The tree was 140 years old when it was cut down. That does not give you a time frame of when they cut the tree down. If they cut it down in 1870 or 1970, the tree would still be 140 years old when it was cut down.
They used to clearcut all trees. So yes it gives you an idea when the area was last clearcut (more then 140 years prior to that tree starting to grow).

I hate to say it, but would it be worth it after you guys have "Fixed" the problem, would it be worth running his tailings back through the plant? I always hear how, "The Old Guys" have missed a Lot of gold so somebody goes back through their tailngs. Well i sure hope that in this day and age that somebody 50 yrs from now says the same thing.

They do at the end of the season. You get a video from all of the operations and a separate dialog on the job itself with the unseen footage.

Trees decompose when they are cut down.
