If you haven't heard of it before you should totally check out Rise of the Dragon on Sega CD. It's a point and click with just excellent spritework and general art. It just has such a detailed yet retro feel. There's something so awesome about it.
Played this game to death as a kid. It may well have been the first game I ever completed. The hit boxes were janky and most of the tracks were never ending curves. Rarely any straight sections to really throttle it up, but the championship mode, the pixel map of the US, the upgrades, betting and police, the mad characters and the music really made it for me. Love it. Thanks for giving it a video 👍
I had played this thing in DOS so when you said it was compatible with the Super Scope I was like "What???!!!" The fact they included an extra mode just for the peripheral is both silly and awesome!
@@coreygeiger81 hahah thank you for reminding me about shareware! I remember playing the shareware version of Doom thinking it was the entire game since I couldn't even read properly yet ^^
The Dos version came free on a shareware CD I had bitd, under the title "Crazy Cars 3". For whatever reason, commercial games accidentally ended up on those a lot!
Your comment gave me an ad when I tried clicking on 2:34, to double check the city skyline. Lol... :) But hey, I do love the '80s and '90s aesthetic of this game. Quite curious if the Valve Steam Deck can emulate this.
Also, I know you've mentioned Top Gear on here a few times (I think), and that's one of my top 10 all time favorites! Have you tried Horizon Chase Turbo for the Switch, by chance? It's essentially a spiritual successor and even had the soundtrack done by Top Gear's original composer!
You just unlocked a deep memory of mine with this. Me and a buddy spent like a whole weekend on this many, many years ago. Good times. I wish we'd had a Super Scope and knew about this. In fact, one day I'm going to have buy one or my life will never be totally complete.
Now that's a cool and unusual use for the Super Scope. That police gimmick also happened in the Sega arcade Rad Mobile, an awesome racing game for that time imho
I remember this from my old SNES magezines. The only thing that jogged my memory was Felicia in the list of racers. Funny how little details stick in your memory for decades.
This looks like a pretty fun game that I've never played before, so I'll have to try it out! I love the assortment of cities to race in too...such prominent locales, such as Boston, Miami, Houston...and Spokane?
@@8thaccount535 I wish I had a Super Scope, because this seems like some fun! I had a nice boxed one a while back that I'd bought from a game store for $20, but it had corroded batteries in it, and it couldn't be saved :( I ended up selling that one a couple of years ago to a collector that wanted it for display and haven't bothered finding a replacement.
@@tithund Nice condescending reply. It may not have been "rocket science," but taking apart a Super Scope and putting it back together isn't very fun and likely not worth the effort. The corroded contacts for the battery compartment were buried deep within the barrel of the scope.
Had this on my IBM PC back in the day on dos, it was a fun game and had a very good aesthetics for a dos game, but I am pretty sure the snes was more than just a port and more like a different design , cant really tell since it was a very long time ago, but I remember I liked this game a lot.
As a kid I liked this game, I knew Titus sucked thanks to magazines like Nintendo Power, but this was not bad. The game was more than a racing game with all these details mentioned in the video, you had to plan carefully your spending here to upgrade correctly your car, try to avoid damaging it during races... It kept me engaged during months till I beat it and that was hugely rewarding. Great memories!
I've enjoyed this game for years and years and had no idea it had a Super Scope mode, or that it's mouse compatible. Titus seemed best at racing games. I genuinely enjoy 'Roadsters' and 'Automobili Lamborghini' on the N64, and would recommend everyone at least try them once. Much like this game, they're not 'hidden gems' or anything, but they're not trash either. They're just something fun to try when you get bored of all the more popular racing games on the console.
Lamborghinis were probably the most popular exotic cars in the 90s. Having this game would’ve been so cool. Wish I would’ve known about it back then, would’ve gotten it instead of Race Drivin’🤦🏻♂️ The backgrounds look cool, well the graphics look great over all. Nice review, thanks 👍
I never played this one, but I DO remember seeing the ads for it, I had to wonder how the heck it would work with the super scope (and the mouse)! makes me wish Namco had found a way to port Lucky & WIld and have it use the Justifier... I'm sure they could've figured something out?!
I actually never played this game. Pretty cool concept on using The Mouse and the super scope. And it's pretty dope that one person can driving the other ones shoot. It's like that arcade game that agvn played lucky and Wild with Mike
I know you mentioned top gear at the end but the graphics look very similar to topgear 3000 that I played a fair bit of but with police and accessories support, cool.
If I remember correctly, it was possible to play with Tidus, the fox on the company's logo, via code. Me and my brother had this game at the time and it was a lot of fun.
I love this style of game, but I've always figured if you're going to play this then you may as well just play Top Gear on SNES or Outrun on Mega Drive and enjoy yourself instead. I had no idea about the two-player super scope thing tho, that's actually pretty impressive.
I played this game as a kid, and it is now part of my rebuild collection... and I had no idea about the mouse and the super scope... and since I have the mouse I might try using it with this some time....
On the one stage it appears that you’re driving towards like 8 different cities- all on the horizon and all separated by a bit of distance- they’re all around you and you’re always the same distance from all of them- you never reach any one. Maybe you are inside this enormous ring city.
Whoa... ya got me. Never played or even saw it. I loved Top Gear and this kind of looks like a sequel to that (I mean outside of TG2 and 3000). I'm going to try and find this! Thanks SnesDrunk.
One of the funniest things was to get the police to chase you and then turn it into a Hollywood style chase scene, it was even funnier when you had your car on higher levels (gears, NOs, speed etc)
Okay, that "hidden gamemode" with the gun is really freaking hilarious! Hey, how about a video about other games that feature like "unexpected gamemodes"?
Wow, I had no idea this game was compatible with the Super Scope and mouse. Granted, I would have had no way to make use of that functionality since I never had those accessories but still neat to learn all these years later.
I remember seeing this on shelves at the rental stores, never rented it, the whole thing just looked like Top Gear. Guess most people thought the same, can't remember anyone having this game back then. Still, interesting that the game had all those extras with the mouse and scope support.
I like these kinds of racers. Reminds me of a truck racer on Sega. Could upgrade your engine and other performance parts, tires, think you had a few defensive mechanisms. Kinda k me Combat Cars but not so much combat.
I think I remember seeing this game at a video rental place as a kid, but I always passed it up as it just looked like a generic racing game from the box. I guess I shouldn't have judged a game by its cover. It really seems like quite the ambitious SNES racer. The whole betting, car upgrading and police chases at least adds some additional depth. I don't remember many other racing games in the early 90's having many more options than pick your vehicle, pick your track...and race! This game definitely seems like it was ahead of its time with its features. It is almost like an early Need For Speed! 😅
Gameplay reminds me a lot of Lotus III (Lotus II Recs on Genesis) but with extra bells and whistles. If you haven’t played it, I’d recommend it. It might remind you too much of other racers if it’s time but it’s got one of the best soundtracks of all time.
