A buddy and I used to stay up all night creating real teams and then playing an entire season with the NES version as kids. This game ruined me for other baseball games.
Same bro, same! Me, my dad, and multiple friends turned this into fantasy baseball before fantasy baseball was widely known. We would draft real players and use the previous seasons stats to edit our teams then sim seasons and have something on the line for the winning team or league leader in home runs and steals, etc... We had sooooo much fun simming seasons and tweaking our formula for inputting stats.
Yes! My brothers and friends played so many seasons of this. I acted as sort of the commissioner and facilitated virtual trades and drafts between seasons - all outside of the actual game itself. But the customization within the game made that sort of thing possible. You saying it 'ruined' other baseball games is exactly what happened to me. Never got into another one after that. Something magical about a game that gives you just enough so you can let your imagination fill in the blanks.
Known in Japan as Super Ultra Baseball, and the Japanese version has teams based on the Central and Pacific leagues of Nippon Professional Baseball, and the sprites were changed. The Jitsumeiban has real team and player names.
I love this game so much. I have many fond memories of playing it with my late father. A few of these sport games were the only ones I could get him to play, this was our favorite. I miss him every day.
So happy to see you covering this one again, as it's one of my favourites from back in the day. Regarding the fielding, if you pause the game and press (if I recall correctly) select, it displays the 'hyper fielding' buttons. During a fly ball, fielders can dive across the diamond in seconds, and leap hundreds of feet in the air, making it pretty easy to rob hitters of home runs and base hits. There's also a way to charge your throw to allow you to pick off runners from the outfield. In short, there's a lot of nuance to this one!
This reminds me of something that happened to me. Early into the N64's lifespan, games were coming out very slowly. You had Mario and Pilot Wings and not a lot else. Without knowing a thing about it, I picked up Wayne Gretzky 3D, thinking hey why not, a quick little sports game that I can trade in later. Little did I know this was essentially NBA Jam in hockey form. There was next to no advertising for it so I had no idea. I was pleasantly surprised much in the same way you are about this baseball game.
I spent ages making custom teams in this. A great cheapshot was a really fast runner in the leadoff position with the super power that makes the ball spin around on the ground and nobody can grab it. Slow hit in field home runs everytime.
The best part of this game are the tournaments that PJ DiCeaser used to host on his twitch to determine which RPG he'd play next. AI vs AI, custom teams based on the characters of those RPGs, in Ultra League. Hilarious.
I remember playing this game so much, I still have it, and even though I prefer Ken Griffey Jr presents Major League Baseball, this one's still a good pick up and play, specially with friends
You biffed again my man! I love your content though. This ABSOLUTELY IS a simulator game too! My father, friends, and I all use to use this game as a fantasy baseball league simulator of sorts. We would draft real life players and import their stats by editing our teams players with real life stats. We would then sim a season! It was truly awesome. Admittedly it took a bit of adjusting to get the end of year stats to be reasonable (such as cutting their HRs in half) so that once a season was simmed no player had 100 home runs at the end of the year, but it worked to get reasonable stats with a bit of tweaking! We absolutely loved simming seasons on this game and to be honest I loved playing the game too (with the super power ups of course). Man this video brings back memories. Thanks for reviewing!
One of my favorite underrated snes games. Fielding speed issue is solved by unlimited power points with jumps and slides. Have completed multiple seasons with customized players and team.. It’s just so much pick up and play fun. I Didn’t know about the sequels though.. Why I love the snes drunk.
The NES version was my favorite game growing up. I love the amount of customization you had, being able to make your own team with unique names on an NES cart was, and still is, quite a kick.
I enjoyed the team editing where I created the 1927 and 1960 Yankees and more. Also there is the option for auto play to just watch the games played by the created teams. First played this in 1993.
When I got a SNES as a kid, when I was about 5-6, in 1997ish, I got Super Mario World, Mario Kart and "the baseball game". We never played it because Mario was way more interesting for kids, but I never knew the title of "the Baseball game." Thank you, SNES drunk, you showed me the baseball game!
The number next to the ultra power is the points it cost to use it. Not “players rating with that power.” The rocket power is the broken one as it is a guaranteed base hit. Love that you gave this a second look, I was still satisfied with your first review since you gave it positive remarks.
Could not smash the like button fast enough on this one. This was my grandfather's favorite game when he was alive. He was an ex-cop that was wheelchair bound after an on-duty car accident of duty ~20 years ago. Since it was harder to get out, we used to sit on his bed and play this, Super Ninja Boy and Legend of the Mystical Ninja co-op.
