras don't have the same issue
Not really my cup of tea. I learned when I was a kid and bought a $20 camera with my allowance, better to have a good camera and not need it, than a really poor camera like this for when you really need it. I have never looked at camera specs when I buy a phone, as now I just always carry a little Sony compact camera with me. They sell attractive leather cases (bonded leather sadly). Still some great cheap rugged cameras at the near $100 price point too that are small and simple and have way better basic features. Even a used camera. Honestly something like this is so obsolete that it seems like E-waste.
I'm pretty sure the images will look great in the right hands. It takes time to learn a camera like this. Learn how it catches light and minimum focus lenght etc. The rest is composition. And it’s a camera, a phone is a phone. On a phone the AI does everything for you with this one you take the images. People create amazing images with worse cameras then this. This camera makes you more creative which in the end make you a better photographer. A smartphone make you a lazy photographer
It's not about the quality but about the experience. Also it has an "old digital" aesthetic which many people like. Also it's €60 you can't complain about the quality when it's this cheap.
That's like... The whole point.. There are professional quality digital cameras. This is not that This is a digital camera with a lo-fi aesthetic It looks a bit like the grainy film camera quality.
The problem here is it’s uselessness. You can just buy an old preowned digital camera and get better results, better compactness, useful features, for a fraction of the cost
If you want a film look why not shoot film! Shooting film is much more emotional! Waiting for the photo and not knowing if they are going to be cool or crap
I love shooting film and I really don't think the feeling can be replicated by any digital alternative, however it is an extremely expensive hobby and not practical by any means.
Because a disposable camera and developing the photos costs almost as much as this camera and that is 30 photos once. It took me a month to get the disposable I bought developed. I want to use film, but I have exactly one place in my city that develops film. Drugstores don't have quick turnaround photo development anymore. If this gets me 90% of the way there for significantly less hassle and actually getting photos printed in a timely manner all for a much more sustainable cost over time, why not use it?
Its like you purposely took the shittest pictures possible no effort whatsoever to emphasis what the camera can do you took a picture inside your car and expected it to be good?? Horrific execution
Drank some koolaid over the Camp Snap camera but it’s been a total disappointment, an over hyped product with image quality and build beyond poor, just got kicked out of its FB user group and was told by admjn to gtfo for merely mentioning its image quality being substandard, what is it, some kinda cult worshipping a piece of a cheap plastic junk? What’s this world full of haters living life with rage, will try return this piece of crap and get a refund
@@JoseBriones I understand that this camera made for beginners or nostalgic people :) I would rather spend 60 dollars on a used film camera :) because in 10 years I don’t want to look at low quality photos made with this camera just because I was nostalgic 😂

all the flaws is the reason I want the camera
Exactly!
Got it for my 3 year old son and we love it! Pretty awesome to look at his photographs of his toys and whatever else catches his eye.
I saw this comment on their website lmao
This is literally the same exact comment on their website tf

So much beauty in the imperfections of vintage cameras. I would trade my iPhone to go back to 90s/2000s

If only they weren’t over $200 these days. Bsfr❤
The RX100 is like $850 more lol

Why does the flash light get two LED lights on the cover photo?

PP = book of Patriarchs and Prophets. What a great read! I read that during my high school years!
Ricoh GR or any used point and shoot could probably do this job better. Nice video!
The marketing of this camera is no screen. A a lot are sold to kids where parents want them to have less screen time
Is this the first version or the 1.5 version? Thanks for the review!

I can plan some of those for the future companion devices :)
How does it compare to paper shoot? Cos I see add for both and some others, seems like the new niche
Papershoot is better.
paper shoot is a tier above the camp snap but is more than double price

Paper shoot is better
Is there a limit to the amount of pictures you can take?
Depends on the SD card you use.

How would you rate the build quality?
7/10
I ask myself, isn't it better a phone camera with some added filters on? 🙂
If you have a smartphone, for sure.
I think they should’ve gone with some nostalgic filter. Some Polaroid/film like style ratio. Now it is just some awful compact camera pictures.
You can download different filters I believe
any idea how the picture quality on this compares to the Paper Shoot camera?
If you search for the Light Phone discord, there are samples there from the papershoot. I'd say it is comparable imo. Both are very similar.

Fun!
for a less than a 100€ get a sony nex 5 series and quality and feeling might be a bit better
These pictures remind me of my old low end Nokia Lumia, that I hd back in 2012, just at a higher resolution.
Not that good for 2024
cool camera TBH
Seriously, just shoot with your phone and edit with VSCO. This fad is so ridiculous.
