You just knew him on Super right? He was never like that on Z or the first series. Yes, he did like a good fight and strong opponents but he fought to protect not to amuse himself, that is... until Super... and he was just naive, not dumb. For me the humor on Super was a big letdown, I wanted to see more of the first DB series on this, unfortunately, Toriyama was not how he used to be and Toyotaro was too involved in the story at this point. So I consider Super a nice spin-off.

Weirdly enough it’s not that crazy honestly everything he has done has been for his people and heritage, so the moment he made his own family they became priority.
It’s 100% in his character, even from the start. Vegeta has always been about the Sayian race. Plus his child will surpass him and Goku and live on the rivalry honestly.

Proof Goku is aromantic. He doesn’t have even the slightest clue how the birth of a child can be a sentimental thing that someone might not want to miss out on or why a wife might be upset at their husband if said husband isn’t present.
I wouldn’t say aro, he has shown love and care for chi chi, in a romantic sense as well (though this was OG dragon ball).

To tie back to goku, Goku has never once shown any sign of any romantic attraction to anyone, not even Milk. He married her because he promised to, they have a family together, and he cares for her, but he doesn’t show any drive to behave in romantic ways. He’s never kissed her, he doesn’t take her on dates or pick up presents for her, or anything like that. Toriyama (May he rest in peace) once stated that all saiyans except for the royalty actually share a common trait of not having strong emotional attachments to people beyond camaraderie, and that Goku isn’t an exception to that. In his mind, his family are just especially close friends that he has extra obligations to due to being married/related to. Textbook aromantic.
But like I said, aro people can care deeply for people. They can even love. People on the aro spectrum just feel reduced/no romantic attraction. Completely different thing that takes a lot of time to process sometimes. And again, as someone who is on the aro spec myself, I’m extremely familiar with that.
This is why I'm a fan of Vegeta. His character development has come a very long way over the years imo. 🥰🤗