Ahhh so glad you covered this game. One I played the crap out of as a kid & still boot up every couple of years to give a good run through! The power ups in this game are so much fun haha. I also think they did a really good job with the season mode in this game, giving it some great replay value & longevity.
The NES version was one of my favorite games on the system, and the SNES version wasn't bad either. In both versions I'd create a custom Giants team and I'd update their stats every year when Baseball Weekly published the season ending statistics. I forget how I fit William Van Landingham into five characters. The number next to each power actually represents how many ultra points they use, but since you're given the unlimited option it's rendered irrelevant. And the game had a bug where pitchers from a custom team controlled by the CPU would sometimes throw 50mph dribblers that rolled towards the foul line. Nonetheless, both were some of my favorite console baseball games, and after all these years I'm still miffed that the tease about Super Baseball Simulator 1.000 2 in Nintendo Power never came to fruition. (Yes, I know there's an English patch, but still.)
Ah, the fun I had with this game. One of my all time favorites. But for sheer play time and the most fun game I had with a baseball game still for me has to be Baseball Stars original NES version. My cousin and I would spend summers together playing that game, building our teams up, and ultimately competing against each other. For me, my old school baseball games: 1) Baseball Stars 2) Super Baseball Simulator 1.000 3) Bases Loaded (original, NES): For which I have an AMAZING exploit that will allow you to win every game with a complete game shut out and no-hitter. 4) Extra Innings 5) Base Wars
@@JasonSawyer The second one for the NES wasn't made by SNK. There were other successors made for the Neo Geo and made more for an arcade experience than a home gaming one.
I always wanted to try this one. I remember reading about it in one of the snes books (was it the Russel Demaria one?) & remember a picture of a picture of the pitcher using a lightning move. I thought the players were robots because of how they looked.
I really appreciate you returning to this one with a more in depth review. It is a commonly overlooked baseball title that really had some strong points, as you perfectly illuminated. This was actually the first title that I chose when I bought my SNES Super Set back in 1992, so I admit my nostalgia for it is strong. But it's still a fun game to play!
Omg this is the Baseball game i've been looking for, played this so long ago and the most memorable thing for me was the insane power ups you get for pitching or batting. So much potential for a fun modernized Baseball game
Thank you for this video! I still have this cart and while I never had “that” many games as a kid, this was easily one of my favorites. (I also had Batman Forever among others… lol) I’d always play with the Ultra League teams cause it was so wild and over the top, especially with your friends.
I used to love this game as a kid because of all the special powers and it really stuck out amongst the baseball games, and I never liked how overlooked it was. Glad to see you giving it the attention it deserves :)
I still own this game today and my brother and I played it together in the early 90s all the time. Two player is really fun with all the power ups and for a budget title it really holds up because of the great game play. Glad to see you covered this game.
Had this game bought a baseball almanac at Walden books and programmed in the Astros, Twins, Pirates, Rangers, Oakland, and maybe the Dodgers. Had to tweak the home runs down by about 1/3 to get realistic numbers. So much fun. Still remember pitching a no hitter.
My cousin and I used to customize everything and do full seasons. Swapping the controller between us, if I recall correctly, each game. It’s definitely not a pure simulation. But this one and the original NES game were super fun for doing crazy things with our wacky customized teams.
I think the “Simulator” aspect rings true in the area of stat tracking. For its time SBS1.000 performed better than pretty much any other console baseball game in this area. It’s not an exhaustive collection of statistics being tracked, but the main/well-known stats are handled well and covered through even the longest of seasons. Granted… these stats become a bit ridiculous when you factor Ultra teams into the mix- which are what makes this game stand out from a gameplay perspective- but, as a stat geek myself, it sure was nice having all of these numbers updating all season long.
I thought it was weird that you didn’t cover the ultra stuff before but I didn’t think too much of it. I didn’t know that you had missed it entirely. Thanks for coming back to this game.
Thanks for the great review Snesdrunk! I haven't played this one, but I don't know if I could get past the slow fielders. Stuff like that is like the steering wheel in m'pants. Drives me nuts
One of my friends had this game when we were kids, we got in so many fights over who got to use what teams, and calling each other out for using those ultra powers. Great times, love this game.
In '92 my friend and I spent the entire summer crafting Ultra teams. In a tight game my friend smashed what would have been an out of the park homer but I timed it right and my outfielder do the super jump and he caught it! My friend went catatonic for a few minutes after. Good times!
