I realized I forgot to talk about the limited experience in this set which I thought was very good overall a couple of comments on that: -Very few unplayable card/leader in limited which is great. -On another problem with Boba is that his power level really hurt the draft/sealed experience, a common leader that is quite a bit stronger that the other and doesn't require any build-around is not something you want in your limited format. -I didn't mention Jyn as a missed opportunity, because even though she was not played in constructed she was a force to be reckoned with in limited. Some types of abilities simply don't work well in constructed but are great in limited, she has one of those abilities and that's ok.
I actually really liked the art. You have to keep in mind EVERY OTHER star wars ccg used movie stills. The cartoon art was refreshing and imaginative. It did suck that the set evolved into the fett show but there were other decks to play.
Love your videos most of all! Watch literally every one of them haha. You deserve higher mic sound quality! 💪 If you like the headset thing, you should check out any Sennheiser headset, their Mic quality is insane. Alternatively, Yeti mics have very good sound quality for the price. I think it would do a ton for production value! Keep up the great work, eyes peeled for your SOTG deck videos
My main issue with the set is that it was Legendary heavy. No matter what aspect combination you want to play, you need the legendaries to be competitive. However, the failure to print enough product means that you cannot get the cards from boosters and the secondary market prices are nuts. If you are playing an affordable deck, it becomes very hard to compete if your opponents draws their legendaries
There were a few good decks that didn't run any legendaries (or few) and could compete with anything, but overall I agree and this is what I mentioned in the video that legendaries were very exciting but at the same time made the set expensive.
I agree with a lot of these points, but I totally love the crazy oddball art. Bamboozle is just memorable. The problem now, is that SoR was such a high bar, and SHD is not a great second set. Leaders with zero support, or just complete junk abilities, barely any synergy cards for the leaders from set 1 that needed them. Ordinary (and some useless) Legendaries. All sorts of strange power creep (i.e. breaking the established rules of double aspect > single aspect). I could go on. I'm sure it will be "fine" but given this was developed at the same time as Set 1, it feels way less polished than Set 1.
For a cause I believe in was the only thing that helped keep hero aggro at a tier 1. As much as you may have hated it, it was the only thing that could beat hard control if they had no units on the board.
As I said in the video, I am fully aware that some sort of direct damage is needed to make aggro work, I just strongly dislike the way it was implemented.
Great review and I agree with pretty much everything you said. I think you mentioned Lorcana in your review. As a point of reference, how would you compare the rating you gave vs the first set for other TCGs you’ve played?
I would give Lorcana rating a 3/10 its vertue was that it was very accessible. On the other hand the meta that resulted from it was awful, the thematic of each color was quite obscure, the theme of the set was non existent, too many unplayable cards and a rather small set lead to very restricted options, too many duplicated cards in different colors, too many vanilla cards. I actually liked the game quite a bit but the set 1 was soo bad I didn't spend a penny on the game after playing it on pixelborn.
Fully agree with your video. Arts consistency is the main problem for now (could have been worse!). For the set 2 I already expect lower rating as many of the new leaders seems to be hardly playable" in limited/premier leading to a less diversified meta finally
Love the game, love your content and I’m looking forward to set two. Thanks again. Just wondering if you know or what your opinion is on a ban list? Do you think we’ll get one eventually or will it be more like set rotation?
@@WelshJesus Thanks man, set rotation has been confirmed. Ban list is also very likely at some point if need be. So far the game has not been needing of a ban list, but I think it's only a matter of time.
The clock is ticking, will the classic 2,5 year rule swallow another game or can this tcg move forward. I hope they introduce nerfed prints of current cards. Yugioh Speed Duels did the same thing when their leaders were too OP
If I can play this game for 2 more years, it will be 2,5 years well spent. I far prefer to play a game I prefer even if it only last for a couple of years, than playing worse game that I know will last forever. Life is too short to only be playing one game forever anyway, people think too much in terms of "investment" the real question is "are you having fun, are you finding people to play with?" if the answer is yes just dive into it and have a blast!
The biggest negative for me is how bad some of the art is. Everything with Han Solo on it looks terrible (and it continues into set 2). Why do they hate Han Solo?
I will say protector is a bad example, I still say protector is one of the best double aspect cards, I think Bendu would have proved your point better.
Protector is not bad card at all but it's situational. In my opinion and from a design stand point double aspect card (at least in set 1) should not be that situational because being a double aspect already restricts you a lot on where you can be played.

IMO Spark of Rebellion was one of the best, if not the best, Set 1s of any TCG I've ever played
I love the art. I know its polarizing, but I really enjoy the diversity of artistic interpretation of iconic Star Wars moments and characters.
Exactement ce que je cherchais ! Une vidéo qui fait un bilan complet du set1 avant passage au set2. Merci pour le taf.

"was I a good set?".... No... I am told you were a great set.
Great video, great set 1! :] SO much looking forward to set 2!
I love "For a Cause." What are you talking about?
+10000 on For a Cause
One of the best launch sets ever.

i will never not see rolls of toilet paper in Devotion.

I do agree some art can be way better, art should be consistent like Darth Vader First Commander unit, I think thats good to go by.
my son built a fun Hera/Luke twin suns deck... it slays!

Possible we will see!
Finally someone saying what needs to be said about for a cause I believe in. I completely agree with you!
Set 1 for the win for sure

Amazing 1 set meta.
Solid video!
Lie! Deception! No way you could watch the video in 2 minutes 🤣
