    I saw an exhibition of Dutch flower painting at the Met years ago. The whole genre and its artists were unknown to me. All the pictures were quite similar in composition and all were technically excellent.
    But then I was struck by ONE picture that stood out from the others from across the gallery. It was like hi def compared to low def. The painter? Rachel Ruysch. And ALL her paintings displayed this clear superiority.
    Amazing.

    When I was in Amsterdam I saw some Still Life paintings in the Rijk Museum that were simply astounding.

    Great story. Of course if you are an artist raised in a rich/educated family it makes it much easier to sell your stuff to friends, etc. than if you are an artist from a more humble background.

    Don't forget to mention her sister Anna who also shared the same technique and skills in this genre.

      I am now restoring one of her earlier works, her color blends are similar to those of Rembrandt.

    Wonderful work if only i could see it for long enough to absorb. The perpetusl jumping about all the time spoilt an otherwise presentation full of interest.

    I'm sure she had nannies and servants, but still, amazing.

      Yes, the editing is very detrimental to the content.

      Everything about this production (other than the lecturer) is terrible. The editing and the music are incredibly distracting and intrusive.

    • @rudiverhoeven1670

      I totally agree! I cannot think of a worse way to present VISUAL art which is based purely on concentrated, un-interrupted observation which requires enough time to absorb what is seen without any distractions. The viewer is shown moving snippets of the paintings while being denied real access to the ART with maddening manipulation of fleeting, split second images. Then, as if that was not enough, more agitation is added on top with HEARING restless drum riffs and what not! I did not manage to watch it all, half way through I had to quit.

    It's nauseating to have you inject feminist issues in a time when the words did not even exist. You should keep your speculations to your self.

      Yes and no. She spent many years of her life pregnant or with a nursing baby. Did she attend to the kids before painting or just ignore them altogether?

    are you honestly trying to compare her work with Rembrandt's?

    • @moi1310
      @moi1310 5 лет назад +20

      She compares their respective "success" at their time. What you think of their artworks is subjective.

      She is saying that she outsold rembrandt.

    • @c0ronariu5
      @c0ronariu5 5 лет назад +6

      No, it was just a benchmark of how much she made for each painting. There is absolutely no comment on her art versus rembrandts

      @@juliamorganscott9384 I have in my possession one of her oldest pieces that I am currently restoring, it will take a year at least to complete, every stroke has great definition.
