- This is the story about the lost and hidden gold mine that old Foster use to work. Old Foster never told anyone about the where abouts of this hidden mine although numerous people had seen the gold. Treasure hunters have hunted for years trying to find this hidden gold mine that is somewhere along the San Juan river on Vancouver Island.

So many people have looked for this, never found. Doesn't mean it's not still there. I have trekked along this river several times looking for mines and caves.
Hey thanks for watching. Never made there. Closest I've gotten is the Oyster River by Campbell River.
@oldlostminer The Oyster is a beautiful river👌
I use to hunt up there , meet an older protester once told me about his cabin on the river. Stopped in for coffee
It's always interesting when you are out in the woods far away. You think you're alone but you're not. I've met more people in the middle of nowhere than I care to remember.
Thanks for watching. New video every Saturday. Interesting one coming out tomorrow.
Old Foster sounds like a true mystery. I wonder if anyone will ever find that hidden gold mine?
I've been on Vancouver Island many times. My wife grew up there. It's heavy timber and rugged terrain. Actually you could call it rain forest. Lots of growth and it grows quite fast. Thanks for watching. New video every Saturday.
The story of the Spanish at San Juan river is a legend. It shows up in newspapers back in the 1920's and 1930's time frame. It's been retold over the years by various newspaper contributors like TW Patterson. It is a legend as the early version says it is in the article. Don't get me wrong It's a cool story. TW changed the legend a bit compared to the original. The real life Santiago ship was operated by Juan Perez in 1774, he was supposed to go up to Alaska, to see if Russians were infringing on Spains territory, but instead turned back at Haida Gwaii, he traded with natives at Nootka. He had to cut his anchor line as his ship was heading towards rocks, his anchor is most likely still there. The Santiago sailed back to San Blas, Mexico. TW also wrote about outlaw Rattlesnake Dick leaving buried gold at Leechtown. Then in a later article says he didn't. Authors do change their mind or position at times, but always do your own research before trecking out into the bush for a fools errand.
Great information! Thanks for commenting and for watching. Speaking of Rattlesnake Dick, I just put out a video a few weeks back that mentioned him during the California gold rush. That video is here: ruclips.net/video/1smQVxHq_hs/видео.html
Thanks again. New video every Saturday.
Lik ethe Monashees in the Vernon, BC area and Sugar Lake the possibiity of finding a huge cache is there, but the land works against you: it's some of the roughtest, well couvered forest in N.. America. the island isn't known for gold, though. that ledge just might be a one off, and finding it more luck that skill These 1800's prospectors were ver good: if it was there they'd have found it.
They use to mine the Oyster River just outside of Campbell River. Zeballos had the Privateer Mine which was a pretty rich gold mine also. Myra Falls Mine is/was pretty rich. Thanks for watching. Comments and views are always appreciated.

Good story Gregg but why not tell it all...about the native girl kidnapped from pt renfrew by the cowichan
and how she spent 2 years hostage in the cowichan village only to be befriended by an old woman who taught the girl a "song" which would if followed get her home to pt renfrew by land...and she escaped and did get back to her village but on the way found the ledge Foster kept going back to....Foster had seen the village children playing with the "pretty yellow stones" (given to them by the girl when she got home) when he first visited and that is what got him returning so many times....
Well to be honest .... I've never heard about that part of the story. I'll have to look into it I guess. Do more searching.