I used to play this game all the time with my brothers. The power that mad the ball orbit around the fielder after he throws it used to piss me off so much and both of my brothers knew that all too well.
This game is easily my favorite baseball game on Super Nintendo. I loved it as a kid and still love it to this day. It's a ton of fun to set up an exhibition game between Ultra League teams, set both teams to CPU controlled and watch chaos unfold.
Oh man, me and my buds would come with all kinds of crazy combos for our teams. Make a player SUPER fast, with no batting skillz, but give me them earthquake powerup. Make one pitcher with 0 speed, but all curve and give the stop ability. You could move the ball left and right off the screen and back on. We had tons of crazy combos. This game truly shines in 2 player.
In this video, it took SNES drunk exactly 1 minute and 22 seconds until he couldn't restrain himself anymore from mentioning "Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball"
I cannot tell you how excited I was to see this game show up in the SNES emulator on Switch Online. This game is hilarious. If you want a real stressful 3 minutes, play a 1-inning game in the Ultra League. You better score 2 or 3 runs in the top half of the inning or you're toast. One side note - the number next to the super power is how many points you have to spend to use it for one pitch or one swing. The truly insane powers like the 200 mile an hour fastball cost more points while the powers like random bounce hits cost fewer points.
Dude thank you! Been trying to remember the name of this for ages. Absolutely loved playing this with my buddy growing up. Robbing a homer with the super jump was instant salt. Wish i could get this for PS4/5.
I can't say for this game, but I know in Extra Innings if you hold the direction and then press throw, the throw will be short and bounce to the base. However, if you press the direction and the throw button at the same time, the throw is WAY stronger. Might be the same for this game?
There is definitely a way to throw the ball harder. I haven't played it in many years but I remember charging up the throw to pick off runners from the outfield. I also remember when fielding, you can use powers and jump into the sky and pick off humeruns. I had alot of fun with this one as a kid.
Hell yes it is, was literally making a video about it myself earlier this week. This game is an underrated masterpiece and has a deep customization system as well. Used to love making my own team and loadouts.
Super Baseball Simulator 1.000 is one of my all-time favorite SNES games. I was always a fan of LJN's MLB Baseball and the Baseball Stars games for NES, and I like SBS1k because it's a great pick-up-and-play baseball game, but it has enough depth to be fun for extended periods of play, too. I find quite often that when I pick a random baseball game from the 32-bit era or newer, I often don't have nearly as much fun right off the bat (so to speak) as I do with these older games. For instance, the All-Star Baseball games on N64 aren't by any means bad games, but the hitting and pitching mechanics are a little too complicated for their own good.
some of the things you get into when you play this game for years and years regularly which I actually did (lol). You can superjump to a no doubt home run, but the timing on it is insane and its just crazy hard to do. We had times where a home run was going to walk an intense game off only to have the outfielder dive 3 times up the wall then superjump and snag the 800 footer in mid air.
when the rocket hitter is up, you just get out of the balls way and throw directly to second. when you had the fielders ring throw activated, you just throw to second instead of first on a grounder, sometimes you catch the person thinking the throw is going to first.
I love sports games with super powers so I'm definitely giving this one a try. My favorite of that kind are the Prince of Tennis games, particularly Crystal Drive for DS. That game also allows for a permanent full power meter. Joke characters that are easy even on the hardest difficulty turn into an absolute nightmare when they can spam their specials over and over, it's great. Doubles are so chaotic that way! You can even pick a trainer, and each of them has their own unique powers so you can make neat player/team + trainer combinations. It was actually the games that got me into the show so that's how good of an impression they left on me. You don't need to know the show to have a good time, but being familiar with the characters adds to the experience. The only bad thing is that there are no translations afaik, but it's not hard to get the hang of the game mechanics and there's always Gamefaqs if necessary.
I had just gotten The Return of the Mysterious Game of Crypticism from the Scott the Woz charity event, and the cartridge in question turned out to be Super Baseball Simulator 1.000. Playing through it for testing initially made me go, huh, this is decent if not unremarkable because for the first 10 minutes I didn't know ultra teams existed. Color me surprised when I did learn of this and they had wacky powers that made the potential for multiplayer go up. I'm not a big sports game guy, but I'll say that I'm looking forward to getting at least a couple of games in with a friend.
We actually played this drunk. My 1.5 year college winning streak (it was my SNES) came to an end due to being TOO drunk, my OF could no longer find baseballs and my friend's gapper in the bottom of the 9th still has never been picked up.

I played the hell out of this game making my own league and players! LOVED it but yes, the outfield was slow and graphics are OK but the play was worth it. Thanks for covering it, childhood memories bro
I love this game. Probably tied for my favorite SNES baseball game with Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball. Little surprised you didn't mention that fielders can jump super high and throw super fast.
Culture Brain was such an underrated developer here in the U.S. I loved their Super Chinese World games on SNES. They have a bunch more good games that were never released outside Japan.
I think it's an okay game, played it for the first time via NSO and lol, had no idea about those ultra powers...which is funny cause I picked one of those teams in my playthrough. I did get 13 runs in one inning though.

I used to play Baseball Simulator 1000 on the NED with my dad, we loved to play that together
I listen to baseball sim gameplay in my AirPods when I play rec softball. I also play pitcher and do the pause poses when I do a power pitch
"Turns into Chuck Knoblauch any time they throw." That was great.
Your sport review videos are the greatest.. have a great day!

This game is also on SNES Online, so you can play it if you have a Switch and are willing to buy NSO.
Man this game is SO good. I've got an active season going right now on Switch.
How do you change the pitcher in the middle of the game? Playing with my son and the pitchers get tired and then throw 36mph every pitch lol
@@davidcoughlin5897 Pause the game then there should be an option to go into the defense and change him.
Extra Innings was the bomb. I still play it.
@@jamesdjl4359 you hit x like three times before you throw it's rocket arm
@@onthemoverealestatephotogr9655 Yes! Same here. I play through some short seasons at least once a year.
You made a video that went over every single SNES and Super Famicom game in 2016? Where can I see this? Must be epic.
This reminds me of that futuristic Volleyball snes game. The players are robots and have super powers chosen by you.
Edit: It's Hyper V-Ball.
Brings back memories! I grew up playing this baseball game. My all time great baseball game no doubt
Always love your vids where yoy go through the sports games and would love it if you did all the Genesis baseball games (and other sports too)
Hell yes it is, was literally making a video about it myself earlier this week.
When your minnesota comes out I get so happy. Well done.
A personal classic that my dad and I used to play as a kid. Was shocked when this was released on Nintendo Switch Online.
I'm not a big sports game guy, but I'll say that I'm looking forward to getting at least a couple of games in with a friend.
okay, I was actually laughing out loud with those baseball skills, that was hilarious. Thanks for the great video buddy.
One of if not the best baseball video games ever made.
Played it yesterday! So fun!!!
Please be quiet, you don't know what you are talking about
Loooved Baseball Simulator - but I always missed the outer space stadium from the NES version.
We actually played this drunk. My 1.5 year college winning streak (it was my SNES) came to an end due to being TOO drunk, my OF could no longer find baseballs and my friend's gapper in the bottom of the 9th still has never been picked up.
Loved this game as a kid! Spent way too much time playing through seasons..lol
That's not possible... there's no such thing as "too much time" playing :-)
@@GOLVEL good point!

Every fielder turns into "Chuck Knoblach when fielding" Noyce!
This game was a blast. I’d love to see an update
Please do Basewars! I got the chills when you mentioned it. Keep up the good work!
Even though it's made by lgn Roger Clemens baseball as always been our go-to baseball game of super Nintendo era and we still play today all my old friends
I played the hell out of this game making my own league and players! LOVED it but yes, the outfield was slow and graphics are OK but the play was worth it. Thanks for covering it, childhood memories bro
THIS was my Ken Griffey baseball game, I made my own players, teams and league, LOVED this game!
Does anyone else hate watching baseball, but loves playing it?
I loved this game growing up.
I truly love this game. Poured more hours into it than any other sports game ever!
I wanna thank you for uploading and have a nice rest of your day
This was a launch title and yet was one of the best baseball games for the SNES.
Didn’t think anyone remembered this besides me. Dope vid! ☮️
Heads-up: the number next to the power isn't that player's rating with the power, it's how many super points that power uses, if I remember correctly.
I used to play this game all the time because it was one of the few games at the time where you can play a season and you would have live statistics.
I love this game. Probably tied for my favorite SNES baseball game with Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball. Little surprised you didn't mention that fielders can jump super high and throw super fast.
I don't think he knew. That's a pretty big part of the game play. There are alot of fun quirky mechanics in this game.
yes yes and totally yes. I got addicted like crazy to this game when it came out on the switch.
One of my absolute favorite games ever! Super fun with great powers, even if the computer gets a bit cheap sometimes. Wonder if a new version of this would be as fun.
My brother and I had quite a few sports games growing up…. But this was by far one of the weirdest… those powers! FUN!
